A little tip from me which works for me is, when you see the fish coming towards you just let the bait rest for 1-2 seconds then start reeling again agressively, might work, try it out ;)

Precisely what I was thinking, they're not giving the fish chance to strike, just ripping the bait away as soon as the see the fish. Pike will really hit and chomp their prey hard, but you have to let them!

That's been my experience with top water, they miss the bait about 80 % of the time with a good lure. Add that with a lure that has a poor hook-up percentage like the duck, and you're in for a very frustrating day. Because of how a Pikes eyes are located on the top of their head, once they open their mouth to take a top water lure, they can no longer see the bait. When I'm having bites on a top water bait, but can't hook up I switch to a sub surface or wake bait.
