As much as I adore the artwork and magic system, what really gets me about this project is the names. Words like “Ornata” and “Myriadism” strike this perfect balance of utilizing existing language to sound familiar and inform the audience of their meaning, while still sounding natural and realistic instead of artificial and forced. Loved the video, looking forward to whatever comes next!

The gold in an Ornata's body being so potently charged surely has to do with how magic starts with life-energy, no? I mean, it's been inside the Ornata since birth, passively absorbing just a _little_ life energy off the top 24/7! In fact, that would explain the thinner/grey hair and deep scars turning golden. Even goldblight could be explained as the gold getting "overcharged" after so long being constantly suffused with life energy, having to grow to fit more.
@TheSmolBrit5 ай бұрын
Very astute! You sound just like an in-universe scholar.

@@TheSmolBrit Thanks! I was going to go to university for cellular biology and medicine, but decided last minute that programming was more my thing -- This project is super interesting to me on the former front - and the programmer in me sees all the pretty art and goes "man I wish I could do that" lol I recently did some more thinking on the subject, and I think the golden scarring may have an explanation that ties nicely into my goldblight hypothesis. To make a few assumptions - 1. Since blood cells are created primarily in bone marrow, and an Ornata's golden bones seem to be directly analogous to regular bones, there are likely golden versions of the various blood cells in all Ornata bloodstreams - just microscopic flecks of gold going about their blood cell-analog business. 2. When someone is healing from an injury, their body increases blood flow to the affected area - I'd assume an Ornata's body would do the exact same. 3. Finally, healing surely has a lot of life-energy involved when compared to the ambient levels in other areas of an otherwise healthy body. I don't think anyone would doubt that. With all those puzzle pieces on the table, it stands to reason that wounds would collect these golden flecks as the blood delivers nutrients to the damaged tissues in order to help with repairs. The higher amount of life energy may even act like a very weak gold magnet, preventing them from carrying on with the rest of bloodflow. As the wound gathers gold, the higher levels of ambient life energy in the area over a long period might stimulate the gold to form a sort of protective coating over the scar. It would also make sense that an Ornata's wounds likely close a tiny bit faster because of this - though the cost in life energy likely slows down the overall healing process a bit. To tie all that into my prior goldblight hypothesis - as the malignant bones grow, it would damage tissues. This would result in the Ornata's body trying to heal those tissues, and in turn further fueling the destruction. I can imagine scholars in the not-so-distant future of Gold and Bone putting these pieces together, and producing a form of alchemical medicine that can recreate that protective barrier to quickly staunch bleeding - at least temporarily. Like a magical band-aid!
@zaccoogle37195 ай бұрын
@@TheKd8lvtas an absolutely leman, the process you hypothesized for goldblight sounds similar to the formation of cancer which is interesting considering most the chemicals used in awakening would probably be considered carcinogenic or at least incredibly harmful to the human body. Also i don’t see a concrete reason that the gold bones would create gold blood cells. i think that’d lead to deep scars even on parts of the body distant from the natural gold to develop these gold plated scars which we haven’t seen (yet).

I really like the fact that sometimes the golden pigments on the skin don't reflect the true gold quantity/area of the skeleton below and can imagine a lot of stories revolving around people lying about having more gold in their bones because of the pigmented area or people assumed to have less gold in their bones based on the size of the pigmented area. Question? Are elemental magics possible in aome ornata? Such as someone with gold at their fingertips being able to summon flames, gold at their throats being able to steal the breath from others, or ornata with bare golden feet being able to cause quakes or ride the very stone as if it were a steed? My mind is positivly buzzing with ideas. A person with a golden jaw bone might be able to not be affected by poisons, or be able to speak enchanting persuasive words. Is there such a thing as a non-human ornata? And if there were an animal ornata would that effect the animal's behavior/appearance? I can imagine a nobleman spending a fortune to acquire a horse with a golden hoof and the uncanny ability to walk on water. Maybe a village has been terrorized by a curiously intelligent murder of crows led by a crow with golden eyes and the power to put project its thoughts directly into the minds of others. Maybe in a far flung corner of the world, a cult worships a golden clawed lion that can make crops grow on a whim, so long as the lion is well fed and pampered. Or maybe those all just rumors spread by bored peasants who have had too much ale. After all, how can a beast be able to wield magic without an engraving and what kind of madman alchemist would give that kind of power just to see what would happen? Surely the pursuit of knowledge and power wouldn't go that far.

I have to admit, a character formed in my head while watching this video. No name, only a visual. A man who walks a full body an head taller than the people around him. His limbs lengthened to match, and on the skin of his limbs and his spine, there is not a patch of golden skin, but a thin trace line of it, revealing that his native gold spirals in thin lines around all of the longer bones in his body, including his ribs. He does not seem terribly bothered by being stared at, his face stoic as he carries a cannon across his shoulders, under the watchful eye of a man of distinct military decoration who watches him like a hawk while resting a hand on the pommel of an especially thin sword.
@ReblazeGaming5 ай бұрын
Is that an Ornata soldier being watched by a Warden accompanying them?
@asimovstarling88065 ай бұрын
@@ReblazeGaming That was the idea. An ornata whose native gold spirals in thin lines around all of the long bones in their skeleton, with an innate ability that reinforces them in such a way as to allow them to keep moving without being crushed under the sheer weight of their own stature, being followed and watched by a warden who while short even to a normal person, is exceptionally skilled with a thin blade and so might be perfectly fit to dispatch a giant.
@ReblazeGaming5 ай бұрын
@@asimovstarling8806 It was really well written, how'd you learn to write like that? Also how tall do you reckon he is? Also why is he so tall? Is that just his ability and stature working together? If the ornata are given their gold by gods or something, did the gods give him that gold placement so that when activated he could walk easily?
@asimovstarling88065 ай бұрын
@@ReblazeGaming Before we go too deep into conversation on this, I would like to point out I am merely a fan, not connected to the artist at all in any way. just a viewer inspired by her content. But to answer your question, above a certain size the human body gives out, the joints can't bear the strain an the heart gives out too early, shortening the lifespan dramatically. From the sizes in my mind he was more than double what a normal human adult can reach without disease, which would put him at a full average adult males height above the tallest recorded human giant in history. That would put him at 14ft, which explains he carries a cannon meant to fire 10 pound balls across his shoulders with only one arm to steady it. Our bones can handle much more strain than what we put on them. His native gold may give him an ability that ties directly to his ability to recover from internal damage, considering how wide spread it is around his body. At such a size, he could serve as many things, from a walking billboard to a living piece of construction equipment, but in relation to his gift, if the gifts are really placed there by gods, then his gift could be there not only to facilitate his continued life at such a size, but also to make his back better able to shoulder terrible burdens, or perhaps, to protect others. Those of great size and stoic disposition often happen to have great physical strength in addition to mental fortitude, but these things are not always linked. Hopefully some of this can inspire or perhaps amuse the artist who inspired me. That is the best I can hope for really. The greatest gift I can give, one artist to another, is inspiration.

Hm, enchantments require vitae, will, and gold. Perhaps the enchantments within Ornata are so powerful due to the abundance of these? Vitae requires living things to be made, and here the enchantment is _inside_ of a living thing. Will is imbued by the enchanters, but perhaps the will of the Ornata can add to this? And gold is generally used sparingly, so perhaps having an entire patch of skeleton worth of gold make it stronger also Or I'm just wrong, which - let's be real - is more likely, but it's still interesting to think about 🤔

Ngl, as a ttrpg nerd i am getting thoughts of how the setting could be used for ttrpgs... i guess a system similar to Witcher ttrpg could work. Having ornata, alchemist, etc. as professions (in Witcher ttrpg you can have only one profession, but, since it's level-less and skill-based game, you can have a sorcerer who is good at melee - professions also have 3 simple profession-exclusive skill trees, each having 3 special abilities which can be improved) Also, the whole "each ornata has a specific magic type in them" reminds of Dorohedoro (each mage has one type of magic - mushroom magic for example) or Warhammer Fantasy a bit (human wizards can operate only one of the eight winds of magic without their already dangerous magic becoming even more dangerous - there is snagerous mixed wind magic and safer, but weak, hedge witch magic, both hated by human empire)
