detritus worms? or the actual brown stuff?... detritus just means waste, so for that id gravel vacuum carefully...for the worms (which arent harmful, but mean you're overfeeding most likely), id go get some de-wormer at a local fish shop. dog or cat dewormer works also, but lookup the recipe for how much of which brand is needed for your size tank. goodluck!

Do the blue v shrimp cross with the RCS?
@Fishtory6 жыл бұрын
yes, depending on the blue source, some will even mix colors, but many types just revert back to red or wild
@jrich4365 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you mean by cross Blue and Red will not make purple for instance As Blues came from Cherrys you can have a blue/Red Cross that produces a bunch of blues and a few reds Then depending on which blue or red you cross those hybrids with you could end up with reds, blues (both low grade) but eventually what some will call “wild” or brownish reds So I would say “no” to the answer as most people thing of cross as either a color wheel or a “show both traits” It will not do either as most people mean it

In detail, yes you're totally correct, however for a generation they'll kind of make some crazy "crosses", with a trend towards reverting wild also appearing soon after

It could, however egg color is random... green, yellow orange, brown, white, clear or blackish... no idea why. I guess youll have a surprise in 4 weeks or so...and the baby shrimp likely hide for 3 or 4 more weeks ... you'll see tiny tiny shrimp with somewhat translucent bodies a tenth of an inch long and should be able to guess color immediately after hatching..but itll mostly show on their tiny little shoulder. The plants I have are 2 Anubias, 1 Amazon Sword, 3 Banana Lilies, 3 Dwarf Lilies, and 6 new cutting of Purple Waffle.
@Fishtory6 жыл бұрын
unfortunately purple waffle isnt aquatic (maybe you already know, and are growing it up out of the tank and just keeping the roots wet?). But petsmart and petco sell it in the aquarium tank like jerks, same with ribbon swords. However it usually survives a few months until it melts and rots. I know how it goes to get the MTS bug and end up with a dozen tanks 6 months later....if you put the time in, its a hobby you can keep learning from and discovering new things for a lifetime
@Fishtory6 жыл бұрын
also, if you get some faster growing plants like rotala, or water sprite/pogostemon octopus, or wisteria. those plants will help keep the water cleaner and you can keep more than a fish per gallon. but if you have male and female guppies, theyll be 30 or 40 in no time flat haha... which is okay if you have enough plants growing and eating the ammonia they put out

@Fishtory6 жыл бұрын
yes all the behavioral norms will be the same in most of the colors... the only exception may be green jades, or palmata snowball or "pearl" variant lines because the wild versions of those are a from 3000 miles south of davidii shrimp species and thus their a bit more unpredictable on how timid they are and color stability down the road. Greens are notoriously the least consistent shrimp, followed by a lot of yellow lines and blues.... a good blue dream line is great and requires half as much culling of the runts/color oddities....it pays to buy good strains in the first place...you'll have more good quality, well behaved and healthy shrimp. so 4 dollars vs 6 or 7 for a blue or yellow ....id pay it. right after a female molts,there stomach will drop down and look fatter,then the males in the tank will swim crazy all over looking for her, and she will escape them,so I turn the lights out for a couple hours,then when I turn back on,she is berried.i have actually took a female that just molted,and took 3 males,and put them in a hang on display box that fish stores use,and it worked,the males caught the female more quickly,even with light on,very interesting ! they actually pin the female down for about a minute. the more interesting part is the males and females that are breeding,are only over a little over a month old,so they are very young juveniles at best!

I added a tannin tonic within days of one of my RCS giving birth. I, sadly, caused a miscarriage and now she has moldy green dead babies loitering in her underbelly. I've quarantined her in case she too dies (I won't have to hunt for her in that case), or if she develops any sort of sporous fungi I don't want in my main tank. Firstly, what do you think her chances are of surviving, and secondly, what is actually going to happen? Will they melt where they are, will they fall out onto the vessel floor, will they make her sick? I'm new to the aquarium hobby and really want to help this lil gal out. I'm such an a-hole... Here's a video of what she looks like today : Jump to 5 :31 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmKUnn9vr9OVqJY
@Fishtory5 жыл бұрын
She may survive after she sheds...but most likely it is not your fault...the tannins probably shocked the shrimp (they dislike tannic water in most cases...and neocaridina dislike anything under a 6.5 ph usually... so honestly get the shrimp out of there into a jar if you have to... neocadiridina are hardy and the babies are actually probably the fungi elobiopsidae (sp) and all you did was stress her..not kill her babies or make her sick...that was lurking in her body waiting for a weakness in her immune system. So just get her in a tank or even bowl with cycled water or distilled water and wait...add catapa leaves and if she stays 65 degrees or warmer, she will be okay...or she will die. but that illness is rampant and hides in shrimp brought over from asia ...I'd get shrimp from a new spot if I were you.... where did you purchase her?
@Beansie5 жыл бұрын
@@Fishtory I got her at either Petco or my LFS which aren't into shrimp, they are actually just counter dressing next to the register. Is there any way to kill the fungus without using harsh chemicals? I've seen quite a few videos successfully using aquarium salt. I thought the tannins would help against infection considering it's antibacterial, like the catappa leaves in the tank. I utilize crushed coral, liquid calcium, trace minerals, calcium rich foods, Snail-O, crushed egg shells, cuttlebone and BioMix from Marks Shrimp Tanks...I like to keep it on the harder side for my apple snail shells.
