I love the whole show!! It's one of my all time favorite shows!! I love the Audition scene. When the curtain raises just a bit and you see are the feet, awesome! And also when they dance on the stairs at the end.

When the lockdowns were first put into effect and I saw the story about Broadway's lights being shut, all I could think of was the entire soundtrack, but especially this number. "42nd Street" and "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" are my favorites, but I love just about all of the songs.

I had the pleasure of working with Clare Halse in 2016. She was lovely, and a triple threat powerhouse, I'm glad to see that hasn't changed, incredible.

There's a lot you don't know about tap dance, it seems :) Tap can be highly artistic ;)
@musicalmattress10533 жыл бұрын
@@danielsvoboda6233 thanks, I can do tap actually. But I always associated it with "Giv'em a big time show!", which this number absolutely is. But it also has something very intricate and dark about it. And that's what I love about it. The subliminal tragedy.
@danielsvoboda62333 жыл бұрын
@@musicalmattress1053 If you take a look at non-theatrical tap dancers, you'll find all bunch of great artistic stuff. I do tap as well and what I truly love is the combination of contemporary dance with tap - that's highly artistic. But even without that, if you take a look at the international competitions, usually it's either packed with skill or expression or even better - with both :)

Absolutely love this. Had listened to the original Broadway soundtrack for years, but had never seen a Broadway performance. Only saw clips here and there of local productions posted online. This was exactly how I imagined it. The crowd dance scenes, especially the finale, could rival Busby Berkeley. Bravissimo!
@JulianChild4 жыл бұрын
Impressive choreography considering that it looks like there are so many more than 36 chorus members on that stage. I do have to add that, while this was a little better camera work than most, I wish that we could see this number with a stationary camera showing the whole stage. Such a letdown when there's a huge ensemble number on which everyone worked so hard and the camera zooms in on just a few or the angles keep changing. But, wow ... thank you for this!

I always loved the slight ridiculousness of "42nd Street" being "The Avenue I'm Taking You To".... for the purposes of this song having slightly better meter than it would have otherwise (The Avenue is in fact, 7th Avenue, or possibly Broadway).

Maybe someone can answer a question for me. I saw this years ago on tour and when it was revived in New York and I SWEAR that all the times I saw it (it ended up being 4 times) that the sailor was shot accidentally in all those productions. Am I crazy? Or was that a choice change this production made?
@RobertThompson-wp1yd4 жыл бұрын
The original script calls for the sailor (sometimes a soldier) to be shot accidentally while the pickpocket gets away. In this production they needed the sailor to stay alive to tap out the rest of the spectacular scene! I hope you enjoyed it!

When they talk about girls being from the "fifties" and "eighties", do they mean street numbers?
@valerierice9224 жыл бұрын
Since this song is originally from 1934 I think they mean the 1850s and the 1880s, but dressed the dancers like they are from the 1950s and 1980s since we're in a new century now.
@pearpenguin4 жыл бұрын
Yes. You are right. Also the 80's was a more sophisticated area of the city and the 50's a bit less so.
@kathyknight38964 жыл бұрын
Yes, they mean the street numbers. The areas of NYC change dramatically from the "50s" to the "80s". Higher numbers usually mean a bit seedier. At least it used to.
@JulianChild4 жыл бұрын
I think it was made a little more obvious in the original Hollywood film but, yes, their referring to specific neighborhoods in New York City.
