Yay finally! I normally roll my eyes whenever there's an update because of the pain of moving over to the new version, but the upgrades are too good to miss out on. There are a lot of plug ins that are needing to catch up though, so if you rely on them as part of your day to day process, then be wary before changing.

True, though I was very happy with the performance of the new error dialogue in this case - I didn't get a bug splat, just an option to unload the extensions that were broken. Not sure if that's the case with every extension, but still a big improvement in my mind

Although I already moved to 3dsmax since last year, it is still great to see SU to have significant nice updates! I personally feel that the draft view of the linework in Layout looks better other than having the dark lines overpowered the drawings. Not sure if Layout have the ability to set linework hierarchy. Looks like SU also decided to move toward to more 'BIM' oriented instead of wanting to be a easy hands on software. Would be interesting if they further release some features like clash detection etc.

I bought the new Sketchup 2024 and it is very good! . BUT! - if someone had any plugins on earlier versions of SU, these plugins will usually no longer work in the new version of SU 2024 and you have to pay (if you have paid plugins) and install them again. The new version of SU 2024 is very sensitive to old plugins and rejects them. you only need to install plugins that are adapted to SU 2024, otherwise they will not work. (there are some plugins that still work with SU 2024, but there are very few of them, such as 1001bit) which is a pity.

Hi, why don't they correct the problem that appeared in 2023 with trimming of solids? You can not trim multiple solids with a first one as in 2022 version, it s so time consuming
@Thesketchupessentials7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what the specific issue is - I don't think you've ever been able to trim multiple solids at once unless you group all the solid geometry into a single solid group and trim that way
@dinuionescu17797 ай бұрын
@@Thesketchupessentials In 2022 version if you pick the first object and trim one by one the other objects, you don t have to enter trimming command for every trimmed object ( the first object remains active as the cutting one). In 2023 and 2024 after you trim one time it exits command, you have to enter trim command again, and so on. Let s say we have a main beam and 10 perpendicular secondary beams on the main one, intersecting it. Please try to trim the 10 beams in 2022 version and then in 2024, the time is at least double.

How is rewriting the entire graphical engine for significantly better performance "half assed developing"? And you ALWAYS have to update plugins, with ANY new program release unless they literally change nothing
@fadilvi7 ай бұрын
@@Thesketchupessentials let see...qt development already years back , and i believe most of those graphical engine depends on qt, and it only released today? And while we know how sketchup work and depends on plugins , why not integrated it using their own way,like pull push support group, i believe it can be done easily, and talk about dark ui I believe its now part of daily necessity for designer who spend hours in front of monitor, it can integrated easily with qt , sketchup can do xref -ing but its not featured, layout save is still slow because the file size is the same or bigger than sketchup files..its need to be resolved... basically 'the half assed work' that i mean is this kind of thing. Thats way i called it half assed work. You look at blender , theres always change n new tool, but you look at sketchup from su-6 to 2024, its all almost same. Still need many plugins to work efficiently. Sketchup used in wide variety of field, but it never adapt to the need of those who work with it ,n only support minimal tools. Do all my plugins break again? They arent designed for 2024 I used software 30 years ago that let you move vertices, but not sketchup!
@Thesketchupessentials6 ай бұрын
Depends on the plugins you're using and if they're compatible, if the developer needs to update them so they work, etc. This is pretty normal across all 3D software, not limited to SketchUp. As to moving vertices, SketchUp isn't really built around modeling with vertices, but rather with faces. That was kind of the original "point" of SketchUp was to simplify modeling to the point that you drew a face, and extruded it. While it might preclude some more advanced modeling, it also makes SketchUp significantly easier for beginners to use as opposed to something like Blender.
@CStoph19796 ай бұрын
@@Thesketchupessentials Totally disagree. Sketchup makes outside developers create tools for free, that break every update and require you to pay again to get them. Simple things like moving vertexes, you have to pay extra for. And pay every time sketchup updates. What other 3d software gives you a version that forces outside developers to make it useable? Pretty normal? Across ALL 3d software? LOL 20+ years ago, every 3d software was full featured, let you move vertices, etc... Sketchup - NOT EVEN FUCKING CLOSE
@Thesketchupessentials6 ай бұрын
@@CStoph1979 You're conflating two different statements. Plugins/extensions break sometimes across pretty much all 3D software when new versions are rolled out. This happens with SketchUp new releases, Blender new releases, Rhino new releases. It's something that will ALWAYS happen on platforms that allow third party add-ons, because the main software update usually precedes those developers being able to update their extensions, so things break. As to the rest of your comments (vertex editing, etc) - like I said, SketchUp is designed to model in a different way. It might work for you, it might not. If it doesn't, you can use something else. That's the benefit of having other options, and I encourage everyone to find the 3D software that meets their needs. Good luck!
@CStoph19796 ай бұрын
@@Thesketchupessentials You guys purposefully make your software crap so other people have to make it useful for you, for free! Then update every 2 years, cant even add a dark mode, and all the plugins break, and you have to hope there is a new version when many times there are not. Your software is so bad that you cant even give your users the ability to move vertices without paying extra every update. There is no other software out there that gives its users so little. 3d MAX, LIGHTWAVE, MAYA, every 3d software until you guys came out had basic functions you cant seem to add. Blender is feature filled. You are featureless. And blender is FREE! I never knew it was a feature to give your users less. I guess that comes from being created by google.
@CStoph19796 ай бұрын
@@Thesketchupessentials Actually, its complete shit that your software has the ability to move vertices, yet you keep that feature out of your software, and force someone to write the code for you, then force your users to pay for it every two years when you release another version.
