4x4 is quite hard because of it being an even layered cube, 17x17 is harder, but easier than 16x16 or 18x18 because of it being odd layered cube.

The YuXin HuangLong 17x17x17 has a Trina tu mechanism, so you can assemble all of the 3x3x3 pieces on their own, so that’s what you should start with, and then the next part is that you can assemble the 5x5x5 pieces on their own (the pieces right next to/around the 3x3x3 edges and corners). Then assemble the rest of the pieces after that. Also, it’s easier to do it corner section by corner section.
