2021 Mazda CX-30 GT Turbo review by The Straight Pipes. The 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo is pumping out 250hp 320lb ft tq from a 2.5L Turbo 4 cylinder. At $36,250 CAD, would you take it over a Subaru Crosstrek, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Honda HRV, Toyota CHR?

I feel that car reviewers go through so many cars that they start becoming numb to what the cars offer. This Turbo is mind boggling in this CX-30. Way more than enough for regular drivers. It will put a smile on your face every time you floor it. No matter how much you try to behave for MPG sake, you will keep pushing it hard because it rewards you.

Yes, if Mazda had released these things 10-15 years ago they would be the toast of the automotive world and put all other automakers on notice. This deep into the 21st century nobody is overly impressed by a slick looking raised hatchback that can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds without the help of electric motors...and can be filled up with regular gas if you prefer to save a couple bucks.

@Beef - I had a 2013 Dodge Charger and my touchscreen worked the same at -17. You have got to quit applying this old man logic to everything. A nice, balanced review, as usual, and first out of the gate among the reasonably professional youtube car reviewers. I love that you guys offer reasonably thoughtful evaluations but always seem to have a lot of fun in the process. As late-late-middle-aged "mature enthusiasts," we put our money down in advance more than two months ago for the fully loaded Premium Plus Turbo US version after driving the standard CX30 and the turbo Mazda 3 back-to-back. Closest competitor for us was the Audi Q3, but we preferred the Mazda for looks (both inside and out), performance, long-term reliability, and FUN. And the price differential -- 10 to 20 percent less than comparable competitors from Audi, BMW, and Volvo -- didn't bother us in the least! We've had the car for more than a month now and are very pleased with it. True, the back seat and cargo space are a bit less than some of the competition, but that's why we have an Outback. The CX30 Turbo is a good looking and surprisingly sporty car that can handle unpaved roads MUCH better than our GTI but that's almost as fun to drive. Mazda hit a home run with this one!

I bought the CX-30 GS FWD and find it has more than enough power for my use. It just feels so luxurious every time I get into it with all the soft materials and the overall fit and finish of the vehicle. I like the large body cladding, gives a lot more lower protection and makes a strong contrast to the white body paint I have. I like the non-touch infotainment system, a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it makes a lot of sense and keep your screen clean!

I've been looking into buying a CX-30 GT or CX-5 GT. Something that seems to get heavily overlooked in all of the reviews I've seen is the functionality of Mazda's HUD: it shows your blind spot information. It's almost as good (functionally) as Hyundai/Kia's blind spot cameras but available at a much lower price point. Truly not a replacement for actually looking at your blind spot, but definitely a nice-to-have before you decide to change lanes. Just how great would it be to know if something MIGHT be in your blind spot without taking your eyes off of the road in front of you. Also a nice-to-have feature is the turn-in on the headlights when turning the steering wheel.

Thanks for doing this review straightpipes! I drove like 600 miles round trip to bring my CX-30 turbo back to home with me. Comparing to the CX-5 turbo you get much responsive handling on the CX-30 in exchange for room space, the rear seat at CX-30 isn't for grown adults at all. I definitely love the lifted body for easier in and out or grocery shopping, as a day to day vehicle, it's one of the top choices if you consider power and practicability.

I test drove one of these very recently, and was completely blown away by what you get for the money. Like for around the same money as a 'consumer trim' level Soul/Kona you're getting an experience of car that is closer to Lexus than Toyota. The seats are INCREDIBLE, the Turbo AWD setup is so smooth you forget its there, the transmission is great, the CX-30 rides awesome. It makes me question weather to get a larger sedan or this, even if the back seats are a little tight and headroom is limited. Its on the list for sure.

You'd die. Im serious. It's not safe. The Miata is too light for a somewhat powerful turbo engine. You'll over drift around a corner and crash if you cant control the throttle input.

I bought the 2020 CX-30 last year because I needed a new vehicle (the TSP review was hugely helpful!). Am I disappointed I missed out on the turbo version? Sure. But it's a lot more fun to drive than any other mid-sized SUV/CUV I test drove, and the infotainment is awesome.

Now that they put the 2.5 Turbo in the AWD CX-30 I too am looking at upgrading from my 2017 CX-3. The looks and style of both cars are good, but the 30 just has a little more of a premium style, and the motor now is definitely premium, in fact, it outperforms many premiums that cost $10k+ more than it.

I loved having this on my 2013 Mazda 3 GT. Took a sharp S-curve on a country road at night once and left my high beams on (because they "should have" been facing away from the road) and got flashed by an oncoming car... since the headlights had turned straight at them, lol.

I just got my new Soul Red 2021 CX-30 GT Turbo. I traded in my red 2018 Alfa Romeo Guila, Turbo, Lusso edition. OMG, so much more fun to drive. SO MUCH. I love this car. Yes, I understand they're totally different types of cars, but still! For me the Alfa was gorgeous on the outside, but was a disappointing drive. The CX-30 is super cute on the outside and an even better drive. The Alfa was like the pretty girl with a flat personality and the CX-30 is the cute girl who's sweet and super fun... like me :-D.

To address your issue about being able to open the doors. You should be able to set the auto door locks in the infotainment system. One of the settings will lock the doors when you put the vehicle in gear and unlock them when you put it in park. So, if you stop somewhere and get out all the doors will be unlocked.

3:25 I have a mazda 3 and this is configurable, in the settings for the door locks. For a while I had it set to “lock when driving” which got annoying because it didn’t unlock after. You can set to “lock when driving unlock in park” which works for me 6:15 also during the day if i turn the light stalk up manually to the parking light (or whatever you call it) setting it stays on as just angel eyes while i drive
