For anyone coming here, my big mistake was not understanding these terms; insert, pocket, replacement, and full-tear out, new construction, and what they mean, and how they are significant. The discussions around windows all center around wood or vinyl…etc. So anyway, what they fail to tell is, some windows only come in “new construction.” If you choose to do “inserts” and the other windows are “new construction only” the ORIGINAL PROPORTIONS will be thrown off, which is important especially for the front of your home. Nobody tells you this, Nobody cares, but it changes what an architect might have already carefully organized. Architecture is an important consideration, because as they say “the windows are the eyes to your homes soul.” ❤

Hi Jeff, GREAT video. A while ago I had a number of window companies come out to give me quotes, but when they ask their "closing" questions during the demonstration, I told them I wouldn't be buying tonight because I already have another one or two window companies scheduled to come out (even when it got down to the last company) and I want to see what they have to offer before purchasing. Of course, they tell me their window is better, but... When they bring up the "tonight only" price at the end of the demo, I tell them that is a bunch of BS and if I call their company back and they don't honor the "tonight only" price they have lost my business. They do not have to send the salesman back. It doesn't cost them anything for them to send me the contract via email or snail mail and have me sign it and send it back. Unfortunately, I didn't purchase windows previously, but I'm about to start the process again. This time I only need quotes from two or three companies since I am already familiar with their products and just want to get the current price. And I definitely agree... fall in love with the company first. Find one that has a great reputation and stands behind their product and their work!

Great video! Went through this experience with an Anderson rep. Spent 2 and a half hours at the house (for a 90 minute meeting). Gave us a quote of over $50,000 and pressured us (especially my wife). Exact same story with us. All decision makers to be present. Long presentation after a long work day. We were exhausted. Initial quote 57k. Same day buying discount brought it down to 38k. Then he left to get his dinner so we could think about it. We decided not to decide the same day. This guy was a pleasant salesman and left without showing any signs of annoyance. Rehash manager called the next day and got the price further down. So much for the price being valid only for one day. Glad I saw this video.

@@harlemnights4381I think you’re missing the point. People are willing to pay for a job done right… but when people come in at $47k and then end up saying only if you buy today you can have it for $17k, then it’s just dishonest and the tactic is disrespectful. Yes…. The local Anderson Window dealer did most of these tactics. But I had purchased from them years ago when I was flush and knew the owners brother in law so I received what I thought was a good price. This time around I cancelled on the second day after. My windows were around $78k but my today price was 54. After getting approved I mulled over the interest rate (which was low but I hate paying interest these days!) and the term of the loan. Decided to cancel on the second day. Then several calls offering lower prices. I’ll do it myself. I’m handy and have time. Just need to get someone to order the windows!

Thank you Jeff. I justed had Renewal by Anderson and Power Home Remodeling came to my home in New York for windows estimates. My the first estimates from Renewal by Anderson was for $81k for 24 double hung windows. The discounted price was $58k. The Power Home Remodeling estimates was $31,500 for 24 windows. The discounted price was $23k. Like you said, they both gave me a take it now dealing or pay the original quotes. This was a very unbelievable experience. They are worst than a used car Salesperson.

Excellent video! Thank you for saving so many customers from a high pressured sales pitch...it just happened to me yesterday. I had Renewal by Anderson at my house ....with a strong sales pitch....wanted to make sure all home owners/decision maker meet with him. Gave me an estimate of $80k+ for 23 windows. But also said that there will be a factory discount of $20k+ if I signed a contract right away. I too stood firm that I will get estimates from at least 2 additional companies before I sign any contract. So he said the discount will be off and the price is up to $80k+ as soon as he is out the door. I thanked him for coming. I am continuing my research and thats how I found this video. I'll be watching all your videos first.....I am not in the Houston area. Thank you so much !!! I am really puzzled why this company despite the price and sales pressure still ranks number #1 in every search? Any thoughts?

I think I love you Jeff. You described my recent visit from Dreamstyle remodeling to a tee (also). They sell the ProVia line of windows and I was almost talked into loving their windows. Then the numbers, how bad other windows are, and the savings if I buy now etc... Also they offered another veterans discount. So the retail price was $35,229, Promotional price down to $26,421 and with the vet discount down to $25,101. The he called his manager and got the price down to $24,500 today only. Then offered zero percent financing. Then tried to make me feel bad when I wanted to think about it. I insisted on seeing some other houses in the area with these windows. He only had a slider sample and didn't have the double hung sample. After watching your video, I could see that the ProVia window frames ARE much chunkier than I really wanted. Many retro-fit windows you see in the big box stores are even more chunkier. I live in Prescott AZ and I know you are in the Houston area, but you did say that you might be able to help me find a company that won't lead me into those 5 possible buying mistakes. I'm sure that if you know a good company in the Phoenix AZ area, they will drive the 100 miles to show me their window line(s). I don't want to make any of those mistakes. I love your company and love the way you explained this to us. (all KZbinrs) Thank you VERY MUCH!

Sales rep in NY here. You have to learn to not 'over inform.' In doing so....you are giving that prospect ample reason to step back and start doing boat loads of research to confirm your counsel. It's a delicate line that took me a few years to master, but two bits of advice.....talk a LOT less than you do, and LISTEN a whole lot more. Even if you feel you don't speak too much....you do. I guarantee it. Let them ramble. Don't correct them along the way. When they wear themselves out, pause, and offer a recap to their comments. "So, Mrs. Smith, if I understand you correctly, is it fair to say you are AS interested in the beauty of a new window as you are in its energy performance? Have I got that right?" Consolidate and confirm. "Oh, that's good....let me show you window that satisfies both of your primary concerns." That's a method I've managed to hone. It works.

There's no reason why the sales experience can't be an honest and genuine one. High pressure sales is a thing of the past; we now live in the age of information and people are getting wiser against deceptive sales tactics. If people are truly in the market for new windows, you will always make the sale if you work with their needs and budget. The manufacturers that dominate the industry need to put happy sales people and satisfied customers over maximum profits, period. Thanks for the video

Enjoy your videos. Currently am shopping to replace just one window, cause its hard to open. (All are old, 50 plus years aluminum. But I live in mild climate area.) I had a WinDor salesman. He came about 30 minutes late. Seemed irritated. (I'm a happy type) He insisted on measuring all my windows. I asked him if he'd like water, soda, or coffee and some cookies. He suddenly became nice, chatty, and told me about going on vacation and just coming back. He then finished measuring and sat down and said there was no room for negotiation as he was giving me his lowest price. $12,000 for all 11 windows normally. But it would be $9000. I asked what kind of window it was. He said they made their own and it was the right kind for the area. He never answered any questions regarding the energy value. Just they were double paned. And I'd have to take white vinyl. (Which is something I personally do not like.) So I asked what the one window would cost. He stood up, after eating several cookies and having 2 sodas, and said I was wasting his time. That no company would just do one window. And that I'd be charged double if they did. I thanked him for his time and showed him to the door. As he was leaving (he was very obese and struggling to carry his sample bag, which he never opened)he kept mumbling how stupid I was and left. I went back inside, after watching him drive off, and found he had left his wallet on the floor. It was a Sunday, and the company wasn't open, and there was no voice-mail. Anyway, on Monday I called to let him know he had left his wallet at my house. The company informed me that they would let him know. No one ever came to get it. I sent it to the address on the driver's license and it was returned about a week later, as no such address. Wierd..

Thank goodness for Mr. Jeff Ludy and HWE. They are the champions of the window industry that we need & deserve. I'll add a #6 of common mistakes - window company tells you they operate with small teams for installation (just 2-3 people) - even for installing several, several windows - because they "only hire the best", want to be "unintrusive" in your home, know how to work efficiently, and it "reduces labor costs". Most of the local window cos in my area operate that way. Unfortunately, I've seen what it means, and it's a poor quality install sold as "best that could be done given the limitations of the way your home was built" (Blame the house now...), or a team member is out sick leaving the team even more understaffed, and so forth. What the tiny team approach has meant for me - Sloppy & uneven caulking & trim work, minor damages to home or window, poor use of foam, poor prep work & poor finishing touches. Plus, they take too long or have to rush to meet their timelines. After seeing the full crews that you send from HWE and how well they are trained and co-operate, and how masterfully they put windows into place, I wouldn't want to go small crew ever again!
@HoustonWindowExperts2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and your comment. I'd have to agree with you 100%! Finding a balance between crew size and quality is important. Most homeowners don't have a week off time off for a window project that should have taken one or two days. Thanks for your kind words!
@highlander20002 жыл бұрын
@@HoustonWindowExpertsfor comparison in my case - how many team members do you think you would typically provide for an install of 10 vinyl/fiberglass frame single hung windows, roughly 36" x 72" average size, all installed in brick - replacing x10 aluminum frame windows original to home (20+ years old). Local co said would have 4 + owner checking in & helping out. Ended up with just 2-3 people (one was owner) per day for 2.5 day project. They were clearly understaffed.

OMG, I should have done my due diligence with you first, Jeff. The pushy sales person was so good in her sales tactics that I signed the contract without giving me at least 1 day to think about it. I cancelled the contract the next day by voicemail message and email to the Design Consultant. No response from her after 9 hours of waiting for confirmation. I called the Customer Care Team and let them know what happened and he said he’ll relay my message to his supervisor. Guess what I got a call from her within minutes of my call to the rep. Her supervisor talked to her and said they can put my order on hold. That should have happened yesterday when I was begging for just 1 day to think about it. I said NO please cancel the contract. 😮 Wow, this is a great video, a million 🙏 thanks.RbA should retrain their sales people to listen to what their Customers want and Not what they want to happen. They have a great product and they’re going to lose customers because of the manipulative way they handle and treat their customers. For all I know RbA probably don’t care and maybe encourage this kind of behavior, I hope I am wrong.

I needed 4 windows replaced ASAP due to severe condensation issues. It was so bad it was literally a puddle next to them. I knew all the tricks of the trade and told the guy right from the get go if you are honest with me (which wasn’t hard to tell) and give me a fair price I would sign then and there. He gave me a price of $6k. I said I know the deal I say no and tomorrow I’m gonna get a call from a project manager saying he can knock off $1,000. Do that now and I will sign. Of course, he says he needs to make a call and 5 min later comes back and says he can do it. I was very impressed. What you also need to do is check reviews. They are usually pretty accurate.

Wow, I just went through mistakes 3,4, & 5 today with a reputable national brand. I flat out told them that the today only pricing reflected very poorly on their company, and we didn’t bite. They said to expect follow up calls from their “manager” if they don’t hear from us. (The rehash manager?). Glad I found your channel. While I rarely fall for these techniques, having done contract management for many years, there is always a new angle. I wasn’t aware of the scenario around zero percent financing. Going to watch for that in the future. My opinion of this national brand of windows went down quite a bit today.

They require all homeowners to be there and if the rep arrives and one party is missing, they won't give the free quote. They offer nonsense fake promotions like "end-of-the-year"or whatever. I didn't have a really high pressure salesman. Maybe because I didn't want so many windows replaced. But the guy didn't look at the windows well. He just said sure to all I asked. He tried to get into why their products were better. I wanted their product. Rule number 1 , I messed up. He never explained how the new windows would be put in. I have a wood frame with a bar between two casement windows. Getting an awning window to replace the 2 casement windows. He didn't look at the windows outside. I am getting 3 windows capped. All 3 of them have awnings attached to the frames that would need to be taken down and replaced. The buy tonight thing was a tactic I saw. But I wanted them immediately. Only to wait 6 months to install. The measurement guy came 2 months after the salesman. No going over my design choices. Lol. He barely stayed to look at the outside of the windows with the awnings in question. They may have a great product. But after all this, Never again with Andersen.

Great informational videos ... I've watched some others this morning ... 7 months too late. I now have windows with FAT FRAMES that cut down my light and visibility at least an additional 2" on each side, top and bottom. I'm getting used to it on my sliders (which, by the way, cost me over half of my window sill depth as well) because they encompass two single hung windows. The kitchen window is only 36" wide and I had to get a single hung window for it. It didn't take up any additional sill space but the frames take away about 3" on each side, top and bottom besides the fact I can't reach over the sink to open it. The company has agreed to replace it with a casement window which will give me more glass space, a window that will open, and leave the sill untouched. Lets not talk price. I live on a lake in rural FL and these windows are "top of the line" hurricane windows. I've had two friends say they look like very good quality, sturdy windows. I'm sure I could have done better but moving complications, time, distance, and covid delays made it more difficult. Just glad to be over phase 1. Now I will shop for pricing for the remaining 3 widows once these are paid for.

It's similar to shopping for mattresses - none of the players (well, very few) are there to help you make an informed decision. They prefer you make a choice based on...I dunno, fear? It's getting to the point where i distrust window salespeople as much as i distrust used car dealers.
