Will Eaton Well the truth hurts I guess. I mean, saying you are a fan of the Apple ecosystem is essentially saying you are happy to limit your options to only one company and to whatever they choose to offer you, at whatever price. Once invested there's no way out. It's a very insidious platform they've created which guarantees future customers regardless of hardware design and pricing.
@DerekJamesMandy6 жыл бұрын
MegaTechpc there’s nothing wrong with Apple though which is why some people just keep going back. No different than someone buying a civic over and over again. You can’t fault someone for hanging a preference. I’ve been android all my life except for my current iPhone. They both have pros and cons. When it comes to updates, customer support and stability. I’m sorry Apple blows android away. Android is more fun and allows for customization but the ecosystem is horribly fractured because of the “choice” people like to brag about.

@Tho_Me7 жыл бұрын
Agret You can use Android Auto without having it connected to a car with Android Auto support. Just try it out and start the App without your device connected to your car.
@cpF017 жыл бұрын
No, Netcruiser means you can use the Android Auto app on your mobile phone, without an AA/Apple CarPlay compatible infotainment system. Just open AA on your device, but don't plug it into USB of an AA/ CarPlay compatible car... the same AA infotainment screen just comes up on the phone itself. This is really helpful when you use rental cars. You get the same AA experience. I do this in my old 2008 Nissan Altima that has no infotainment system. It doesn't even have Bluetooth, however, I bought a small Bluetooth gateway and plugged it into the AUX audio port and pair my Samsung S8 to the bluetooth gateway as a trusted device. So now when I approach the Altima, the S8 pairs to the BT gateway and AA open automatically! Now I have 2018 tech in a 2008 car! However, Apple CarPlay only works with Apple CarPlay compatible cars. So, Netcruzer is correct. Apple CarPlay is... lame : )

Android hands down has a better Human-Machine Interface. Their database is so much better, richer, and they understand something a real human would say while driving, not something someone would have to read off a script with car stopped on the side of the road. Like, if you're just saying "Market St., Ohio", obviously I'm asking to be navigated there, but Apple doesn't know what to do. Thanks for doing an update to this. I was actually watching the first one over the weekend and wondering what would happen now. Please if you read this, you should highlight that Android Auto is running a version of Google Assistant, so actually I have my WeMo lights, thermostat and other home stuff hooked up with Google Home and I can control all of that from my CRV 2017. So I pull into the garage and can have the lights turn on by voice command. Also, you should test how easy it is to play music or podcasts, which is something I imagine people driving need to be able to do without looking. Finally, you could also check the voice triggers ("Hey Google," or "Hey Siri") rather than hitting the button to activate the software every time.

if you rent cars, Android Auto wins because it has a standalone app, that provides you the basics (Maps, music, calling/messaging) in an interface with big buttons. So when I go pick up my rental car, I show up with a windshield phone mount, and if the car doesn't support Android Auto, it's not that big of a deal; I just mount my phone and start the app. You can get a very basic mount nowadays at Dollarama for a few bucks.

Except last time I did this it automatically started syncing my profile with the car. Its not very filled, but the process still takes 15-25 minutes. This was annoying as I was in a new city, and needed directions then and there, for a commute that was around 10 minutes. Android Auto refused to work until the Sync was complete. And it forced my phone to freeze. Basically I needed to reboot my phone. Restart the car. And use the navigation straight off the phone without connecting. I connected later when I had a several hour drive with that car, and that's when the very long sync time didn't matter as much... but the whole experience sucked either way. And before you ask, it was a brand new (30 Miles!) 2017 Chevrolet Trax and the phone was a 2017 Samsung Galaxy S8 on stock TouchWiz firmware. As an Android fanboy, I hate iPhones and Apple CarPlay... but I got to use it later and it was a simple process, no issues, and the interface was definitely more useable and intuitive on the dash. Its gotten to a point where I'm considering switching platforms just to take advantage of this proper software support on the phone and accessories like the CarPlay and Watch. I would probably keep an Android phone in the house to customise it, r00t it, and pirate things... whereas I'm happy enough to make purchases in that Walled Garden/Prison.

I've rented a bunch of cars and plugged in with Android Auto and I have no idea what you're talking about lol I'm not saying you're lying, but I don't even know what you mean by Sync. I know some cars have their own custom separate phone + navigation interfaces that you can use *instead* of Android Auto, but I never bother with them and just open the Android Auto app that's installed on their platform. In my experience on numerous cars, the app opens really quickly. I haven't been in a Chevrolet in a while though, so maybe their system has that issue.

@@Kardenaz370 Not sure to be honest. This was in August 2017, but I doubt things have changed. There's definitely problems with AndroidAuto that need fixing. I'm thinking of replacing my own cars headunit, and I'll get one from a classic company (Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, Clarion, JVC, etc etc). One that supports both CarPlay and AndroidAuto. Then I'll test them out directly. Any advice on if I should get one with a Resistive Touchscreen or a Capacitive Touchscreen? And should I get a Fixed Screen unit, or one that slides out and can be tilted? Cheers in advance

@vernonprice59867 жыл бұрын
"Far, far ahead"? Android STILL couldn't pronounce his name properly, while the iPhone DID. Did you just not see that part or something? Android is BASED on iOS, the main differences that Google doesn't care anywhere near as much about human interface guidelines or keeping their infrastructure clean.
@ishouldhidemynamelmao3457 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price tf? Android is based on iOS? Apple cared so much that they slowed down their older phones ( i know they did discounted the batteries ) but doesnt that just mean that they control you? Instead of doing what you wanted instead? That did not admit that they slowed down the phone until hey were caught red handed and come up with "we are protecting batteries so it lasts longer" if they really care...wouldnt they inform their users first? And the fact that carplay ui does look good doesnt matter that much because you will be driving most of the time anyway and the important thing is the voice commands and who really care if it pronounce your name wrong if it still got it?
@vernonprice59867 жыл бұрын
"Android is based on iOS?" The code is not based on iOS, but everything in Android was built to mimic iOS. Were you not around in 2007 when all this was happening? Android existed before 2007, did you know that? And it was COMPLETELY different. When the iPhone first came out, Google literally scrapped Android and rebuilt it from the ground up from scratch, based on iOS. "but doesnt that just mean that they control you?" Is... that a serious question? Also what does any of that have to do withy what I said, which is that Android is not far, far ahead of the iPhone? ""we are protecting batteries so it lasts longer"" Yes, that is what they are doing. Do you even understand that longer battery life is what people actually want in a phone? Have you seen Apple's surveys? "And the fact that carplay ui does look good doesnt matter that much" Wrong, UI is literally the interface between your brain and the system. It is the most important part. And it's the reason Android scrapped everything and copied Apple in 2007 when the iPhone came out, because Android was absolutely fucking terrible until Apple showed them how to do it the right way. Because Apple understands UI and the human interface better than any other company on the planet. And they also understand that a good interface is what makes the difference between a good experience and a bad one. But go ahead, tell me that the iPhone becoming the highest selling phone in the history of the world is just a coincidence, or a fluke. Because that's what you believe, right? All of Android's success is DIRECTLY attributable to Apple. If you had seen Android BEFORE the iPhone came out, you would understand why. "and the important thing is the voice commands" You mean the voice commands that all worked perfectly in this video? Also, are you even vaguely aware that Apple brought Siri to market before Google had ANY voice recognition? "and who really care if it pronounce your name wrong" Because Apple got it RIGHT, and Google DIDN'T.
@willmelbourne40697 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price I can summarise your entire comment into "I'm an angry Apple fanboy who is always right".
@vernonprice59867 жыл бұрын
+Will Melbourne - Seeing as how you took the time to comment but couldn't actually prove anything I said wrong, then apparently I _am_ right. So what's the problem? If I'm saying things that are correct, why are you getting butthurt about it? Are you fundamentally opposed to the truth?

I respect what anyone is choosing. We have different wants, needs and point of view. but for me as my own point of view. To be honest I wanna buy Apple phone not because I'm not satisfied on Android but because of curiosity of how to use iphone but Apple is very expensive and as you can see the important use of phone between Apple and Android? it is very clear that Android is more useful and reliable. So, why I buy thing that will give less benefit on me? Of course I will buy thing that will benefit me more. Sorry but I think Apple really needs to lower their price because Android is not fighting Apple. Android is simply killing Apple.

I'm from Poland and Jakub is the proper pronunciation. If You type Jakub, You spell it Jakub. In America, You have this strage tendecy to pronounce words differently and independently from how You type them. So imho, Android Auto wins. If You type Jakub You shouldn't pronounce it as Jacob. An app called Drive mode can even let you respond to incoming messages hands free. Bixby has a few cool commands you can't do with Google assistant.. And you can make macro and layered commands. Having the phone do multiple things with one command.
