Can you speak 3 languages then? English, Malaysian and a Chinese language? That’s really cool if so. Even 2 languages is cool. I’m Scottish but I moved to New Zealand as a kid but both countries are English speaking countries so I only know English. I mean, we got Scots in Scotland but like it’s very similar to English and like no one can really speak it anyway. I only know a few Scots words.
@skittleyrealm27952 жыл бұрын
@@rachelcookie321 yes I can! I would say most Chinese Malaysians can speak all 3 (English, Malay and Mandarin) to some degree of fluency. Some can even speak other Chinese dialects like Hokkien, Cantonese etc. For me, English is my strongest language, followed by Mandarin and Malay :)

Interesting that Tamil words for ship and hat is similar to Indonesian/Malay words too! Ship is Kapal and hat is topi. Surya also refers to sunlight actually.
@marsha_pro21333 жыл бұрын
bahasa melayu was actually developed from sanskrit, which is a language used in a part of india back then. that’s why we have some words that are similar. Also if i’m not wrong, the modern malay now was also mixed with the arab language. e.g. monday, tuesday in malay is 1,2 in arabic.
@jackjackyphantom88543 жыл бұрын
@@marsha_pro2133 Malay itself is part of the Austronesian language family with a lot of influence from ancient Indian languages through the import of Hinduism and Buddhism. Much like how Japanese language was greatly influenced by Chinese.
