Of all the Star Wars locations, I wouldn't have thought of Mos Eisley (or anywhere on Tatooine for that matter) for anything Christmas but that's part of what made this fun to watch. As someone who builds and paints miniatures and dioramas, I use that same type of sand but I always paints mine so color and sparkliness aren't so much of a problem. If you're ever concerned about the sand sticking after the glue dries, you can spray a coat of isopropyl alcohol over the sand then a coat of very watered down pva glue; the alcohol will break the surface tension of the water used for thinning the glue and really let it seep down into the sand, locking it into place very securely.

Foam is such a good tool! I used it to create my own mandalorian helmet, and it's pretty cool if I do say so myself!

I use the foam board insulation on my build. I did however utilize some EVA foam to make a door frame for one of the buildings, I wasn’t sure what kind of shape I wanted so using foam allowed me to make my curves at will and on the fly.

Great looking prop! I've got another tip to add sand (stolen from model railroading) -- sprinkle sand where you want it on your model and then use an eyedropper (or equivalent) to drop a 50/50 mix of elmer's glue and water. The water will evaporate and the glue dries clear -- best way I've placed sand (or grass or any small particles) on a model.

I’m not sure if anyone already said this but another way to apply the sand is to brush on some glue first with a paintbrush then sprinkle sand until your satisfied with the result and shake excess off. when my dad and I worked on his train layout we sprayed down diluted elmer's glue on the surface and sprinkled the grass/dirt/gravel over it. model railroad sand would also be a bit less yellow

Building miniatures is so much fun! This totally blew me away because of the use of the foam for the base structure of the building. I normally use artist foam core board, but I see some great possibilities by using the foam! All the details just really make this work, as well as the touch of Christmas! Great build, would love to see you tackle some star wars legion models, its nice to see how someone from a different hobby would tackle minis. For the sand, nothing stopping you from painting over it with your prefered shade of beige. I really like tamiya mat colors, they are alcohol based acrylics, fairly easy to work with. Oil diluted with mineral spirits would make a decent wash that would dry mat as well. Merry Christmas!
