My neck instantly starts to tense up and stiffens up when I am anxious. I can immediately feel the tension in the back of the head and neck.

SM syndrome is another symptom-based diagnosis that merely describes symptoms without explaining a root cause. Degenerative discs in the neck are normal in upwards of 70% of people 30 and older. From my perspective, this is a similar neural circuit disorder.

I say there is no use of putting a disclaimer upon starting these helpful videos saying always show to a physician! Because physicians do not know a thing related to these types of difficulties. I have been showing to medical drs for years but have not find any relief only that my records file is getting bigger and bigger. What they only do is prescribe anti pain medication which is full of chemicals and not good for long term use. Then the next thing they do is put a hot pack on the neck and do some stretching. So i say watching a KZbin video like this is way better than wasting your time going to a medical professional.

My symptoms seem cervicogenic but haven't responded to PT focused on stretching and strengthening the neck muscles, and VOR exercises don't make me dizzy. But doing things like looking down to look where I'm mowing the lawn, washing and drying my hair and looking under the bed as examples all make the symptoms I experience 24/7 worse. Does this sound like actual cervicogenic dizziness or more of a PPPD? I've been living with this 24/7 for a year and a half.
@vanessae. Жыл бұрын
Hello Yonit, I have had several whiplash injuries and falls on my neck and my chronic 24/7 dizziness and neck pain started after a maneuver of the cervical spine by a chiropractor 9 months ago. I can not provoke my dizziness when I turn my head and it´s less when I´m in the car or moving/sports. But it´s always there sometimes more, sometimes less. So is it only cervigogenic dizziness when I turn my head and get symptoms? I am thinking constantly about my neck because every doctor I tell my story they believe it´s coming from my neck or cervical instability. My images are all fine but doctors really frightened me and I am really confused. Thank you so much.
@TheSteadyCoach Жыл бұрын
Cervical instability without any specific abnormality is just a description of what’s happening and is not a “cause” but rather an indication that your brain is not talking effectively to your neck. It’s kind of like going to the doctor and saying my hand hurts, and the doctor saying “Aha! That’s because you have Hurting Hand Syndrome.” Cervical instability that is medically unexplained- from what I’ve seen- is not the CAUSE of dizziness, rather a co-occurring issue that seems to be related to danger mode in the brain.

Looking down can be a challenge, and especially when you're looking down into a target that doesn't fully contrast with the environment (the colors are similar). The simplest way is to first practice looking down without trying to look at something specific. Do repetitions of this like you would an exercise. Then change the exercise and look down at specific things. Basically, you are practicing for real life.

Hello, really thank you thank you for this video. As usual, you are very pedagogical and clear in your explanations. I have had several whiplash in my life. but neck pain did not appear until after the dizziness. I therefore think I belong to the second category ... well I think so. It is true that I am afraid of doing the exercises with head movements because they increase the pain and dizziness ... but if I have understood correctly they are essential for progress? I am followed in France by an American chiropractor who comes from california and who is interested in neurology. I will talk to him about all this during the next meeting. you give me hope to be healed .... thank you with all my heart.
@TheSteadyCoach3 жыл бұрын
You are so welcome. I see this sometimes- the brain has a "pattern" for pain that it activates when it senses danger, even if the body part has healed. Going through the movements of your beck is essential for progress. But you don't have to rush, and you can start slowly and work your way up while taking breaks for breathing. The most important part is understanding that you won't cause yourself damage by moving.

@TheSteadyCoach3 жыл бұрын
@@jessicamaresca6123 the problem is that even MRIs and CT scans on people's necks can be "abnormal" but not cause symptoms. You did mention you have had examinations and that they have been normal- that is a good indication that the pain is not from the neck, rather it's from the brain. The other way you can tell is using the list I have in the course about neural circuit dizziness. It's under Step 2. If the pain follows those patterns, that is a very good sign it is not because the neck is damaged.

Had a MRI of neck and head. Everything came back ok. I do have back issues. C1-c2. But never had dizziness or headaches. I have headaches in the back of my head below skull but above neck just to the right of center. Some days I wake up and feel great. Some days I wake up and dizzy after a few minutes after getting up. I noticed caffeine, coffee in the morning makes it worse. Sometimes I get weird pressure headache in Back of head that makes symptoms worse. Also I noticed my left eye twitches sometimes. Been to specialist doctors say inner ear problem ect. Symptoms went away for a couple months about 3 weeks after initial injury. But this winter they have came back. Also noticed after a hard day of work or a workout in the gym symptoms are worse. I have crunching sound in my neck when I turn my head up and down or left and right. Ive done the head exercise with no help. I’m thinking prolotherapy injection is my only hope. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I will pay any amount of money. @@TheSteadyCoach I have so many conditions now at the age of sixty five it is hard to determine what is causing my constant dizziness. Prostate cancer (fatigue from radiation), emphysema and a brain injury (fell onto the back of my head when an inversion table broke.) I had some severe vertigo around 2014, then a steady stream of dizziness w nausea and occasional bad headaches. I've had inner ear infections for years prior to my vertigo and consequent testing w audiologist and neurologists. Vestibular migraine is the diagnosis from neurologists and hearing loss in both ears. They claim they have no way of imaging my inner ear due to its encasement in "bone", give me nortryptaline for TBI and vestibular disorder, but even after a year of vestibular PT I am still reeling and feel like I've lost control of my body in space. I have the sensation of falling endlessly, or my surroundings are moving and I can't focus with any peripheral input. I know you are helping countless people, sorry to take up so much time. I also have TMJ and cervical stenosis that both play a part in the inflammation of my inner ear... I have a history of trauma, including seeing atrocities as a child, friends murdered, it's ridiculous the number of pre- existing set ups for neurological fire alarms I have; PTSD and major depression in my "resume". I had a heart attack when I was 21, had a near-death experience that has sustained me through many trials... I have been in five car accidents and even a train wreck, an oil burner explosion and was thrown across the platform of a train station when a power line blew up over my head. The list goes on. Had and have many paranormal experiences both as a child and an adult, what presented as ghosts as a kid and countless premonitions after my near death journey to the "afterworld". I see a therapist every week, my family doctor, specialists. I feel like I can live with almost anything but the helplessness I go through when I have the falling through space attacks. The headaches and spinal pain I can manage with heat and stretching, simple endurance... any suggestions? I would be more than happy to pay for any advice or treatment you could give. And if I am too much to handle (!) I can continue to gain so much just watching your videos and putting the great exercises you give into practice. After a year of PT I am disappointed not to be better than this by now... I know I have more control than I give myself, it is just so much harder to deal with this while I also am healing from TBI and the fatigue of both radiation and covid and bronchitis at the same time. Your coaching videos are like rays of light coming from heaven. Thank you SO much. blane bostock

Totally. Common among PPPD clients in my experience. But inconsistent, like you described.

What if the dizziness is coming from both types? I have ventral cord impingement and stenosis due to a congenital neck fusion and the resulting arthritis. I’ve been formally diagnosed with cervical dizziness and headaches and so far vestibular rehab and vision rehab are going well (vestibular PT says my system is working fine.), but the dizziness remains. My brain MRI is absolutely perfect. I definitely have psychosocial and physical triggers, but I also fit the criteria of neural circuit dizziness. Can I use the neural circuit dizziness exercises in tandem with cervical dizziness exercises?

How about cervical foraminal stenosis/arthritis as a dizziness cause?
@TheSteadyCoach3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven, abnormalities on cervical MRIs (including stenosis and arthritis) are common (see this study on 1200 normal people, many of whom had abnormalities on MRIs but no symptoms: link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00586-012-2176-4). Despite this, cervicogenic dizziness does not seem to correlate with MRI abnormalities (it's a diagnosis of exclusion: link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s40945-017-0040-x and jnnp.bmj.com/content/72/5/587.short). Compression of the nerves CAN cause dizziness, like I mentioned in the video, but my experience is that cervicogenic dizziness is a complex biopsychosocial phenomenon (aka has stress components) even when there is a physical contribution.

Dear Dr. Yo, what if I get very dizzy after the exercises? I watched your other video with the training cards and also gut super dizzy. Should I keep practicing and it gets better with time? The diziness stayed for about an hour. I did the breathing afterwards...but still I get kind out of comfort zone. Is it to early to train? I am after car accident. Thank you.

Hello, Yonit. I love your videos, thank you for everything you do. I'm from Mexico. It's difficult to find doctors who know about PPPD here. I basically had to read a lot in the internet to find some information, I was desperate, but luckily I could find an otoneurologist who confirmed my doubts, she diagnosed me with Chronic Subjective Dizziness. I've had the dizziness for 1 month and a half, but 3 days ago I started with day and night tingling in my hands and in my right foot. Do you think this is a symptom of CSD (PPPD)? My doctor doesn't know what to tell me 😅. Thanks in advance. Greetings from the taco Country!
@TheSteadyCoach3 жыл бұрын
Carlos, my friend and neighbor! I am in Florida so I am waving at you from across the Gulf. CSD and PPPD are two names for the same thing. And yes, I often see tingling or other weird unexplained symptoms with chronic dizziness. It doesn’t mean you have a neurological condition (I’m sure your doctor ruled out serious tissue damage or disease), it means your brain is trying out a new circuit. If you watch my video on Ask Dr Yo- why do my symptoms change throughout the day- it’ll explain why. I was talking about dizziness symptoms specifically but it can happen with any symptoms that are not from tissue damage.

hello yonit When I do stretching exercises on my necks my symptoms increase a lot. there is an exercise that I do on my stomach on the floor and I raise my arms, legs and then my head trying to look up...this one is terrible. is it too violent? can it pinch nerves? my instabilities really increase with the movements and cracks in my neck...Can i hurt m'y neck doing exercices?...after that I'm not well for a long time. is it possible that in addition to stress it is also cervical instability? are there specific exercises for cervical instability? thé chiropractor said y have to get more flexibility in my neck... Thank you very much for your help and the Time you allow to us🙏
@TheSteadyCoach2 жыл бұрын
Stress causes physical changes in the nerves and muscles and leads to the symptoms you describe. The stretches you describe are likely not causing damage, they are irritating nerves and muscles that are already inflamed. This sends your brain a message of danger and that turns on the dizziness and pain. But it’s not usually because of damage or instability. The brain is what decides whether something is dangerous or not, and your brain is very sensitive to danger.

When I change position or when I get up quickly I hear a sound in my left ear (where I had my so-called neuritis) like my circulation and like wind. @TheSteadyCoach Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. If the physical abnormalities you report are truly the cause of your symptoms, then best to see a local therapist.
@Virgobro Жыл бұрын
@@TheSteadyCoach actually two spinal X-rays showed no abnormalities on my spine just that it had completely fused. The MRI scan of my brain showed no trauma. MRI of my neck showed no abnormality. EMG test turned out okay so he referred me to a ENT who said it wasn't ear nose or throat. Rheumatologist thinks it could be because of my progressed kyphosis but there's been no diagnosis of why I have chronic dizziness. I think I'm at step three or four in your course and I concur with pretty much everything that you're sharing. It's not the mobility issue that bothers me so much but the dizziness and numbness like my leg has gone to sleep but my whole entire body has. Then I get shakes when I'm triggered which spikes my anxiety and for the past two-and-a-half years I feel that I'm stuck in fight or flight and even fright. I've been dealing with anxiety for over 30 years due to childhood trauma... Which was triggered by the pandemic... And since November I've only gotten out on my own on my medical scooter two days maybe three days in a month. I'm very sensitive to medications and have been on antibiotics far too many times in the past six years which I think have contributed to the dizziness as it is a common side-effect. The conundrum is UTIs also affect mobility and cause dizziness. I've been dealing with these health challenges since 2007 the dizziness only began in 2020 with the sensation of walking on marshmallows or constantly on a bouncing trampoline when I'm walking. Thank you so much for your response and for your very informative and caring videos 🙏🏻

Hi Doctor, my respects. My name is Antônio Adolpho, I am 75 years old. I live in Brazil. I have an autoimmune disease called ankylosing spondylitis. I no longer have normal movement in my neck. I also suffer from dizziness and imbalance. I have a question, which if possible, I would like you to answer. Can this unification of the cervical vertebrae, the total lack of movement in my neck, cause my dizziness and imbalance? If so, is there any specific exercise I can do to avoid such discomfort? Can so-called “cervical traction” help in any way? I would sincerely appreciate a response. Sincerely, Antonio Adolpho
@TheSteadyCoach Жыл бұрын
Hello Antonio! I would think that cervical fusion could affect the balance system, but the best way to determine if it is the cervical fusion (and therefore exercises would help) OR if it is a neural circuit problem that has nothing t do with the cervical fusion is to work with a physio who is familiar with mindbody or psychogenic dizziness. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the organizations that provide such training in South America. I am SURE they exist in Brazil.

I don’t have it while sitting, laying down or driving . I haven’t had any trauma to the neck , but noticed I. Don’t have full range of movement on the left side (stiff neck). Does this sound like an accurate diagnoses? My neurologist said If it doesn’t go away he can just do a nerve block and it will go away right away again does this sound accurate ?

I can’t advise you on the medical side of this and it’s important to understand what your doctor is saying. However if there is no medical reason why your neck is stiff and they’re just to address the symptoms with their treatments, I would address this as neural circuit dizziness.
