In 2015, Inside Edition reported on a girl who couldn’t stop sneezing. Katelyn Thornley lived outside of Houston, and was sneezing over 12,000 times a day. She even had trouble completing a sentence without starting to sneeze. The uncontrollable laughing that Joaquin Phoenix’s character experienced in “Joker” is a real thing, too. It’s an effect of a condition known as pseudobulbar affect, or PBA. #InsideEdition

I had the uncombable hair syndrome. Although they didn't know that is what it was back then. I had white powder puff hair. We grew up in farmland and my mom talked about actually losing me in a cotton field one day. They found me, because when I turned my head they saw the bushy side sticking up. Yes, my hair was more tameable on one side and the other was like a wild animal. My mom thought my hair was an indication of my health as I was also a very sickly child. I grew out of mine mostly by the time I was 8 though. It didn't last through puberty thank goodness. When it started changing its shape it also changed color. It went from white to strawberry blond. And then even more red when I got to be a teenager.

I knew someone in middle school with aquagenic urticaria. Nobody believed him even after teachers explained. He sat out in football games when rained. And it was really sad seeing how people could deny his condition by sayings things like “how can you be allergic to water. You’re made of water. You’re a liar” etc. People aren’t obligated to tell you what’s “wrong” with them. Nor does anyone owe another person an explanation of their condition.
