We drove the Cassiar Highway in June 1979 just after it fully opened to the public. The lakes were full of trout. I don't recall services until we got to the north end which was open to the public for years. It didn't rain so the dirt road was dry fortunately. We didn't hit slick mud and rain until Dawson City and Top of the World Highway. 1978 International Scout. After that 16 years of exploring Alaska by river raft, cabin cruiser, canoe, and off-roading as far north as the Brooks Range almost to the Arctic Ocean. Shaun and Brad have a LOT more to explore 🙂

Sliding the rear end out on the safe side of those muddy sections is definitely something I need take note on. I was hauling a full size scooter and a pitbike (about 600lbs), + fuel and an extra truck tire on mountain switchbacks and I kept sliding down the 'dangerous' side. Seeing this has made me realize I need my rears in the ditch and my front tires on the track.

When I converted my Power wagon to a prospector XL the kit came with a spacer for the front driveshaft to lengthen the front driveshaft .
@TheStoryTillNow6 ай бұрын
Yeah we have that installed
@natehicks62716 ай бұрын
@TheStoryTillNow with our spacer we correct the geometry for the lift. As someone who has wheeled many prospectors and done the math on our suspensions, you don't need a custom driveshaft and that cv failure definetly wasn't caused by the prospector xl package. Hard to say what it was without eyes on it (axle housing?), but AEV warranty will absolutely work with you if something went wrong with install. But if it's installed properly, then your cause is definetly somewhere else.
@TheStoryTillNow6 ай бұрын
@natehicks6271 I’m still on the road so no chance to take a look at it in a shop yet. When I get home we will figure out what’s causing the issue and take it from there. I can’t see the AEV parts being the issue really since lots of people have the same setup.

I think your front axle assembly twisted at the axle housing changing the angle of the driveshaft causing it to fail. That’s exactly what happened to my 2500 prospector. Good luck
@chuckcribbs33986 ай бұрын
How would AEV not know that???
@Whetstone6166 ай бұрын
@@chuckcribbs3398 the axle housing assembly belongs to ram. At least in my case that’s what happened and they didn’t warranty it claiming it was “user error”.

No one will be surprised a RAM part failed under normal intended use for a truck like this. What’s really disappointing is if AEV won’t step up in situations like this. They are the ones that decided to mod and sell this platform.

That CV style joint on the front drive shaft has been a troublesome design on Chrysler 4wd/awd vehicles since the late 90s. Makes no sense why they still use it. A custom front drive shaft with extended length slip and double cardan at the t-case is the way to go, especially with the lift. I would also recommend a lockout style hub conversion for the long roads trips.
