The real proof he loved her is that he always refused milions to write his autobiography because he said he know they want to know about Marilyn and that’s private! He respect her so much to keep their story private and I’ll be always grateful for that

Joe looks really good! Out of all Marilyn's lovers and husbands, I think he's the only one who genuinely loved and valued her, imperfections and all. If he beat her, and I don't know if he did, it was because his Italian Catholic sense of morality disapproved of her displaying the body he thought by marriage was his alone. And if he did, I'm sure that he regretted it. For many years he sent fresh flowers to her crypt, and he never married again. May these two star crossed lovers both rest in peace!
@DianaPhoenix
@DianaPhoenix 8 жыл бұрын
I did not disagree with this. I simply said that Joe was an Italian Catholic, probably of the old school, and therefore may have had a strict sense of morals. Nothing wrong with that statement or that fact.

diana. you can credit marilyn for getting joe to seek therapy after their divorce, she also got him to stop drinking and expand his interests outside baseball, including poetry. joe never stopped loving marilyn... he would help her get out of a mental hospital after splitting with arthur miller, and was concerned for her because ironically it was her who now was under the influence of drugs and people out to exploit her. i have no doubt they would have been great friends if she hadn't died. they both still respected each other a great deal.
@jean3tte
@jean3tte 7 жыл бұрын
...."because of his Italian Catholic sense of morality." Sorry not sorry, that doesn't excuse or even begin to explain why he would have potentially been abusive. A person can send as many flowers as they want but it doesn't mean that they didn't hurt someone both physically and mentally....

I don't know if the rumours about Joe beating marilyn all the time was true or not , but one thing that's DEFINITELY true , marilyn Monroe was the love of his life and he proved it by claiming her body when no one else did , arranged her funeral , blocked the press etc from going to her funeral and putting fresh flowers on her crypt. lovers till the end x .

He was a bad father, no doubt. A bad husband? Why else would MM divorce him? Did he beat her? Some people saw the bruises and heard the commotion... But he also saved MM from a psychiatric hospital in 1961, helped her by her last/only home in 1962, and he claimed her body when no one else did and took care of all the funeral arrangements and burial. Sometimes love is complicated.

He abused and tortured that poor woman physically and psychologically. He tried to control her career, read all her fan mail and hated her kissing other men in films. He tried to break into her house after they divorced. Joe Dimaggio was truly an awful human being, he never really loved Marilyn, he just wanted to control her. How can you do all of those horrible things to someone that you love?

@@charlottebruce979 there’s also no credible evidence to suggest he ever hit her either. He wasn’t the greatest man ever, but he certainly was no asshole either. He was a gentleman that represented the old America so can all of the diehard MM fans stop with staining his legacy simply because you’re all pissed of she died so young. MM was a beautiful soul that deserved so much more by the industry and the time she lived in. But her passing wasn’t Joes fault. Him blaming himself for a lot is enough

I feel they had a rocky start as she was a icon and had alot of male attention which did make him jealous and they had fights but he did change and as their history said also were to get back together...guess they are together now hope they both RIP.

It is so sad to see the most beautiful woman in the world silenced by tyrants who are dead and have not been punished Look at the sadness in her eyes! Look at her lack in the look Look how insecure it was and needed affection But once the powerful silenced the woman who was the greatest symbol in the world. She brought so much joy, she was exploited and there was no justice to condemn those who killed the most beautiful woman in the world. Very unfair! The only man who love Marilyn Monroe Joe DiMaggio that love until after death and its end of life

I never ever ever heard that he beet her anywhere....I heard he was jealous..He married her and suddenly did not understand why she didn't cook macaroni for him...I know he had his friends that would buy him dinner every where he went and he expected it..I know he was not so friendly with Micky Mantle and the other players(kind of like Jordan was). He was protective of his image and hated to see the players today making so much more...I read many negative things about him...Most could be attributed to the fact that he probably had a big ego and not a very likable personality. People liked Micky Mantle so when he was a cruel drunk he was defended..I don't think Joe was likable..But I don't believe he beat that woman. He really was the only one who loved her. Everyone else used her..

There are eyewitnesses to some abuse, bruises etc in NYC and other times. I believe he loved her but was a man of an era where that happened too frequently. When he lost her because of it, I think he deeply regretted his behavior. He was a good friend to her after her divorce from Arthur Miller and her family put him in charge of her funeral and burial as next of kin. She was too messed up at the end to make any decisions about remarriage and think she was pretty jaded about men and marriage, but loved him and was close to him before she died. He blamed Robert Kennedy and Frank Sinatra for introducing her to the Kennedys for the shape she was in at the time of her death.

Johnny Vander Meer's record is safe because nobody will ever throw 3 consecutive no-hitters. Or Fernando Tatis, nobody will ever hit 3 grand slams in the same inning.

At the beginning the quote, I'd heard some thing very similar, but it was from Ty Cobb about him self?

He isn't even a top 3 Yankee all time. Babe, Gehrig, Mantle, Jeter etc.. All better. Ted Williams was the greatest of Joe's era.

He looks like my father and he's shy like my father, if DiMaggio had kept his temper and Monroe had learnt to cook they would have stayed together. The love remained but they just couldn't be married.
