This is the best tutorials of UE5 for Architecture you really renewed my hope. I once gave up once gave up thinking the UE5 is difficult to learn. Hoping to see more of these tutorials soon thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Maaan i was curious about how to use a piece of creation from sketchup looked for a tutorial and I’ve find one of the most usefully unreal tutorials that kinda clarify more about materials loved keep the good work!

Hey, on flipping faces you can often just flip one to the correct orientation and then right click that same face and select orient faces, and it’ll flip all the others that are facing the wrong way to match.

Another thing you can do is go into modelling mode and box project everything to set the UVs at 100x100x100 so that the geometry is considered 1m2 of texture space per 1m2 of actual surface, that way if you say bring in a Quixel material that’s 2m x 2m you know to just hit 0.5 in the materials tiling. And if you know you’re going to be using a lot of 2m x 2m materials you could just box project at 200 units instead.

It’s kinda frustrating that the size of the faces doesn’t translate through Datasmith in the first place imo.

One more comment, and I’ve only seen one KZbinr (Saeed) show this, but he managed to enable something in 5.3 called “Nanite Tessellation” which is Epic’s upcoming solution to displacement, it looks like parallax occlusion mapping but it’s something else. You just add your displacement map it and it ‘works’. So we have that to look forward to. It looks to be working with landscapes also.

One more more comment, if your making your own materials you can just use an instance of the Quixel master material and pop your own textures in and that way you’ll have all the controls like normal strength etc

I run into a lot of materials being renamed mat1, mat2 etc when exporting to UE. Have you experienced this? And if so, how do you compensate? When working with DataPrep & a Material Replacement DataTable this can be a pain.

How do you manage to fix the default model or the 2d male person that appears to be in black material inside unreal engine? Great tutorial btw. thanks

So when you import Sketchup materials using Datasmith, are they just placeholders in Unreal? I don't see the options to re-link roughness/bump/metalness when I try to alter the material in Unreal and it seems to make sense to have to recreate them using your workflow. Am I missing something?
