Hey Tony! as someone who has worked as an editor for 10+ years and seen a ton of these exploitative bs offers, I really appreciate what you're doing. Thank you so much for championing editors (and other creatives, this isn't exclusive to us)

Awesome digest Tony! I can feel the pain you experienced while filming this video😁 Reading all those "job offers" is tough, I receive similar stuff at least a few times per week too. Your advice is great for beginners, at least they will know what to expect and what to instantly ignore. Next time, don't stop yourself from swearing while reading all those examples!

honestly seeing these posts just i would rather make my own post saying something like "i work for free. i edit videos at a length of 4 mins tops. i have flexible work hours and the delivery time for one video is 1 month. dont like it? go scam someone else"

I'd look on Twitter, Facebook, Upwork (although I have zero experience in it) and lastly make your own content. Continually brushing up your skills is more beneficial than anything.

@TonyStoodios I can tell that Upwork is worth trying because people who post jobs there are already interested in finding video editors. I started on Upwork last year and figured out how to land consistent jobs and work with awesome people. But what I've seen in the first year on Upwork is very similar to the topic of your video. 80% of "clients" have no idea how video editing works, how much time and skill it requires, and what the fair pay rate should be. "Lastly, make your own content" - is something I would recommend to start from😉. This will help to improve your video editing skills and add one more finished video to your portfolio. “If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around there two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut” - Stephen King. So watch videos you enjoy and edit using techniques you liked and observed from others!

I can't edit very well myself mostly because i can't get the motivation to do it so i'm looking into getting a editor and im not sure how much to offer. It's mostly nice little touches like subtitles, effects, some keyframing on some things if i specify that i need emphasis on it but it may become more common but i will probably experiment with it a little. I dont think i will ask for any revisions because any editing that's better than mine will be good and I'll be open to any ideas my editor has to make the video entertaining. the more basic editing like combing through footage, adding the voiceover, the end screen and screenshots on screen will be done by me so how much should i offer for 1 hour of footage generally? I only wan to make 1 video a month for now and make more in the future. i do want to offer a good pay but i can only go up to about $200 tops

Pay per video is a joke. The sad thing is the worst paid gigs often times comes with the most delusional egotistical psychos running the show lol.
