Those large windows are a great compliment to the high celings and low floors. Having all that shelf space provided by the bookcases gives you more than ample space for generalized clutter. So basically, you have transformed the space from a junk drawer to a great room. Well done.

Nothing like free natural light .. looks like a great improvement and balance to that wall…I see Donovan likes the Milwaukee nailer I switched all my trucks to Milwaukee nailers I kept a couple of DeWalts for back up and sold the rest and the caulk gun is a great add as well

I know what's fun. Take a perfectly good house, tear it apart and rebuild it. And make sure you do it in the middle of winter. Other than that, nice job Donovan.... and Matt. Donavan sure is a patient fellow. That room is definitely going to be a much brighter one. Tho pulling out those bookcases made me groan. I'm a bit of a book collector myself. I'd have had them stacked full and organized like a pro librarian. My Wife thinks I'm insane on that subject.

I don’t recall ever seeing LVL material used as studs before, but they look much stronger than typical 2x4/2x6’s would be. The new windows really help to brighten up the whole space and actually make it look larger too.

Yes... Have to reuse them somewhere. It's $500 in wood alone for each bookshelf! I'd even suggest using the two originally on the window wall to move them to the side walls... But I'm guessing Lindsey has the final say in that.

I agree with Linsey, bookcases are outdate, well until a solar storm destroys the internet or a nuclear war does. This is a marked improvement on the design, and gives you added light for the room, plus you can watch those occasion twister head your way. I always enjoy your shows, from the sawmill, to the woodworking, to the building with Donovan.

Nice job, looks wonderful. Here in Finland, Europe they use screws on bottom of the windows and doors and sfuff to level the bottom. Just put two screws at bottom, perfectly level, then place the object at hand on top of them, and sprayfoam the hell out of that gap.

you guys got all the fancy tools. I remember doing that work with homemade pump jacks made from 2x4s scabbed together. Most work done with just a hammer, nails, and a skilsaw that was corded.

Interesting ... I tuned out of an unequal boxing match because I didn't want to watch the de-structuring of a human being, and I tune in here to watch the de-structuring of a house! At least you guys are going to put it back together again! Edit: Looks great! And the video montage or whatever is an art you're accomplished in, nice angles, light, inside / outside shots, editing (I've never done a video, but if I ever do, yours are a good model).

Another great video. From time to time you two (Matt and Donovan) remind me of Laurel and Hardy. I really enjoy the process, and I appreciate that you show the many difficulties that occur (just what are you going to do about the bad weatherstripping on the first window?). The yew or juniper that you squished with the big chunk of framing is no great loss. You can do much better landscaping than that.
