A FWD car is very light in the rear, because there is no driveshaft, diff or side shafts there. So you would add a wing to help with high speed cornering stability. If you are going to judge whether a car needs a wing based on the driving wheels, then a rwd/awd car needs a wing even less. Don't tell me a wing helps a rwd car with acceleration/traction off the line - don't be silly. It's on there for high speed stability - same as it would on a fwd car. Or you just like the look of the wing, and put it on, because it is your car, and you can do whatever you want to it.
@otagogold22367 жыл бұрын
FerritZA exactly, couldn't have said it better myself sir
@toastymcgeee1247 жыл бұрын
Wow you know I never that about that. You have a very good point on justifying a rear wing on a fwd car. That wing is a little much for me though, wee bit overkill. Something smaller would makes this car perfect for me atleast

I'm REALLY late to this video, but I wanted to comment on Matt's closing thoughts about the Accord itself. For a while, I was daily driving a 1997 Accord LX and the main thing about that car is that it does everything you *need* it to do, and it doesn't do anything wrong. It won't set your pants on fire, but it also won't ever let you down. That generation of Accord is an absolute legend in its own right.

all the people complaining that fwd and doesn't need a spoiler go and watch the espirit ek9 civic 500hp at tsukuba does a lap with and a lap without the wing and it makes a huge difference and they find it difficult taking corners at high speeds without the wing because the back end becomes unstable so i think its allready been proven that a wing on even a fwd car helps massively

@pablopicaso83747 жыл бұрын
J30a5 Accord i would love to know how you plan to get 2x the stock power on a F23 without using boost. You can only throw 5-7 psi at the motor before ring/piston failure. Highest power I've seen someone get out of them is 450. Not to mention pistons and rods are like 1200 alone since Crower is the only people that make rods for this car and they are 700. Its a great motor dont get me wrong I own two of them one at 322k and one at 188k but what you are saying is false. (altough the slevees will hold 500hp)

Also Matt, these are 2800-3100lbs from factory. As someone building one, I compare this car to the modern Civic Si because the JDM variant comes with the H22 motor instead and made 190-200hp to the crank back in the day. That was the most popular swap, but now with boost tech coming a long way, something like this is becoming the way to go. I'm workin on it! Glad you enjoy the car! They are super under appreciated and you can find them in very nice condition for far less than the other more popular 90's Civics and Integras :D

I usually hate Hondas, but this is a nice classic Accord. Great chassis and timeless looks. Honda used to make great cars...even though I would never have one, there is no doubt they were good. BTW yes FWD cars do need wings sometimes, depending on the build, due to no weight being over the rear wheels. Look at vintage BTCC Honda Accords driven by David Leslie, Gabrielli Tarquini, etc. great drivers when properly set up. Oh and if a new tire can cause rub, the car suspension is STILL not set up properly. Give it some travel geez.
@chrismar85987 жыл бұрын
Has plenty of travel, it's rubbing because I shoe-horned in a 255/40/17 square setup. Rubbing has since been fixed. Car was inspired by the BTCC/JTCC accords, hence the Mugen JTCC front lip :)

@WhiteCharisma7 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. Even modern Honda's are ditching it. Turbo's have won the war and many Honda enthusiasts including myself are sad to admit it, but currently a full NA build will still lose to a boosted setup on and off a track. Turbo technology really stepped up and is far more reliable than a NA build. Not to mention better fuel economy....
@TheBb6prelude7 жыл бұрын
WhiteCharisma yes it does and one of the single cam f22 also has vtec. You might be confusing the fact that it's not dual cam with not having vtec. As far as turbo Hondas under 300 wheel hp those are easy to beat in a NA Honda build. My hatch was beating boosted cars all day anywhere from high 200s low 300s wheel.
@TheBb6prelude7 жыл бұрын
WhiteCharisma as far as old NA vs old turbo setups the NA is way more reliable. My motor has been heavily abused for over 4 years with zero motor issues I mean heavily abused.
@WhiteCharisma7 жыл бұрын
Oh these models come with VTEC it's just not the usual DOHC one. It's eco-VTEC and is made for fuel economy. I know what you mean, but I've been in enough to realize the gap in reliability Turbo builds have over NA now. It's an "every day driver" problem not so much a "go fast" problem. I'm saying this really applies to Accord builds since they aren't light to begin with. A V6 swap or Turbo is now the way to go.

when you drive fast in a fwd car the back end will feel very loose beacouse there is no weight over there so the wing helps that i could be wrong but i think its making a lot of sense

there's way too many variables to say that it's "pointless", it depends on the weight distribution, sometimes suspension geometry, et cetera. i'm just gonna assume that it's functional since it looks way too goofy to be just for show.

i love these models of accords. this build is dope!

This car would be a damn near perfect build if it didn't have that ridiculous wing...

The wing has function tho and personally I think it looks good

My first car was a 94 accord.....transmission went out a week after I bought it, fixed it and than the AC went out and the windows got stuck in the up position. This was no fun in south Texas during the summer. It broke down 4 times in the 6 months that I owned it. Pushed it home multiple times. After everything that damn car put me through, I loved it

Getting time to get new paint on my 94 Accord. I have body rust around the wheel wells to repair and the original "champagne" paint is starting to get spots elsewhere on the car. Nice to see a black exterior goes fairly well with the tan/beige interior.

It’s hard to be original with a Honda build at this point but this is pretty unique. These cars are a great size. My integra feels just a tad small but these are just right.

I've got a '98 Accord LXi (DX for you in the US) sedan with an F23A5 non-VTEC and despite the lack of VTEC, it's still a blast to drive. It's got the 5 speed, and that's what makes it so fun. Even the 2.3 non-VTEC engine loves to rev. With a redline of about 6-7k, it sure does love to rev, even if (due to only purchasing the car recently) I haven't taken it all the way to redline. My point is, even a base model single cam Honda without VTEC can be heaps of fun to drive. I plan on turbocharging the motor and maybe make about 250 HP, and when the F23A5 pops (as it'd got 195k miles), H22A swap it, or F23A1 (VTEC) swap it. I'd honestly be fine keeping it stock though, because even in stock form it's so much fun to drive, compared to mom's boring automatic compact crossover.

Good to see some love for the 5th gen Accord around today. Seriously underappreciated cars, even while stock. Also, these cars weigh between 2800 and 3300 lbs stock, since you asked.
