I have always restricted from speaking about my late brother Patrick. He passed away on 13 jul 2024. I tried my best to reconcile him with my dad the night before he passed away ie 12th jul😥 To no avail he couldn't even respond to dad on that night, Now I'm always tormented in thought... I've been praying for his soul, though I'm not perfect as sister m. This has taught me something.

There are people praying for souls in purgatory, and I am one of them. Have you heard of the St. Gertrude, the Great Prayer? If prayed devoutly, 1k souls are released from purgatory and if you recite the chaplet, even more souls are released. "...Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen..."

Sorry to hear. Maybe just try to offer masses up for him at least yearly. The Divine Mercy Chaplet is what God recommended to St. Faustina of Poland for people on their death bed but if they can't say the Chaplet themselves because unconscious ect, then the Priest or Nun from the local Parish or Hospital chapel is meant to say it over them to give them extra Graces, so they can at least get into Purgatory. 🙏🙏🙏

Luke 16. 19-31 Here Jesus explains purgatory almost as perfectly as this message. All the elements of this message are contained in Luke 16:19-31 Remember - the religious sisters were not blood related, but related as friends in the religious life - like the Rich man and Lazarus were 'friends' in their spiritual life on earth. How Great indeed is God's Mercy.

@DebbieRennie The existence of Purgatory (that is a place of trial, testing, proofing, purgation) is a matter of justice, and as such, can be known and is testified to by 1.) reason 2.) natural revelation 3.) natural theology. It is a belief that predates the writing of the scriptures. Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, Sensus Fidelium, the unanimous teaching of the Church Fathers, and the Magisterium of the Church all further bear witness to the reality of Purgatory and further delineate more precisely what it is and what it is not. Belief in Purgatory isn't per say a matter of faith , though the mechanics (ie how grace functions) of it are. Rather, Christians teach about Purgatory in much the same way that we teach that the earth is round -- it is a matter of fact of the created universe. I am sure that you can look up bible verses as well as I can, but I would start with 2 Macc. 12:43-45. Why this verse? Because denying 2 Macc. entails you denying the the Holy Spirit ,who is the author of Sacred Scripture, while accepting it breaks you free from the man made notion of sola scriptura.
