Switching “Become a Helldiver” to the last part of the video and the emphasize on “a Helldiver” left such a strong impression that I had to buy the game as soon as I saw the ad back in March.

for me it was the eyebrow raise at the "... and the courage..." and the "Join the helldivers." afterwards. I bought it seconds after that. Did not regret it and I feel a need to speak in synchro with the intro whenever I hear it, like you would sing along some catchy pop song.

I think a big part of it is the difference in showing versus telling. You’ll notice in the HD1 trailer there’s constantly dialogue to explain what’s going on. The HD2 trailer takes a much more cinematic approach, by taking its time and letting the audience look more than hear more. That’s the kind of thing blockbuster studios use for storytelling and it works well here, since in essence Helldivers is supposed to be the playable version of Starship Troopers. It also serves as a great introduction to Wilbert Roget’s score playing in the background, and if you think back to some of the best scenes in films, you’ll also notice this- the dialogue is minimal, allowing the music to carry it. There’s a saying in film: 95% of a film is audio. And while the improved and cut monologue definitely helps, I’d say it’s only a small fraction. Also, your cat should enlist as a therapy pet(Command knows how much we need those).

It’s something I love about the game in general. For the most part, Super Earth and the colonies are actually decent places to live. And it actually is a democracy, it’s just that all of the leaders elected with that democracy are Warhammer 40K level zealots who will kill anyone who even slightly disagrees with that philosophy.

@@8bitminer the bugs used to be very friendly and peaceful, lacking the means to defend themselves when we invaded their planets and started rending them down for space oil, so they are pretty much the good guys the cyborgs in the first game where a rebel group, they where cyborgs because they where mostly miners who where working dangerous jobs, they declared independence and super earth declared war, the automatons are very obviously the logical extreme of this, they have augmented themselves into fully robotic bodies which is a mean aesthetic but they seem to sing songs for morale, and if they are singing for morale it probably means they aren't unwilling participants in the war, being cyberpunk communists isn't inherently evil though the illuminate were also peaceful right up until super earth declared war on them so they could steal their technology on the pretext that the illuminate have WMDs and it looks a whole lot like we have driven them from their homeworlds super earth is 3/3 for being the aggressor

Then it did its job. It's supposed to be satirical propaganda to lure in the indoctrinated masses. If the actual gamers take it at face value, that only proves the point of the satire. They get a game where they get to murder thousands of bots and bugs and squids and feel good about it. Only stick-up-the-ass people lose out and that's because they take everything way too seriously, so they get what they get.
