It looks so much better than the outgoing model. I drove a 2019 sentra from a rental company and it was painfully sluggish. I don't expect it to be fast, but the sheer lack of any response when you stab the gas is very disconcerting when you need some passing power. My 30-year-old Miata is down 35 hp on the Sentra and it feels WAY faster off the line and up to 70mph. Hell, even my mom's dearly departed 2015 CVT Honda Fit was so much more responsive.

@TheRailShooter4 жыл бұрын
The Miata is a lighter car than the Sentra, you should remember power to weight ratio exists. The Miata being lighter would make the car faster and more fun to drive.
@dil69694 жыл бұрын
@@TheRailShooter It's not so much about the weight. It's how it reacts when you apply the throttle. The Miata FEELS fast when you hit the gas because there's no delay or unpredictable behavior, which is expected with a mechanical throttle linkage (and it has short gearing). It's not because it's actually fast. You can do a lot to improve a car's driving experience with just good tuning. A more apples-to-apples comparison would be my brothers 2016 2.0L automatic Mazda 3. It downshifts quickly and throttle response is good. The Nissan feels like it has a decent engine but it's completely nerfed with a crappy CVT and horrible throttle tuning. I know Nissan can do better.
@shadowboy8134 жыл бұрын
@@dil6969 The electronic throttle really has very little bearing on the throttle response (at least on tip-in). Throttle-by-wire is more an issue with lifting the throttle to shift (in a manual transmission car) than it does on tip-in. The delay here stems mostly from the fact that cars do not equip CVTs for performance reasons. The CVT exists to keep the engine where it is most efficient, so when you stab the throttle and want to "move now" the CVT pulleys need to change position to move engine rpm where there is more performance. It takes time for them to change gear ratio, as opposed to a sporting car with fixed gear ratios (be it a manual or automatic) where response is immediate, because engine rpm is directly coupled to road speed in fixed, discrete gear ratios (although with an automatic there may be a downshift delay too). There is no such thing more responsive than a manual transmission vehicle with a naturally aspirated engine. My 2008 Spec V is responsive, but also throttle-by-wire, and manual.
@Iridiumcosmos4 жыл бұрын
shadowboy813 Not exactly true. Nissans tune them now so you can have the CVT run in “performance” or “regular” mode. They literally shift like a traditional automatic depending on how much gas you give it.

This needs a manual at every trim level. Nissan if you have one just offer it. I own cars that have less horsepower but because they are manual, are more nimble, responsive and engaging to move around in. Also one needs to compare this low level entry car's features and comforts with what was offerd in this cass 15 years ago. Cars have come a long way.

TBH, I'm more inclined to go for a 4-speed auto, like the one on the 2010 Corolla. These transmissions are absolutely fine. I drive a manual everyday in Paris, and I don't see the appeal. Your average person is most likely to drive during rush hour. Driving a manual in slow 10 km/h traffic for 2 hours is just not fun.
@fabianherrmann63984 жыл бұрын
@@user-xg6zz8qs3q Totally agree. I was not advocating manuals above all and this auto Sentra is fine to commute in. However, automatics can suck the life out of a car. Drove two 2019 Fiestas 100 hp Ecoboost, one was dead and felt super slow the other was agile, only difference was the transmission. I respect other's opinions but out of all the reviews I've seen this has to be the one I dislike most. Like I don't want to be one of those people who say "oh you drive fast expensive luxury cars and then get into a normal car and complain how slow it is" but having driven both the new Sentra & Corolla the acceleration is a complete non-issue and in no ways is the Sentra anywhere near a "borderline hazard" getting onto the highway. Almost every other reviewer has appreciated the overall quality for the price & yes everyone has a different opinion which is the whole point of being a reviewer, but seeing such a *huge* contrast between the negativity in this vs other's reviews is almost off-putting, and again I've driven this car myself so I also have my own experience & not talking out my ass. This isn't to say the car doesn't have problems, the sport mode sucks & makes the transmission act awful, the Bose stereo is basically the same if not only *minorly* better than the Corolla's base system, and the weird "pushed back into your seat" sensation you sometimes when slowly letting *off* the gas is really irritating. On the other hand the Sentra has really good interior quality for its class, I prefer it way more vs the Corolla & especially road noise, even TheTopher briefly talked about how road noise was even better than the new Sonata. The car is slow but perfectly adequate for its class and the fact you can give the Corolla a pass in your other videos like the "Civic vs Corolla" one saying they're "point A to point B vehicles" yet have such a huge problem with this one even though it's only a tad slower than them is super annoying. I'm just gonna stop myself because not like anyone is gonna read all this, I'm not a hater I love the content this one just struck a nerve, and I'm not some Nissan fanboy either before anyone says so, I'm just objective & keep an actual open mind when it comes to vehicles vs having a hate hard-on based on a car's badge.

@georgeedwards51734 жыл бұрын
Your response is dead on honest. People look at peak horsepower and think they know how a car would perform, but little do they understand that peak power only matters if the car is driven at the limit, and literally no one buys these cars to do that. Nissan has sacrificed peak power for better normal performance and reliability, which customers will be happy with over the course of their ownership. The performance of this car is on par with it's competition and it's completely adequate. I have the previous version and it drives just fine. I also have a 2012 Toyota RAV4 V6 Limited, so I know a little bit of what higher power can do and I still have no issues with the Sentra.

I think you come from a genuine place and the perspective of a general buyer, which is great. That said, I can't agree with your comments having read the whole thing. I tested/dailied the Sentra SR Premium, Corolla XSE Sedan, Forte 5 GT - all for a week because my wife's family owns dealerships - and Civic Sport, briefly, and can honestly say the Sentra was far and away the worst of the bunch; almost across the board. The Sentra's seats were great and, as you pointed out, interior noise was the best but the driving dynamics were easily the worst, the infotainment, for my use case, was bad, the interior fit and finish was considerably worse than the rest (on the whole) and the feature set like-for-like didn't stack up. If the looks are a major consideration for someone then I can see how the Sentra would appeal to them. But, for me, it was at the bottom of the list and right there with something like the Mitsubishi Lancer (which at least has a great AWD system going for it). All that said, thanks for your thoughtful and engaging comments. It's refreshing to see them in a comments section, especially on KZbin.

Driving dynamics are way better than the corolla or civic (unless you get an SI but that’s in its own mini class) My best fuel economy was 48.7 mpg all the way home 17 miles of freeway driving. Has enough power to have fun, other reviewers who are way less biased love the vehicle and feels it is perfect for the segment. On top of that even a BASE model has the safety shield 360 system (blind spot, forward and rear automatic braking, Rear Cross traffic alert, high beam assist, and LDW with the vibrating steering wheel) Lower starting MSRP and they lease at $200 a month with barely any money down $1500 plus tax title and fees. The interior and exterior IMO are far superior to the corolla and the civic, the CVT is a new generation that simulates gears more aggressively so it whines a lot less, and I’ve already seen some with over 20K miles with no problems, I have 6K miles on mine and no funky business still. I have the SV Premium with the diamond stitched leather and I love it plain and simple. I can still out run corollas and the base engine civic on the freeway and I can throw it around corners really hard (40 MPH at 20s, and 80 on 55s)

I love this car looks better than outgoing generation. CVTs were pure junk from 2007-13 but improved not sure but just like automatic transmissions look at (Odyssey and Accords) they had problems in mid-2000s should look under Consumer Reports see average or poor trouble spot on list of stuff that is common. Think the CVTs in newer Nissans has improved I'm a person who likes to reviews see non haven't ran into any problems. Nissan is average brand not good or bad their cars will last a long time can be frustrating deal with car has common problems. In 1999 the reason Nissan merged with Renault save their company if wasn't for Renault Nissan would had been (GM-Olds, Pontiac, Saab and Hummer), (Ford-Mercury-dead). Nissan would had been history long ago they doing the best they can same with other products (Dell, Samsung, Apple, HP etc.,) all good brands don't you think they had lemons as well ran into glitches. Nissan is a good brand it's own way but hatred on certain stuff as CVTs, merging with Renault. Never know Toyota is good who knows would might go down the road with that product these are new days nothing lasts long because of computerized products.
