The unmovable mountains, The Takedas. My favorite clan. I always choose them for some reason in games set in Sengoku period. I think it all due to the Kurosawa movie "Kagemusha". I think Shingen Takeda himself is a Sinophile, as he was an expert in Chinese poetry and really loved reading Sun Tzu art of war, even his famous red oni looking helmet with the white hair was imported from rare Yak hair from the "Mainland". Funny how I got this info from the videogame Nioh as you can receive Shingens helmet in the game with the description where the white hair came from. I remember someone mentioned that the Takeda clan might have been destroyed, but their descendant still survived probably thanks to Tokugawa Ieyasu who protected majority of the Takedas. Think one of them now work as a Political commentator.
@hanchiman
@hanchiman 3 жыл бұрын
@Warren Shredder!! haha kinda ironic as historically they were destroyed by firearms. Another lost gem that is now abandonware and probably hard to find is "Takeda", think there are 3 series made of it by Magitech they had a pretty good theme song kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6W9lmaGqd6CZ6M
@hanchiman
@hanchiman 3 жыл бұрын
@Warren Shredder!! Haha to be honest, Nioh 2 seems like a disappointment the way they put the storyline wise. I would have preferred they focus on the Shimabara Rebellion with William Adam further adventure. Maybe William Adam have a longevity life and we see him living long life in Japan to see the Samurai culture end up to the Black Ships. Still credits to Nioh and Koei Tecmo, as they always research their history well. Alot of the samurai armor in the Nioh game are really based on the historical samurai armors to the point. For example Tachibana armor is exact like the historical one. Also they mention small tidbit info about the armor, Like Ieyasu changed into a small hat in his Osaka campaign due to old age. The only inaccurate portrayals are the weapons. Although majority of the sword do exist, including the 5 National Treasure of Japan swords.

Takeda is my favourite clan of Sengoku Jidai. I first learned about them through playing the original Samurai Warriors game and they've stuck with me ever since then. From the wise Shingen, to his generals like Masakage Yamagata, Masanobu Kosaka, to his brothers, Nobushige & Nobukado Takeda to his sons in Katsuyori and Yoshinobu. Takeda was an all around very interesting clan of Sengoku Jidai. Add their legendary cavalry and unique persona's their battles witht he Uesugi{Who are my second favourite clan of SJ} and their brief expansion before their initial downfall. They are a clan whose to be highly respected despite having their rough downfall, but at one point they came close to ruiling Japan and I know if they did conquer it back then, Japan would be a very different place than it is today. So in saying that, I'm glad *The Shogunate* is doing a video on them and shining some limelight in their history.

Sorry but let me correct a misunderstanding for your sake. It's not true that Takeda's four diamonds represent wind, forest, fire, and mountain though Shingen Takeda made his famous battle flag with these four words. Actually, Takeda Bishi was invented more than 100 years before Shingen picked up these four words he liked for his flag.

13:50 "...injury or illness" According to the Buke Jiki (among other sources), Shingen had tuberculosis and suffered effects for several years. The Takeda army was actually assembled in Suruga and Shinano, and had just defeated the advance force of Ieyasu and prepared to march on Nagoya when Shingen suffered another attack, and died. The rumours about him being wounded were (at least according to local historians in Yamanashi) invented by Hideyoshi, to make it sound like he had been "defeated"

a lot of historians always talk about nobunaga and his genius and im not saying its not warranted but imho Shingen was the biggest and baddest of them all. He took a clan in a terrible province (kai) and turned them into a absolute powerhouse economically (which is the biggest deal considering how poor kai was) and militarily. the race for shinano was a perfect example of how close he managed his affairs, as the clan was on the verge of economic collapse the whole time, and i cant help but wonder if he had forced his way into the kanto how it would have turned out. and before all of you kenshin fans go "well he couldnt beat kenshin" look at the difference in their holdings, Echigo was a top 3 richest province in japan especially agriculturally, whereas shingen had to spend years building a irrigation system in kai to just feed his people.

Takeda is my faverite clan, mainly becouse of their cavalery, but their history is very tragic and yet, everybody heard abouth great Takeda Shingen, personaly I've heard abouth Shingen before I heard abouth Oda Nobunaga.

What really got me interested in the Takeda was Kagemusha. That was an awesome film by Akira Kurosawa

i got into your channel with your Sengoku Jidai videos and i was curious if you'll consider doing similar videos for earlier eras of japan. I for one would be EXTREMELY interested in such content from you! The kamakura and Muromachi periods are such that i know little about other than that the Onin war and the Mongol invasions occurred. Regardless i thank you sincerely for the amazing content youve given us. and a special nod to your Gekokujo review video for getting me into Mount and Blade. feels like a bit of a disgrace id never heard of/ played the game until recently and I've already put in 100 hours just this past month alone

Takeda! You have answered my unspoken wishes Sir 😃❤ Any further Takeda videos in sight? Also, I have some spare cash to spend on support of a KZbin historian, any idea where to go with it?

After this video I really think you should make a top 10 best/most influential Clans in the Sengoku Jidai list dude. In retrospect at least. 🙂

I've heard that Harunobu Takeda changed his name to Shingen Takeda alongside his loyal retainers Toratane Hara and Yamamoto Kansuke after entering priesthood. I've also heard that General Seishiro Itagaki of Imperial Japanese Army during WW2 came from the descendants of one of Takeda Clan retainer the Itagaki family. By the way, Toratane Hara is my favourite retainer of the Takeda clan.:-)

Let your rapidity be that of the wind, your gentleness that of the forest. In raiding and plundering be like fire, be immovable like a mountain. These guys had one of the mightiest armies in Japan for a reason.
