For beginner photographers I think a cheap flash is great way to go....the brand name flashes can be ridiculously priced.

@matthewkeisling27765 жыл бұрын
First, you look great in front of the camera. Second, regarding your mention that there is no flash data in you image file, that is likely because this flash has none of the fancy electronics which communicate with a camera body. The only communication is a base flash actuation. I have a few nicer aftermarket speedlights, but this price is tempting me to add to my kit.

I have the same flash and I like using it off camera in slave mode where my camera flash triggers the other flash that I have set up on a tripod good video.

I was impressed with this flash. I use it only for studio work, measuring the output with a flash meter. I will either use it remotely on S1, on camera at it's lowest setting to trigger other units or tethered to my camera with a series of Nikon SC17 flash cables.

@angelisone5 жыл бұрын
@@chris13435 It will work on all cameras that have a standard (basic hotshoe with Center Contact) hotshoe. But remember all full manual flashes do not have ATG Auto2 mode and surly no TTL modes. It is very cheap & can do the works.

For a strobist style photographer or learning lighting techniques these are awesome. They wont last like a sunpak, nikon or canon but at this price point they are well worth it!

Elio Marino your message is pretty recent, so you may have found that the Amazon Basics flash is not currently available. If you search Amazon, or other sellers, there are a handful of flashes in the $30 range. Some might even have more features, and an LCD screen with more controls. Give one a try!
@MrLeadbelly19664 жыл бұрын
I just bought one of these (although not the Amazon brand). I put it on my Sony a77 mkII & set the camera to full Auto Mode. I also used my Sony Alpha 2.8 30mm full auto lens. I started taking shots in my house with the flash in different configurations (it stayed mounted on the camera the whole time). I shot direct flash & bounce flash (white ceiling). Every single frame showed proper exposure, not one bad photo. My camera's flash pops up in full Auto Mode, which blocked the outboard flash's front sensor, but that didn't seem to matter at all. I think my a77 mkII was communicating with the new flash...

Beautiful shots! Questions: how would you determine the aperture and the flash output when you use the manual mode ? Your help is appreciated! Thanks!
@matthewkeisling27765 жыл бұрын
Richard Ong this can be a little tricky, and some trial and error will likely be needed. The flash unit should have a Guide number, which related to its light output. With that guide number, you can calculate a flash-to-subject distance, based on the ISO and f/stop used. Look online for how to calculate this.

Me and my Nikon D500 for camera’s without a built-in flash, you would either need two flashes, one on the hot shoe and the other off-camera, or use a PC or hot shoe sync cord from camera to flash. A bit more of an investment, but if you have a D500, you can probably swing $60 for two flashes..?

Thanks for the video. I have a question about inexpensive flashes in general. If I have a more expensive primary flash with TTL and HSS (eg used for my key light) but also a cheaper flash that is missing TTL or HSS, will they still work properly together when controlled by a flash trigger (eg a Godox XPro)? If HSS allows my camera to have faster shutter speeds beyond its sync speed, is the secondary cheaper flash without HSS going to have any bearing whatsoever on my camera's sync speed since it's not operating as my main flash?

can this work on Panasonic cameras like the gh4

I don’t know specifically about Panasonic, but this should work with any camera which has a standard hot shoe. For example, Sony cameras have a proprietary hot shoe and thus require a flash dedicated just to Sony.

although a pure manual speedlight is all you need for taking good looking pictures in most lighting situations, if you know what to do, I would prefer to buy a matching second-hand TTL original speedlight from my camera manufacturer instead, so you can get a much better, more versatile and reliable speedlight for this prize range or only a bit higher by the way, that`s why better DSLRs and mirrorless cameras always have a built-in pop-up flash to trigger and control external manual or/and TTL speedlights via camera menu settings, so you don`t have to buy and mount an extra speedlight on camera IMO a beginner or an experienced hobby photographer should always check the second-hand market first to get a better original gear level or to get more usefull original gear for nearly the same prize range or especially if you`re on a budget, and a beginner hasn`t vasted so much money when looking for a new hobby - as one example, you can get a superb elder semiprofessional Nikon D700 full frame camera for the prize of a new consumer APS-C camera or even cheaper

it would be interesting to know how long it iten will last before it breaks. will you being using it over your current flash and vs the next priced one up the battery life, There is a fact that if you dont use a flash very often then why buy a very expensive one when this cheap one will do the job you have now done 4 product reviews wou;d it not have been better to have 1 day a week and review any photography item big or small as it has been said you are now amazonchick. and amazon in uk has over the two days for the usb battery charger block the 20 percent discount and offered in 2 different offer a 15 percent and that also meaning you dont get anything

@spacejuggernaut7 жыл бұрын
TheSnapChick Hi aka SnapChick I never stated it was sh-t , first it's bad idea to sell products that do not meet expectations. I stated in other words, in order to achieve this low cost, the manufacture had to find ways to cut cost by using lower grade components. ( K cars, Lada and Pony cars didn't last long for the same reason). First I've been an amateur photographer for ( say twice as old as your teeth). Back them flash were all manual, only had one power setting, you had to be creative to control the flash power, also you didn't see the results until hours later in the dark room. I still prefer manual flash. Second I'm an electronic engineer. For me these are the fantastic years in semiconductor and technology development.
@Gold4697 жыл бұрын
Take it with a grain of salt I appreciate the lower cost equipment. Unlike the others that will scream cr*p loud and long... not everyone can afford a 5,6,$700.00 or flash. I for one cannot. Like you said, you can by three or four of these before ever coming close to one someone won't scream cr*p about. thanx again
@stevestarr97697 жыл бұрын
If it is a piece of crap and breaks in six months, you'd buy a new one every 180 days for about 15 years to equal one top-of-the-line Nikon flash.
