I acquired this car in Brooklyn Grey a week ago. I had owned an Audi e tron GT for three years before that. In nearly every way the i4 M50 is a step forward. The Audi was terrific overall and gorgeous to look at. But in terms of immense easy power, braking, steering, ergonomics, range (am getting up to 300 miles on 19’s) and certainly technology, this car excels. I’m sure I’ll like the BMW even more as I learn how best to drive it.

I wonder if it’s possible to get the i4 with the normal grille as the non electric. I don’t like that plastic piece covering half the grille. I’ve always wondered if BMW would give you a normal one or if you can even buy a normal one and have them put it on. Anyone knows? Thanks

Literally just got one this weekend. I am in absolute love. I didn't think I would be happy on the EV train, but every single drive is the highlight of my day. I agree about the range seeming to be short of 230 miles. Then again, it's impossible to drive this thing in eco off the highway... Only because there's so much fun to be had in comfort and sport mode.

Yup, looking at the exact same in PNW, 78kand leases are crazy good, as a 3rd car, they have 44 of them! I was told 599 plus taxes and a 6300 down 3 yr lease(73k) , great daily if u can charge easy at home and at work..and I was told 2 yrs free charging electrify America..bargain, bargain, bottom line, bmw can’t give these away FAST ENOUGH

Yeah this car has been great. Got my m50 used back in December 2023, and I’m still wondering why the previous guy gave it up. It’s absolutely exhilarating and fun to drive. I’ve been just having a blast anytime I get to take it out.

We love our M50 and have been driving it for two years now. It's our favorite car of our lifetime...but then I see the coming BMW D-vision neue klasse. That's a gorgeous car and I'm going to be tempted to trade in when the time comes

My last three cars: 2017 BMW M3, 2021 Tesla 3 Performance, 2024 BMW i4 M50. The i4 M50 is my favorite out of the three by far, I absolutely love it. It's the heaviest out of the bunch but chuck it into a corner and it's still extremely visceral and fun. The Model 3 Performance felt like I was playing a driving game of a car on a Playstation, if that makes sense.

The best solution for the range us getting an I4 edrive 40. That’s rear wheel drive so no tendency to understeer. And de M50 has a slight understeery feeling when pushed. Beautiful car though, and mindblowing fast

I have an M50 in Portimao Blue (looks very close to this test car) . I have the 19 in wheels. Sadly after a year and half almost, have still not done the launch control in Sport Boost. Oh this one has iDeive 8.5 I think. But yeah I wish the HVAC controls were buttons. My mom just got the new X3 and it's a better balance between buttons and screen. So yeah curved screen with HVAC controls with buttons would have been perfect. A lot of my fellow owners want to switch out their grills for the LCI M grill. I will consider it myself.

Violet Blue is an Individual color. the reason to get an i4 would be the discounts over the ICE counterpart. similar MSRP on the i4 M50 you are gonna pay $4-500 bucks less a month than the M3/4. I think the i4 is designed similarly to the i5/5 series with a sandwich floor to be an full EV capable platform. That's why the 4 series coupe isn't offered as i4 as that body doesn't have the sandwich floor.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe was designed from the outset to be their compact/midsize EV offering. It's the only way to explain why the piston-driven 4 Gran Coupe has the flush door handles befitting an EV. They knew the only way they could sell a new EV line was to make it at least a little practical even if the aim was to be sportier than the iX. So it's a 4 Series, but really the five-door liftback version.

The "testes" front is not growing on me, or dropping so to speak. Even in an EV, the cheap screen is a bad aesthetic they should make a custom binnacle and controls on the dash.

Because it's built in such a way so the body panels won't shift over time and under loads like a Tesla. Have no panel gaps in your brand-new Tesla 3 Performance? You will, eventually. We are talking about a car where you _have to_ close the hood with gentle pressure using both hands in order to prevent a dent from forming in the sheet metal.

I just leased one yesterday. The dealer had 23 i4 m50's. I agree about the colors (I thankfully got San Remo Green/Cognac), but most of the ones there had the drivers assist package (including mine.)

The car has low range because of the wheel option. That particular M50 has the 20" wheels which are very wide with sticky performance tires.

After owning an i4 M50 for 6 months, I experience the lack of sound as a feature to have a greater and smoother driving feel, you’re not distracted by the engine, you feel the pure speed and power, there’s nothing between the driver and the road, except the typical BMW behavior of the car. Switching back to a petrol car, I find the engine sound entertaining, but after half an hour annoying. 99% of the time I want a silent car and the instant power of an electric motor brings a sporty car to another level.

@@mikedelicus i have owned 3 ev’s by now and i went back to petrol. I really tried to like it, but there was something missing. You just cant do anything fun with a EV. Nobody can hear you arrive or leave. You cant drift, you cant leave in a cloud of smoke, you cant rev, no pops and bangs, no upgradeability, no turbo whistle, no turbo flutter, no exhaust sound, everrything that makes a car fun is gone. What you are describing as fun is pretty casual and nothing that a car enthusiast would find to be enough. Ev’s lack character. There is nothing to differentiate the cars anymore. Theyre all the same. With combustion cars there are so many things that differantiate models and brands that are no more with evs. Without a real engine there is no emotion, they are sterile. And you can never replace a combustion car with an EV unless youre 70years ole and want silence and calm🤷🏼♂️ if thats the case i understand😛

Every other EV out there seems to be an SUV or a -modern day station wagon- compact crossover. This makes the i4 one of a relatively few in the market space (electric coupe or sedan). It's what sold me on the car-- I was getting out of a wagon when I got the i4, and I wasn't in a mood to make my new ride yet another hatchback.

I have the BMW i4 M40 sport grand coupe and personally dislike the car after driving it for 6000 miles and cant wait to be rid of it next year when i take delivery of the polestar 4. I wish I had never had to swap out from my GV60 for this car. Im a tall man and folding myself inot the car seat which sits really low is frankly uncomfortable. The footwell narrows unecessarily as the chassis is the ICE one so god forbid you have big feet like me. BMW are an egregiously greedy bunch of bastards and paywall safety features despite you having paid for the hardware that is in the car. The range is good is you turn off all the features and run in eco pro mode otherwise it is average at best. It doesnt have a great deal of driver assist features and again they paywall these. some of the control surfaces such as the fog lights are weirdly hidden away under the steering wheel. I doubt much of my gripes were resolved in the M50, the interior and infotainment look identical.

You get the advertised range when driving mostly in comfort or (Eco mode when remaining range is low). The car has more than enough power in comfort mode that I use sport mode on the few occasions when I need the extra power from the M50. I love this car. ❤

I throw it into Sport mode when I have to go canyon carving and need the tighter steering rather than any power. Also, the accelerator dynamics are different between modes. It's harder to be a lead foot in Eco mode than it is in Sport mode because the pedal travel for comparable power delivery is different.

This is easy: The battery sits in the floor and takes that vertical space away, you need for a comfortable rear seating. Building a flat Grand Coupé increases that problem.

Tesla doesnt have a HUD, 360 cam, premium brand name audio brand, near as good seats, u can use ur hand movements to use the screen rather then touching it, buttons for simple things rather then having to look at an ipad for every little thing while driving, etc.. yes it has better and more tech.

The charging is on par with most EVs: 30 mins 10 to 80% at DC fast charging (205 kw) and around 10 hours at home on level 2. You get more range (270 miles) with 19 inch tires

@@gregmiller9957 I get your point but practicality is key. The key is more about the charging curve and less the top speed because even at 150 kw, the BMW charges relatively fast: because of it's charging curve it takes almost the same time compared to a 350kw given the car only accepts 205kw max. I'm speaking from experience. Point being that 150kw DC charger for the i4 is still reasonably fast enough especially if you are not always having to charge from 10 to 80. I generally roll in at around 30% and charge to around 70% which will get me home to complete at L2 charging.
