These Topwater Canal Strikes Are Insane! BFS Style!

This session was all about topwater fishing! My first topwater session of the year. The aim was to hopefully catch a canal chub or two and obviously expecting some pike action too! I was using small frogs in the chub swims and larger frogs with wire leader in the more pike dominated areas. It started off tricky, I couldn't seem to nail the hookset with the light bfs setup at first. After thinking about how to change my approach I decided to just reel into the fish as they took the bait and not strike at all! It ended up being the turning point in the session and took my hook-up rate from 0 to 100%. Hope you enjoy!

What does BFS mean, can someone tell me please. I know that LMBA are obviously paying you very well for advertising their products but there are many other makers of similar equipment. I've got an almost identical setup that I've used successfully for years, it cost me a fraction of that LMBA one you're using, I checked its price.

Your canals are so clear, where I live they are so coloured you have about 6 inches of visibility then my lure is out of sight. But once again Chris a cracking video as usual.

Same here mate, guess your playing for norf fc , were the canala are drinking chocolate coloured, only remedy is vibration , those small glass vials with small steel reattles work well on soft plazzies, or wopper plopper for surface fishing for pike, small vib lures work well on the perch so there is workarounds, things that i have no answer too is my canal is featureless, the odd bridge or moored up barge is the only structures likely to hold perch 👍

15 years ago I was addicted to fishing and a tackle junkie I put it aside and had 3 awesome kids free time is starting to be a thing again now back then I tried to find frog loors after seeing pike smash real frog's

I would love to see more topwater and more bfs fishing. Two approaches that I really enjoy. What I have found with weedless topwaters like those frogs is to wait after the strike until you feel the weight of the fish, and then set (at least for bass)

@@WillyEckaslike Bait finesse. It's light lures on baitcasters usually 0.5-5g is considered bfs - some others would say lighter or heavier but it primarily originates from Japan i believe.

"Set your hook like youre going to break your rod" yeah I laugh when I see people top water bass fishing in America and setting the hook like this for a 2 pound fish when a snap of the wrist will set the hook just as well.

I do know that there are no free stretches of canal, according to the C&R trust I’ve found stretches of river that don’t appear to have any club affiliation, but it’s all on private land. Maybe a video on how to find free stretches in your local area? Finding water is easy, but not always who it belongs to.
