In 1943 Lord Brabazon of Tara headed a Committee to explore the needs of post war British civilian passenger airliners. The Brabazon Report was the result of the committee’s work, which recommended the construction of four of the five designs under consideration.
One of the designs studied was awarded to The Bristol Aeroplane Company at Filton and the aircraft was named the Bristol Type 167 Brabazon. Their contract was for the construction of two prototypes of this aircraft . Work started on the first aircraft in 1946 and it was ready for its maiden flight in September 1949. It visited the Farnborough Air Show the same month and was demonstated at the Paris Air Show in 1951.
This large aircraft, which would become one of the largest in the world required the existing 2000 foot runway at Filton to be lengthened to 8000 feet, which meant the demolition and removal of a local village.
The construction and assembly of this very large aircraft also required the construction of a similar large size assembly hall building. Construction of the building commenced in 1946 which was then the largest single span steel structure, (possibly in the World?). It comprised 3 separate bays, total length 352 metres, height at apex of bay 35 metre, total enclosed volume 1 million cubic metres.

Sorry to hear that you weren’t very well recently, I just wanted to put on record how much I enjoy your channel, I love your dogmatic attitude, what you see is what you get! I am 80 years old, and in the later stages of prostate cancer, which is not too comfortable at times, but your videos really make me forget any discomfort I might be feeling. A very big thank you to you, and your gang. Kindest of regards to you, Peter

I used to work in Rolls Royce across the road, and the only time I went over to the Brabazon hanger was after one of the RR Spitfires had crashed. I heard that the wreckage had been transported home to Filton for evaluation, and I wanted to see how bad it was. Knowing that the pilot had died in the crash made the whole idea of going there to look feel really eerie. All the pieces collected from the crash site had been laid out on the floor in there like some macabre crushed Airfix kit. I didn't end up getting very close to it. I could see how bad it was from near the door, and it suddenly felt really wrong to be there ogling at the wreckage, so I didn't hang around in there for many seconds before deciding I'd seen enough.

So sad to see the collapse of Filton as an aerospace powerhouse. 3 generations of my family, including me worked in those hangers, No 7DO, NO 8 DO, and the tech centre. Now seemingly in ruins.

Amazing video Matt...Its sad how we've gone from making the worlds biggest plane here in the 1940s with 8 engines. Then we made the first super sonic passenger plane here that we designed then went into partnership with france to build. Now to a big housing estate on the runway a bit like what they did with the old Hong Kong airport runway. I think they might be keeping the three hangers though. Turning them into an event centre if you believe that. Its a shame we cant be a bit more self sufficient with making planes especially military one's. We'd be struggling if we needed some in a hurry.

any thoughts that could make this island separate from the modern world of globalism is a big no no in the eyes of the globalist. you cant be talking publicly about self sufficiency for the country as that could lead a way to build up momentum for populism to take hold and could shift power away from the globalist. which would be a globalist night mare. its one reason to name but a few why the globalist got rid of trump away from the seat of power. cant have kids thinking in populist terms. we have to keep our kids dumb down not knowing about history or anything good this country did for the world in the past. we have to make it so our kids think we only ever did bad in the world in the past nothing good came out of Britain attitude being reinforced by left wing teachers who hold dear there ideals of communism so close to there hearts.

IT IS ALSO GOING TO BE THE BRISTOL ARENA AT SOME TIME UNLESS MARVIN REES CHANGES HIS MIND AGAIN. ALL SORTS OF AIRCRAFTS WERE BUILT IN THERE, SPITFIRES, THE BRISTOL FREIGHTER AND CONCORDE.

I've just watched this as I've watched many of your videos and am intrigued that you say "the steps vehicle" was driven with respect and put back where you found it. Quite honestly, you should be prosecuted for these actions. Your ethos is that you are not breaking the law by entering abandoned buildings and that while you are in there you do no damage but driving this vehicle around the hangar smacks of childish, laddish behaviour which could have resulted in an accident requiring emergency services to attend. You obviously know that you are doing something wrong by being on the property or you wouldn't be so wary of being spotted by any security personnel. Shame on you.
