Good thing this car guy knows his cars, the Monte Carlo SS was reintroduced in 1983 and it most definitely has a 3 speed auto, without looking it up I'm pretty sure it's a 200 metric. As far as an LS swap, well it's cliche' nowadays but if anything needs an LS swap it's this car, 165 HP!
@DarthKlipsch8 жыл бұрын
The only time the monte SS came with a 350 was the mexican Monte Carlo. Came with different wheels and a hurst 4 speed manual. I believe it was only offered in 84 as well.

Klasse Act I went fishing for info and the fact is they came with a the 350trans before 85. Go figure the Hrust Olds and 442 Cutlass always had the 2004r. But the MCss never came with the 8.5 rear either. I got a 86 442 in the works. Guess you learn something new every day.

I bought one of the first two SS Monte Carlos made IN 1983 not ‘84. Also,this is not the SS factory interior as it came from the factory. ‘83/84 had blue seats with white trim and SS embroidered on the headrests. Door panels were two tone as well. It was very common for these to be stolen and stripped-then put back together with standard Monte Carlo interior pieces-such as you see in this video.

I liked the Monte Carlo aero coupe more. But I'm remembering it from the prospective of a 10 year old kid. But Pontiac got saddled with THE UGLY version of the G-body coupe, the 1986 "Grand Prix 2+2". They tried to put a Firebird's rear glass on the G-body with a front end that just did not work with the rest of the car. IT also wrecked the cars usability not just the looks.

I always thought as a grade schooler they were pretty cool, and was always curious about them. The Grand Nash was the hot ticket (and still is), but the Monte I felt was a bit under appreciated... But alas no Buick turbo 6. The 305 was hardy blood warming in comparison. At this point given the nice suspension in it and that 80's vibe it puts out, I think a mild LT1 would be just the ticket - just a little more power to give that shove into the seat. I know, I'm likely to get flamed out on that. No, there's nothing wrong with an LS1 swap and that would be pretty cool as well. But a mild second gen LT1 somehow seems more fitting.

My 84 SS looks like this one. It's factory original except for new springs and KYB shocks. It's not a powerhouse, but it does handle really well. It takes turns flat, and fast, it will surprise you as to how well it handles. A 383 with an overdrive transmission would really wake this car up.

@domdrty8 жыл бұрын
1983 was the first year of the 4th Gen SS. if his 305 is stock it's only putting out about 160 HP, and the stock trans does not have overdrive. the 200r4 wasn't offered until 1985 or 1986. the gbody frame is super flimsy so upgraded suspension components will only do so much. It's a really nice car.

I had this cars twin. the 305 is H.O. predating the later vortec series. the automatic has a little extra lockup around 80mph. One of gm's prophetic machines, as 5 liters +/- took over. I liked this car enough to grab at a 1996 pickup with the last 305...multiport injected instead. A holley wakes up the low end, but burning tires everywhere. the stock rochester had to go in mine.
