Glad he addressed the "greater than the sum of its parts" point. When reading through the spec sheet I was having a really hard time placing the value proposition of this car over lots of other options. You're getting Fiesta ST power, in a heavier, larger car -- and that was with 8 year old engine tech and $6k less MSRP. For close to the money you could get a Veloster N for (with significantly more power). But the fit and finish component of the interior looks like it would bring you away from a (very lightly) used Fiesta/Focus ST and the interior space is the winning component over a 3 door+hatch (the N) if you have kiddos or actually need the back seat regularly. Pair that with good inputs -- which are highly underrated and can't really be expressed on paper -- and it's a little easier to get over the bland exterior styling. If Mazda had figured out how to deliver a manual in the 3 Turbo, I would have loved to see a comparison between these two, but the manual will win over the enthusiasts 9/10, so it's a pretty moot comparison IMO.
@doctorferdinand10032 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm struggling between this and an Elantra N. The N has that big power advantage, but the overall quality is much better in the Civic. Also, the price point isn't as close as you may think, the Velsoter N starts at $5k more than the Civic Si. I would imagine the Elantra is probably going to be even more than the Veloster. Haven't had the chance to drive either yet, but Honda always delivers on feedback and engagement, not sure if the Hyundais are there yet, but interesting comparison.
@mattdock73462 жыл бұрын
@@doctorferdinand1003 I believe I just saw starting prices for the Elantra N in motortrend that actually undercut the Veloster N if you take both with the manual. But the $5k difference feels negligible at this price point… most of these will be financed I’m sure and $5k over even a 60 month loan is only $80-ish more per month. And most people of for 72-84 month loans now. For 75 more horsepower and a much more driving focused car, that doesn’t sound like a stretch price wise. To put it another way, it’s a roughly 18% overall price increase for 38% more power. Those numbers make a strong case for the Hyundai’s to me. I think it will come down to which is more important for you, the everyday driving convenience of the backseat and interior fit or the performance.

Camaro, Mustang, and even the Challenger all start at 28K for much higher performance. Hatchbacks: Golf GTI offers better performance for just a little bit more money. Hyundai Veloster N Smokes this for a bit more. Sedans: Forte GT: $24,000 with 200hp and a 8 speed DCT. Buick Regal Sportback is a surprisingly quick sedan for the price. Subaru WRX is $28k. Crossovers: Hyundai Kona I'm not saying the civic SI is no good, as it has a nice interior and I'm sure it's comfortable, but IMO there are much better "Performance" bargains out there.

I don't think you can compare coupes with this. They're completely different use cases and segments. Agree the Veloster N would be a stronger pick if you're interested in pure performance per dollar, but there are lots of other compromises there -- from styling to interior quality to shift quality. (I'd buy the N over this, but I don't need a backseat and like the function over form element of the car in general). The Forte GT falls on its face compared to this in component quality... it doesn't even live up to the previous gen Civic interior and build quality. The WRX is a pig (sorry I said it) and most every comparison will tell you it feels dead by comparison to this, with less steering, shifter, and road feel. Plus, boxer motors blow up long before a Honda will.
@ghostrida32 жыл бұрын
@@mattdock7346 the wrx weight is heavy but normal by 2021 standards. It Is much faster than the si and its AWD. The civic on the other hand is FWD and slow. If it was 15k it would make more sense. If you don't need a backseat why even mess with any of this garbage. A new 370z costs the same as well as the mustang and will destroy this in every category.

When you added in your impressions of not only the car's handling but its suspension, it gave me a great idea of how the new Si handles on a nice twisty road. I've been considering a new Si, but will probably wait until this fall to buy one, or something else. Meanwhile I'll enjoy my ND Miata one last summer before I sell or trade it for a new car.

Horsepower is under-rated by 22 and torque as well. HONDATA GOT 221hp on their dyno. Can't wait for their tune. A Hondata tune and bumping the limiter to say maybe 6800 or so, will make it complete along with a set of ENKEI RPF1 18x9.5's and 265/35/18 R888s! I wouldn't mind seeing a proper DCT either because of it being a daily when you live in LA or some high traffic areas.
