The food takes a little to cook so your sim sets it up and walks away whist it cooks then when it’s done you can come back and serve it. So he couldn’t do anything with the food yet anyway

For growing plants free of charge all year long: You could put a room around the plants, put a roof on top, then deleting the walls. With this method, your plants grow in any season, because they are covered. Plus: roofing is free. For realism you can put 4 cheap pillars on the corners. Thats how I do it every time :)

And deleting the floor tiles allows you to grow plants directly on the “ground”, too, no need to spend any money on those planter things then :p

I use the half roof. Make the pitch high enough and you don’t need to bother with walls. Add a cheap door and it works as a shelter too... my sim didn’t do well in the tent during a big thunderstorm 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Build a roof!!!! Just the roof itself (it is for free, rigth?) and if you want it not to be floating just put 4 columns under! If you put your plants under the roof they will be "sheltered" and will work at all seasons!

I saw this video, and desided to repeat this adventure without money. I have start from fishing then gether pineapples around. Half of it I plant, and other I use like food. Then sold all gethered from garden. Bought tent and fire. Then I have got 99+ pineapples per day. And before Autumn is start, I already had house with cheep things.

Getting rid of the seagulls might be part of helping the island because they'd attack baby sea turtles trying to get to the ocean. I think it'd be fine having one or two of each of the island plants (pineapple, taro root, coconut) to aid with filling hunger. It'll also raise your gardening skill faster, which will be beneficial when you get/graft plantains. If you're keeping the grand fire pit (which makes sense to me; it'a part of this pack and the Outdoor Retreat cooking fire pit is super glitchy), you might want to look into a fridge/cooler that's off-the-grid to store leftovers.

I was playing last night and spent at least 10 hours, sim time lol and yes used the make happy cheat, going in the cave and got most of the graffiti art map filled and leveled up on making the island nice. My sim got 18 kelp and a bunch of crystals, some fish, and artifacts like the eye and heart of sulani. So leveling up can happen that way :) Have her stargaze/cloudgaze for fun...I thought you would know that by now ;)

Hey, look at that, Banana has something resembling a front yard! Incredible! XD Unlike everyone else, I will not berate you for buying the wrong bbq pit, mostly because I feel it's more in the spirit of this particular Rags to Riches to get the Island Living one. I will say that you should PROBABLY steer clear of the fish dishes, though. . .especially if you're dumping the foul fish on the pit. XD At any rate, yes, we did make some good progress in this episode! The island is looking much nicer, we've found an easy source of fun (so long as there are seagulls -- although whatever she was doing to "relax" in the tent at the beginning managed to fill up her fun over the night. . .), we've found and sold some buried treasure, we've bought a few life necessities and gotten high on kava. . .life is -- goodish? It's better than it was at the beginning of the episode, anyway. :p

James, you can eat by going to any random person's house and clicking on "Have quick meal" on their fridge. They won't get mad at you as long as you don't actually cook. I'd also recommend a cheap grill, they still work off the grid. Also, you don't need that planter box to buy seeds!!! You can buy them in buy mode, they are right next to the planter box. Don't know how you missed them LOL.

If you buy a grill, which should work off-grid, you will be able to grill fruit, which should be free if you have fruit in your inventory. You need to harvest plants /before/ you are uncomfortably hungry, and then keep the fruit in your inventory for when you need it.

If you survey the plant, there is a chance you "find" they are being plagued by an invasive species! They're little earthworms looking things, and can also happen to plants in your gardens like the insects. You have to look closely at their base though, its kinda easy to miss... I still haven't tested if "tend garden" option will deal with them as well.

To see turtles, you have to fully restore the island! It's amazing, there's a whole event where baby turtles hatch and you get to watch them go into the ocean! Your Sim can cheer them on, too! You also gotta take advantage of those odd jobs, they may not pay much but you'll reach your goals MUCH faster.

Every time you start a new beachcomb action, the other one gets cancelled. This is a problem in my game too, not sure if it’s a glitch. But don’t queue them up! You beachcomb a few places with one action anyway!

The baby turtle event isn't unlocked until after Mua Pel'am is restored. You get different moodlets for swimming in it too! AND you also unlock albino dolphins swimming around that you can call if you're a mermaid

Side note: An idea for the next Rags to Riches could be to only be allowed to place portable objects on your lot (tents, coolers, etc.) until you've saved enough money to move to a NEW lot, so it's like you're actually homeless and camping out on your lot until you can afford a place. If you want to get really technical, the lots in Del Sol Valley's Starlight Boulevard are worth $0 when bulldozed for some reason, so you could start there and not get any free money at all.
