These are really good tips u have mentioned for the longevity of the bike and in outright terms , the riders.. I have kept my bike ,' The Kawasaki Aspire,,' for 18 years now using the same techniques.. I also use indicators a lot, something I see missing on ur rides either while turning or lane changing.. u ride almost 90% similar to me otherwise.. Keep up the good work.. u r one of the best v loggers I have seen.. kudos..

Excellent video. Keep up the work bro. One quick note regarding point 5 (Oil level), every bike manufacturer has a different way of checking the oil level. Like in Honda after cleaning the dipstick and again re-inserting, we should NOT screw back the dipstick all way in, it should just touch the engine case and removed to see the level.
@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks +Preetam, yes different manufacturers have different technic to check the oil level. Infact if you check this channel you will find one for the Dominar 400 which has no dipstick at all but uses sight glass. You are absolutely right about honda (no need to close the dipstick, just dip & remove to check.

hi there.. very well complied tips for basic maintenance 👍 do you think that in modern day bikes the quality of chain sprockets has gone down ? I feel so because nowadays in almost every bike the sprocket gets worn out soon despite regular maintenance.. those bikes launched in early 2000 used to run for 50-60k km without too much trouble from the chain sprockets.. another query.. which bike do you think has the best rear view mirror with the best visibility and lesser vibrations ?
@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
Hi +Monish M, well open chains requires a bit of more maintaince as they are exposed to all the environmental dirt, dust & water. Regular inspection, cleaning & lubrication helps in increasing the life of the chain. My RTR 180 is still running on stock chain sprocket at 50K km. One more thing is redlining or riding the bike at high RPMs in 1st & 2nd gear which puts a lot of strain on the chain-sprocket (especially chain links) as now a days bikes with higher power figures rapidly transmits a lot of torque at these gears due to quick acceleration. Even the Apache manual mentions this that always shifting at higher RPM in lower gears is not healthy for the transmission system. The Apache series 160/180/200 all shares the same mirror & it gives the best view with nil vibration. Infact I was really happy that they carried the same mirrors in the 200. I found Dominar, Karizma ZMR to have good visibility in their mirrors.
@monishm2128

I've heard people say TVS has better quality components but I'm yet to own one. Glad that TVS is offering such good quality. Regarding the mirror, even I found RTR series has good overall visibility and aesthetics too.

@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
Hi +Shubham Passi, 1st & 2nd gear shift around 2500-3500rpm, for the rest 3rd & 4th shift at 3500-4500rpm for efficient shifting. These figures are not for extracting performance but for regular, efficient & healthy shifts for your engine, clutch & gearbox. The rpm should be such that it should neither give jerk or lug the engine, spend some time riding/experimenting & you will master it. All the best & ride safe.

@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Arun, It depends a lot upon the riding condition and the riding style (to tight the chain). I usually follow 400-600km interval for chain lubrication and 1500-2000km interval for throughout cleaning. These intervals are shorter in the monsoons for obvious reasons.

thanks ... but why is it needed to make sure that diesel is completely wiped out before lubing? any serious issue may arise ?
@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
+Sudipta Kayal, I have given this reply to someone else (don't exactly remember), now quoting from my own reply: Chain cleaner is nothing but degreaser. Chemically diesel is one of the best degreaser with good solubility & lower volatile nature, which helps to drain the dirt deposits from the chain link. Flash point of diesel is high enough to make it safe to use it on chain (any ways we clean the residue) and it doesn't ignites with spark/static. Only thing that should of concern is the oxidation rate of a degreaser which very slow in case of diesel (but present) so it necessary that we wipe out the residue diesel. Being a strong degreaser it cleans thoroughly but we should always take care that latter the chain links are lubed propertly. Best example of this is my RTR 180's chain (o ring type) which is still going strong at close to 50k km on the odometer. However in cold countries where temperature reaches lower than 0 deg C, diesel fails to act as degreaser as it has a tendency to turn into jelly state when stored in open (non insulated/iso-thermal way). In such case citrus based degreaser are used. Hopefully this will clear your doubt.

@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
Hi +Shubham Passi, Will surely consider this as it will be interesting topic to discuss. For now I would say the right technique is to press/disengage the clutch - shift the gear - engage the clutch back (in that order). You can shift without using the clutch but that's a topic of debate if your bike doesn't comes with a quick shifter. Thanks for suggesting this Shubham, let's see how can we make it into a simplified video. Ride safe.

Hello I think the method you mentioned to check oil level is wrong. One isn't supposed to turn the dip stick, but only place it there and check the oil level. Correct me of I'm wrong
@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Hemanta, To screw in the dip stick or not depends upon what the manufacturer recommends for the particular model. For the RTR 200, TVS has instructed to thread in the dip stick to measure the oil level while if you check the instructions for the Jupiter then the dip stick does not requires to be thread in for oil level check 😊

Why to not apply clutch during braking? Applying clutch will disengage the power transmission. Thus it would help effective braking right?
@akshaysreelatha1369
@akshaysreelatha1369 5 жыл бұрын
Not exactly.... The power transmission is halted when you disengage the throttle itself. When this happens, the engine speed reduces, but the bike still has that speed (at that instant) and as the clutch is not applied, the engine has association with the tyres, which tries to slow down the tires (as the motion of tyres requires engine rate to go up, which is not happening). This is called engine breaking. But if you disengage the clutch (apply it), the engine system and tyre is parallel (not in association) so the damping effect of engine won't reach the tyres. So clutchless braking is more effective (brakes +engine breaking) than applying clutch and break (just breaking effect). Also, constant use of clutch can damage the clutch itself due to the rough usage. You can test it out in a downhill condition. Don't accelerate, try with and without holding the clutch and see the results.

bro in my Dominar if i dont press clutch lever while braking..it still keeps moving..like it has got auto throttle.so i feel that point is not for dominar..if yes suggest me how should i do it plz..
@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
Hi +Gundappa A, That's the anti stalling feature on the Dominar where the ECU compensates the rpm to keep the engine ON. The clutch thing explained in this video is applicable to all the bikes, infact this is one of the important thing that riders are taught at riding schools: 'Avoid pressing the clutch lever or riding with clutch lever pressed as this effects the performance, fuel efficiency & the health of your clutch'. The anti stalling function on the Dominar will work only when you try to come to a stop or when you are at speeds less than 10kmph. The auto throttle thing won't effect you braking at higher speeds (greater than 20kmph). Studies shows when you brake from high speeds an engaged clutch gives better braking (addition of engine braking: to some extend for slipper clutch) & stability to the rear wheels. In case of the Dominar, I feel it is an excellent machine due to all the electronic aids like the slipper clutch & ABS which makes this bike very forgiving even if you commit any mistake or last minute changes, so a lot of confidence is boosted in the rider. Ride safe.

Hi +Shubham Passi, Studies shows braking with clutch engaged leads to engine braking which isn't harmful for your bike unless you use half clutch or with low gears at high rpms. Press the clutch lever only when you are shifting or coming to stop. This is one of the important practice for safe riding which riding schools/books teach riders. So this is perfectly safe for you and your bike 👍 Ride safe.

I have a doubt, how comfortable is the rear seat of RTR200? Can I take my mom or wife as a pillion? will they be comfortable? Any modifications possible?

Would you suggest FZ25 over The RTR200, ??
@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 6 жыл бұрын
I would if it had the ABS and similar comfort as of the RTR 200 (FZ 25 is comfortable, here I am just comparing with RTR 200). If it is for city ride then the FZ 25 is surely more fun to ride. For touring the FZ has a bigger fuel tank and equally good fuel efficiency.

@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
If you are getting this amzn.to/2kIMGU7 motul chain spray, It would be safe to say that it would last around 8-10 applications, all depends upon how much you use. 1 can lasts good.

FZ ka engine kafi robust hai so it can take a lot of abuse but revving high at lower gears is not good for long term. 2-3 stretch se kuch nuksan nahi hoga 👍 don't worry ride safe 😊

The Sportztourer engine oil best for apache200
@thesportztourer
@thesportztourer 7 жыл бұрын
+Manash Sarkar I have been experimenting with a lot of semi & fully synthetic oils & I found these two oils to be really good: Motul 7100: amzn.to/2raQc8c Shell ultra: amzn.to/2pIpfr The shell ultra was used for my 2000+km Pune-Bangalore-Mumbai ride & the oil performed really well without any drop in level.

Hi +Ankur Rajpali, I am using Nitrogen in my tires & I found 28 in the front gives a spongy feeling (lack of air pressure) so with 30 I am confident in handling & braking on highways.

No amount of precaution and good practices would make such a crappy bike as Apache smooth and durable. I own that thing and it is the worst bike I have owned by far. Valves fall out of alignment every other day, frame breaks like it's made of wood, rust everywhere, cheap plastics all over, etc. If you can't afford a Japanese bike, please go for Bajaj. It's the lesser evil of the two Indian-made bikes.
