I definitely agree with making the guest bedroom the smaller room! We learned in our most recent house to use the best rooms for our needs (offices, game rooms, etc). We don’t have guests all that much and in our previous house those rooms were barely used.
@LoLPlayback
@LoLPlayback 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, people always think they are gonna have guests over more than they do. Lol. And usually guests don’t end up spending the night very often, maybe a few times a year, so it doesn’t make sense to use a larger room for it. We actually are planning to get a Murphy bed frame for our guest room so that we can still use the room for other things the majority of the time.

Yeah we had a full guest bed is our spare room because we had interstate family but they hardly visit and we ended up changing it to a pull out couch so we could use the space

Yep, fully agree with this advice. You usually only have guests for a total of 1-2 weeks per year (total). It doesn't make sense to use all of that good space for guests who use your house less than you do.

@jadecoyle990
@jadecoyle990 2 жыл бұрын
@@ryleeboizard9356 It's a fancy word for another living space on the same bit of land. Usually hotels/hostels/B&Bs have 'annexes' which are usually the less fancy, cheaper accommodation. We just called it the annex because it was quicker than saying 'the converted garage' XD But it was like a really tiny flat - our own living space, separate from my in-laws, with kitchen, living room, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom kind of thing.

yeah, that space is super ideal for a playroom. and maybe it's just me, but i think that a kinda equivalent thing would make sense for deli & james specifically: a bowser room! ik dogs have a Lot of Stuff that takes up storage and floor space, etc. (like food, toys, leashes, various grooming stuff....) -- that room seems abt the right size to fit a cabinet/chest to store the various dog things, and his big bed, with a little extra room besides. plus it connects to the kitchen - so just beside the kitchen door could be a great place to put his food bowls and avoid the issue of the (small-ish) kitchen/dining area getting crowded. plus he could kinda have his own space. idk if dogs value that quite as much as cats, but.... it seems a nice option to me 😅

Just jumping in here in the beginning to say, that's always the problem I have in TS4 when trying to build real houses. They are always too long. They are not necessarily too wide that I can tell. I wonder why that is? If the scale is off, shouldn't that be a symmetrical thing? Theories from the peanut gallery are welcome. Regarding the scale, I do think it would help if we had half tile segments, but that doesn't address the symmetrical issue. Not much to do in the way of remedies in this iteration, but an interesting convo to me nonetheless.

I tried building my house but I 100% needed half tiles or something. It came out weird and long, and huge too. All the doors didn’t quite fit right either. Which is weird because our place is pretty much a simple rectangle on the outside.
@LivinInSim
@LivinInSim 2 жыл бұрын
@@pastelpinkhoney Yeah, it's true even with simple shaped buildings. Maybe a half tile would fix it more than I think. When I copy a floor plan, I make it smaller, since it isn't real, but then you end up with 1 tile wide sections, or sections that you can't fit furniture in.

First: The ceiling mounted greenscreens are absolutely worth it, 10/10 recommend. Offices feel so much cleaner when that clunky thing is out of the way and doesn't need to be dragged around. Second: As someone who's been married for over 15 years, take the larger office, especially since this house is half yours and you'll be in it all day with the work/life balance. Overnight guests are not frequent enough to warrant losing a space you'd be spending a large part of your time in. Take that bigger office! As for floorplan: I'd drop the wall between that weird nook and the kitchen and make it one large open dining space with an island. I'd close up the archway but leave it's shape to turn it into a nice 'feature' bookcase in the living room area. Cozy cubbies for plants, books, knickknacks, etc. Get a sectional with a chaise instead of a wrap around and then pull it towards bowsers window, mount the TV on a swing/movable arm so you can turn it towards the new couch location and avoid the glare, push it back to the wall when not in use. And is it just me or does 1 bathroom for a 4 bedroom home seem a little strange? Is that common in AUS?

I mean, the bonus room can evolve with your needs. It can start as a workout space and if you decide to start a family, you can make it the controlled kid space by putting up a baby gate and keeping toys and kid things in there. Plus, the little room is an ideal Nursery size. And if you are hosting guests, you can put a Murphy bed in one of your offices (whoever gets the bigger one) and share a workspace while guests are staying with you. Anyways, it is a lovely home and I am very excited for you both.

If real life was the sims, that spare weird room would definitely be a skill building room. If it was my house, I'd probably convert it to a cozy reading nook/ library area, have a comfy chair to drink a tea and look out the window. Also, a dream reno video would be great!

Yeah, for sure. In my case "skill building room" would be a craft and sewing room. So Delis gym stuff and James legos and stuff maybe?

Thoughts for what they’re worth. I’m no professional, just had some ideas come across while watching the two separate videos. Living Room: - Rotate sofa 90° to face the exterior wall along front elevation of home south of the main entrance. - Place television unit between front window and archway to bonus room. - Set console table for storage behind sofa, perhaps a lamp or two along said console table. - Place Bowser’s bed in front of window near entry deck facing drive, should still get a nice vantage of passerby’s for his pleasure. - Add art along back wall alongside door to entryway, bookshelf on wall currently holding television unit. Bonus Room: - set up some type of storage cabinet for work out equipment - smaller living room set up for “reading room” - a bar cart for your finest adult beverages - a futon/day bed for additional “guest room” for when more than two guests may stay. Have so much fun, and I can’t wait to see what happens! ❤️

I think they should upload the shell to the gallery and have the community redesign the existing house with their furniture. Then in a few months have the community renovate the house to make it a dream home…see what the Sims community will come up with😉

You could turn the spare room into a library/relaxation space. Hang up some curtains in the archway, pile rugs on the floor, and have some bean bag chairs or other cozy furniture along with book cases for books. Your house looks really lovely, can't wait to see the video of it.

small room is def best for the guest bedroom for 1 main reason: its furthest from the master bedroom so both yall and the guests can have some privacy, instead of being separated by just one (potentially relatively thin) wall

As someone who has designed a lot of IRL homes and remodels, I would use the room off the kitchen for your dining room since it has the big window with the nice view and then expand your kitchen into the area where you currently have the dining table. I know Deli wants a bigger kitchen and you wouldn't have to remove a wall that way, just the cabinets that form the L, which could be straightened to add to your actual kitchen space. You could add an actual kitchen island that way with plenty of room for a dishwasher. But that advice is coming from someone who loves to cook and whose family spends a lot of time congregating in the kitchen. Everyone's needs are different and sometimes people make certain rooms because they think every house has to have a living room, dining room, etc. They don't. All you need are the rooms you will use. I recently helped a person convert a formal dining room into a home office. She needed an office and didn't care about having a formal dining room, happy to use a fairly large eat in kitchen area instead. The most important thing people can do is imagine themselves moving through the house and picture what they need, what they want, and what they will seldom use but have because it's expected in a house. Get rid of what you won't use to make room for what you will. Enjoy your new home! You and Deli deserve every happiness!

Yes please...dream reno! The little nook would work for a more formal dining room but if you only entertain casually then having the eat-in kitchen works just as well. An exercise area is fine, or even an area for comfortable reading or quiet pursuits if one wanted to be away from the tv. I have a little area that I use for that in my home and I adore it. It also gives a space for conversation away from the tv area when friends visit. :)

I live in Europe and have seen those laundry rooms more than once. Usually the washing machine is in the bathroom in my country but some apartments do have a closet in the hallway that opens to a washing machine (usually doesn’t have a sink or bench tops tho)…

@@kimmiebeeck4398 former Soviet Union, Baltic countries. :) It is definitely not the norm but it’s not that uncommon either. Houses from the Soviet times have small apartments and this is a way to have a separate laundry that doesn’t take up much room. I’ve seen a fair share of kitchens covered with folded doors like that as well, built between two walls.

The little extra living room/old dining room could be a good space to make into a movie room perhaps - depending on the dimensions - and your couch could fit nicely in the corner, and then the bigger living space could be nice to just make into a chill out space for hanging out with friends and family. And if you want a workout space, you could use the space bedroom for that and put in a Murphy bed or something like it for when people spend the night, that way the room will also be for more use and not just for once every 6 months (or what it was 😋) and the closet could potentially be an easy place to move equipment into when people stay over 😊

Office is used every day make sure it gives you joy! We converted our formal dining into a “library” we lined one wall with ikea bookshelves and even got the stacking piece on top. And the other wall is a full wall gallery wall with travel photos, our degrees etc. Use the spandrels instead of the archway! And lastly do a dream version for sure!

In a dream world you could renovate the extra dining room into a second bathroom! And if it’s too large then you could fit a walk-in pantry in aside it as well to free up more kitchen space. Congratulations on the home!!

I have a suggestion for your "bonus" space! In my house there's an oddly shaped room with a fireplace that we use as a sitting room for putting on a fire and listening to music. You can add some cozy seating, a portable fireplace, record/music player and a drinks cart. It's so nice having a sitting room away from the TV. Alternatively, if you like entertaining you can double down on the bar furniture and make it your "cocktail lounge"

I actually really like this house. It's like something I'd build because I don't like to make traditional homes. Personally, I'd use that extra dining area as a library. I have a LOT of books. Make it cozy with a small corner wood burning stove and comfortable over-stuffed lounge chairs and maybe an old school record player. Would be lovely to drink hot cocoa on cold rainy days. I would also move that modular couch more toward Bowser's bed to open that space up more. It'd make a nice little nook for Bowser but give you more room to move. Like others have said, you could use a smaller end piece on the island to get a wider walk space. Put some lounge chairs on the patio. Also you shouldn't put your barbeque up against the wall. Set it on the other side of the porch to carry smoke and fire danger away from the house. haha

You could use that extra dining room space for a library/reading nook. Or put a bar in there and some comfy chairs and use the space for when you have people over. Possibly even a board game room or music room depending on what you're into when you're not simming. And maybe if you stay there long enough, you could convert that covered patio into a sunroom. Imagine how much Bowser would LOVE to have yard views on 3 sides and still be in air conditioning with all his hot floof.
