You learn something every day. Even the cheapest pillow cases in the UK come with this inner flap. I thought they were the standard for pillow cases all over the world. I like the burrito method of adding the contrasting fabric, and the French seams give a really neat finish.

Hi. Thanks Tracey. Little tip... when you turn the pillowcase inside out, to do the last of the French seam, flip the flap over, so that the opening is in the top memory fold. Sew the side seams. When you turn it out again, the French seams are hidden inside the flap.

In Australia, back in 1960, when I was nine years old my Aunty taught me to sew. This type of pillowcase is the first thing I made. Our pillowcases are all made like this. Thank you for this tutorial .. i proceeded confidently and with no need to rip out any seams as happens when I "guess" my way through a project. The delightful addition of a hidden, decorative seam "not because the user will see it, but YOU" will when you change the pillow." How disarming, charming and eye opening. Not for the "likes" and ,👍 but because you yourself will like it. Big warm hug from India for that

I rarely make pillowcases because I can’t find fabric that I want to have my face next to, but I love the pattern. One quick tip. If you press the seams flat before turning it over to make a French seam, you don’t have to fiddle with trying to roll it into place. It will fold smoothly and crisply. You can then sew a straight 1/4” seam without fuss.
