I did a similar run as Vietnam a couple days ago. You start with 1 province capable of producing opium and there's several more around you. I was a bit stupid and went to war with China for more opium production territory which made them embargo me so I lost my primary market. If you just keep going south you can keep Qing friendly and keep 'em high :D

For those that don't know, Dust (Dost) mohammad at 2:41 was the general who later became the Regeant King, and then the King of the resurgent Afghani Kingdom. He single-handedly united the former core Afghan-Durrani empire territories and secured Afghanistan proper. The elders who elected him as regeant gave up on ousting him because of his modernization and reformist policies that rapidly militarized and modernized Afghanistan. He then went onto kick the Brits' teeth in, helped free Afghanistan from British occupation, and unite Afghanistan by finally conquering Herat where he declared war on Persia. Basically, the current Afghanistan came to be known as Afghanistan during his reign (minus the Sharia laws). Not quite as awesome as Ahmad Shah Durrani, but a badass nonetheless! Caspian Report has a great 3-part series on the Graveyard of Empires, highly recommend watching it!

Game changing information was when playing France that Eastern/Western mali states had opium. Became number 1 producer with two meh provinces since i maxed them. Also won every way since i rushed field hospitals and was the only one who could use em due to supply, and liberating east india company away from GB.

Hey been watching your vids and saw the mexico one from a couple days ago, you were complaining about running out of pops. Turns out you can basically never run outta pops if you switch to multiculturalism + No migration controls + Separation of church and state. This combo means everyone is accepted in your nation and so they all view it as a potential migration point, which means that as long as you have good standard of living in those areas you will have constant supply of immigrants ready to work in your factories, this plus constant expansion and reinvestment into construction results in easy 1Bil eco everytime

Laith to abolish sefdom you have to reduce landowners politcal strength, you can do this by enacting laws that reduce it such as changing from peasant conscription, hereditary bureaucrats or whatever else, I usaully pass about 5 or 6 laws weakening the sunni and landowners groups while strengthening industrialists and intelligentsia before im able to abolish serfdom

pro tipp for laws: get your armed forces in instead of rural folk, enact army, police and internal stuff so the landowners are less powerful and then abolish serfdom... also: higher legitimacy and EXCESS AUTHORITY reduce enactment time for laws................ dont spend it all on roads. additionally: a customs union is bad because russia gets opium... for free

No you dont really control them. just assign them to a front, upgrade them, appoint generals and stuff like that. But in this game it sort of makes sense because even in a war you are most likely busy growing your economy or just preventing it from collapsing XD

I forgot that opium was in the "intoxicant" class of goods. Hence its demand peaks at relatively low standard of living and is present even for pops way down in the "starving" range, e.g. peasants. Add to this the inherently limited supply in the world, the "obsession" effect from its consumption, and limited competition from other goods -- liquor the AI doesn't produce because groceries themselves are an under-performing, nonessential industry, and tobacco that has to be imported from the New World with limited convoys -- and I think it's actually a good product to specialize in, memes aside.

Not only that but the army uses a lot of it for a very critical function which is field hospitals. Fighting someone with field hospitals when you don't have them is basically suicide unless you outnumber/outpower them significantly.

If the AI wasn't incompetent this would be impossible without taking the northern territories of the indian subcontinent since those opium farms can have up to 1200 farms. A paltry 60 is not gonna do anything. Ming also has two I think with a limit of 1k. Also you could have gone the extra mile and removed any other farms. Opium shares it's space with other plantation type resources such as wheat. Who needs grain?

There are a number of possible answers, none mutually exclusive: 1. He played it quite a lot in the period. 2. He played it with support from the forum or a direct source of information. 3. He intuits it because it follows familiar Paradox design. 4. He is not playing very well at all; he is editing well. The degree to which opium is pervasive isn't too difficult to achieve given the current version. Central Asia is a fairly safe playground and Afghanistan starts with some real advantages over its neighbors. Also, his knowledge of the game seems pretty standard for the amount of time we've had it.
