Hi Teoh! Thanks for sharing your interesting paint story.. I actually admire you that you always seem to focus on *using up your supplies instead of accumulating a ton of art supplies* that is the vibe I often get when watching some other art youtubers. I want to be inspired to make more art and improve my skills, not to just buy and collect endless amount of art supplies. If we love art supplies, we should strive to use them more and more not let them sit on the cupboard untouched. Also the fact that you gave most of your reviewed stuff and books away to people. Such an inspiring person you are Teoh. Please keep up that spirit and keep up the good work!

Thanks. It would be cool to have lots of supplies to test, but I don't have space to store them 😂

I play with a lot of florals, so I use up reds more quickly. I'd say Phalo Blue will last forever for me, too. And Pthalo green. I barely use the green, and favor cerulean and ultramarine for blues.

amazingly they do last for ages XD

I love the doodle date videos where they try antique watercolors.

I think I'm exactly the opposite. I usually find it hard to finish the greens and the blues as my style is more of a pink-ish/ sunset illustrations and flowers so I use pink and violet / red quite often. This was an interesting video, made me rethink and I think I will actually buy the 15ml tubes from now on when they're available as they can last longer. Love your videos! Keep up the good work!

I quite agree that those mentioned colours are quite high in their tinting strength which gives them fantastic mileage.

The way u swatch looks so free flowing, it’s very satisfying to watch. I personally also use ultramarine way more than pthalo blue. Since I have pthalo green I don’t even really need pthalo blue for greens. Occasionally I use it for a teal but I normally pant plants and flowers so I don’t find myself mixing teal often. As for the quinacridone magenta I love it! I use it a lot since I like to sketch flowers haha

Phthalo blue GS is my current blue and quin crimson is my current red in my limited pallet for acrylic from liquitex

Hi Teoh, you paint always looks so juicy when you swatch them 😊 I love the colour combination you can get from them. My most used colours are quin magenta, Payne's gray, ultramarine, pyrrol red, lemon and sap green. Thanks for sharing this video 😁

Aureolin is the colour i whizz through. I do not paint a lot of landscapes as i need to find interest in subject. So something man made or that has people in. So what it is you mostly paint will determine your colour choices. And you dont have to paint colours as they are as your the creator of you art.😁

All of these are staples in my pallet. I think they last a while because the colors are so consentrated. I buy a tube a year of these colors.I have never had a tube last 5 years!😍 (I do more florals and landscapes.) I go through french ultramarine the most. I use by itself as well as mixes alot. I love all the quinechrodones!on another note, I am thinking of adding Moonstone from DS. Have you ever used it?
@sunflorii6 жыл бұрын
I recently got moonglow in addition to the primaries, since seeing Paul (from teohs videos) use them on his Instagram lol. It's beautiful!
@melissabridge56876 жыл бұрын
@@sunflorii yes i think it is beautiful too. FOLLOWING the White Rabbit channel ... she uses moon stone A LOT. Uses it for shadow. She uses it where you would think gray or shade would be. Ads sooooo much life to painting.

Which sketchbook did you use here
@lollisim6 жыл бұрын
off topic but did you figure out why your paper had started to repel your paint? It started happening for me too in a sketchbook I use all the time and I have no idea why, I think it could be my brush cleaner
@leodoz10166 жыл бұрын
might be from the dirt or oils from your hand or being exposed too much sticking into the paper and repeling it. Had some old papers do this to me trying to paint on them after leaving them out for a couple of weeks. That's my experience, not his
@lollisim6 жыл бұрын
oils from my hands was exactly what I thought as it shows up like finger prints so was very careful to not touch fresh pages but still see it happening sometimes, not a huge issue if you work the area a bit it does seem to go in most cases but it's just odd as it's my field sketchbook and it can end up with all sorts on it and have never seen it before. Thanks for the reply, maybe it is something to do with a combination of how old they are and oils

I haven't used up any colors yet because I've only recently started, but you inspire me to be unafraid of using my paints! You're also the reason I've decided to use Daniel Smith over other brands. They're so much more vibrant and last so long, I'll probably have them for years!

These are very good quality paints, and seem to last a very long time. I do like how the darker colors can be used for the shadow effects for painting trees and buildings depending where the light falls. lots can be accomplished. I like the saturation when mixing these colors especially the darker colors.

I have so much trouble with phthalo green and blue! I keep them on my palette because you and others recommend them so highly, but I find them acidic, too cool and too unrealistic. I wish I liked them better, especially since so many others highly recommend them!

I like Phthalo colours but I don't use them as much. Yeah, they are too vibrant and unreal 😂

I was to eager to get a Pthalo Green, and now that I have it I rarely use it. You show in your book how you don’t use these high-staining colors. Do you have any tips on subject matter that would use them? I also intend to use neutral colors (Payne’s Grey) and end up not doing so.
@teohyc6 жыл бұрын
High staining colours are very striking and bold, good if you want impact, something to stand out. They are not easy to use that's why I don't use them much.

Mix it with quin red to get a beautiful deep maroon. The red shines through and makes a gorgeous color you can't buy.

Teoh Yi Chie What colors would you recommend someone new to watercolor get for a limited palette? I'm currently trying to decide what colors to select after I make more of a dent in my student tubes. ^_^
@atelieradela6 жыл бұрын
I tend to horde watercolors instead of using them. I have not used up any watercolors jet, but my one of my Schminke watercolor pans has a rather big hole in the pan, I have been searching and mixing the color a few times. Cant remember the name of the color on the top of my head but it was a reddish pink.
