Those lenses are definitely interesting at a good price, and as you already mentioned, they only come in E-Mount, which seems to be a trend on a lot of recent cine lens releases. I do understand that the majority of creators prefer it, but for someone like myself who shoots on EF-mount cameras like the Blackmagic and Red, it's really a shame. By the way, I love your videos!

Those lenses are M-mount native, and were adapted to E-mount, it is easy to adapt M-mount to E-mount because of flange length of E mount is shorter than flange length of M mount. For EF it is impossible to adapt this lenses, because flange length is longer, not shorter. To be adaptable to EF, lenses must be designed for longer flange length in the first place, and it is very difficult to make compact lenses for long flanges.

why would they make this in a phased out mount? There is an L version for BM. There will be an RF mount eventually - however take that up with cannon the fact that you can go ef->rf only.

To me this lenses are beautiful - I think they strike a very good balance between acceptable character and required performance standards. Especially at their price point, it is almost cognitive dissonance because they punch so far above their price it makes me uncomfortable. I remember when the sp3s came out because of the branding and price I wanted them to be amazing and was totally underwhelmed and had cognitive dissonance the opposite way. Most of the complaints I see are people mad they don't have them in the mount they use - which is a good problem to have.

As a summilux facsimile it’s always disappointing to me when cheaper lens manufacturers try to copy the name of the lens they are “inspired” by. It screams cheap copy where as it would be much more authentic and trustworthy if lenses simply set out to do a job and they described the intention not the aspiration.

Leitz cinema lenses are very expensive, and not very popular with cinematographers. They are so well corrected for distortion, that the images look flat. As for a lens making digital capture look like film? Never gonna happen. Cinema lenses won’t even make your movie look like a movie. A good lens is simply … a good lens. Cinema lenses are no different than lenses for still cameras.

Actually you are pronouncing Thypoch much better than a lot of other reviewers. The ‘Th’ is like a soft T sound. Somewhere between T and D. Although I did hear one Chinese reviewer pronounce it almost like a Z or ‘Dz’ sound recently and that kind of messed with my head. The important thing is that it is not “thigh-pouch”. 😂

Great lens, great video, just imo though, it looks nothing like film. It looks like just regular modern day digital footage. The softness just comes from being shot wide open. I guarantee when you stop it down it'll look just a crisp and as sharp as any other lens. BUT....... still a great looking lens hands down!

Nice video, but pronouncing Leitz like litz is really annoying. How can you talk so much about a company without knowing how to pronounce its name? That's like talking on and on about Porsche, while calling it a porch. It just grates on the nerves to hear people horribly mispronounce words. Famous names in particular. Even more so when they speak as experts. In German words, ei is pronounced like eye. Always. If you can properly pronounce Leica, which you do, then you should be able to properly pronounce Leitz. Great video though.

Manual focus cameras are cheap and super sharp. Unfortunately they are impractical and generally suck since you always need to wrestle with their inconveniences.

not everyone wants AF lenses - if u want AF buy sony glass - manual focus are made for long focus rotation and organic focus feel - letting shots go out and come in to focus / finding ur focus - problem with AF lenses is nowadays everything is always in focus all the time - AF has become a game changer but its nice to shoot manual focus on shoots you want a more organic feel

Yes, they do have more people on set, but personally as a one person shooter who has used both AUtoFocus and Manual focus, I have found manual focus to be the more convenient one as you don’t have to tap the screen to focus and you can keep your hands on the grip and the lens. Not only that but there’s no pulsing and other quirks that come with AutoFocus.

I have a set and absolutely adore them, but for people that have yet to build up their own sets, they're going to have to deal with up the prices increasing to find good ones, especially with the wider focal lengths. It's a journey itself to actually to get yourself a complete set. You may also need to de-click the aperature and add focus gears if you're using follow focus, which is another barrier.
