I feel that car reviewers go through so many cars that they start becoming numb to what the cars offer. This Turbo is mind boggling in this CX-30. Way more than enough for regular drivers. It will put a smile on your face every time you floor it. No matter how much you try to behave for MPG sake, you will keep pushing it hard because it rewards you.

Yes, if Mazda had released these things 10-15 years ago they would be the toast of the automotive world and put all other automakers on notice. This deep into the 21st century nobody is overly impressed by a slick looking raised hatchback that can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds without the help of electric motors...and can be filled up with regular gas if you prefer to save a couple bucks.

A nice, balanced review, as usual, and first out of the gate among the reasonably professional youtube car reviewers. I love that you guys offer reasonably thoughtful evaluations but always seem to have a lot of fun in the process. As late-late-middle-aged "mature enthusiasts," we put our money down in advance more than two months ago for the fully loaded Premium Plus Turbo US version after driving the standard CX30 and the turbo Mazda 3 back-to-back. Closest competitor for us was the Audi Q3, but we preferred the Mazda for looks (both inside and out), performance, long-term reliability, and FUN. And the price differential -- 10 to 20 percent less than comparable competitors from Audi, BMW, and Volvo -- didn't bother us in the least! We've had the car for more than a month now and are very pleased with it. True, the back seat and cargo space are a bit less than some of the competition, but that's why we have an Outback. The CX30 Turbo is a good looking and surprisingly sporty car that can handle unpaved roads MUCH better than our GTI but that's almost as fun to drive. Mazda hit a home run with this one!

Thanks for doing this review straightpipes! I drove like 600 miles round trip to bring my CX-30 turbo back to home with me. Comparing to the CX-5 turbo you get much responsive handling on the CX-30 in exchange for room space, the rear seat at CX-30 isn't for grown adults at all. I definitely love the lifted body for easier in and out or grocery shopping, as a day to day vehicle, it's one of the top choices if you consider power and practicability.

I bought the CX-30 GS FWD and find it has more than enough power for my use. It just feels so luxurious every time I get into it with all the soft materials and the overall fit and finish of the vehicle. I like the large body cladding, gives a lot more lower protection and makes a strong contrast to the white body paint I have. I like the non-touch infotainment system, a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it makes a lot of sense and keep your screen clean!
@roboticvenom19352 жыл бұрын

I've been looking into buying a CX-30 GT or CX-5 GT. Something that seems to get heavily overlooked in all of the reviews I've seen is the functionality of Mazda's HUD: it shows your blind spot information. It's almost as good (functionally) as Hyundai/Kia's blind spot cameras but available at a much lower price point. Truly not a replacement for actually looking at your blind spot, but definitely a nice-to-have before you decide to change lanes. Just how great would it be to know if something MIGHT be in your blind spot without taking your eyes off of the road in front of you. Also a nice-to-have feature is the turn-in on the headlights when turning the steering wheel.

I got a Mazda 2 back in August and I'd have to say that even though Mazdas aren't super fast, every single car feels a lot more sporty than they should (taking into consideration weight, torque, and hp). Mazda really does an amazing job in every single car. Not the best interior material choices to be honest, but to me, it's worth it. They give you a more luxurious feeling than a cheaper BMW or Mercedes. Mazda doesn't do something extremely good, they just deliver GOOD cars in every single way. Also, I do believe that Mazda's paint is one of the most beautiful looking paints out there (sadly it's super prompt to scratches).

I loved having this on my 2013 Mazda 3 GT. Took a sharp S-curve on a country road at night once and left my high beams on (because they "should have" been facing away from the road) and got flashed by an oncoming car... since the headlights had turned straight at them, lol.

I like how Mazda doesn’t detuve that engine between platforms, the same 227 (250 with high octane) HP / 320 TQ engine in the CX-9 is in the CX-30 and Mazda 3 Turbo. Nice! Thank you Mazda.

I have a Mazda 3 Turbo 2021 I put 44,000 miles on it in the last year. And my expectations for the car were to be a reliable all wheel drive car that can handle some snow some ice. And still be fun. My prior car had been a Subaru Impreza hatchback, and I liked that car but the two major flaws were the CVT which I hated, and just no power. I think of my car is the tiniest GT car ever. It's not built to be ultimately quick or fast it's built to be very comfortable and to be able to go quickly when you want it to and still be comfortable. And for that it is awesome. I was looking at some BMWs and some Audis when the Mazda crossed my path. And I was so totally impressed with the little car that I got it. As my daily driver. The biggest weaknesses in the car I've noted are the brakes, they fade disturbingly quick, which I have addressed with mazda. The way the power drops off at the top end. It has great low-end torque and between say 2,000 and 5,000 RPM it makes driving super easy, but anything above 5000 it's just not even worth doing. Might as well short shift. Perhaps a slightly larger turbo or a different turbo architecture, or maybe a hybrid Turbo would completely transform that car. If you could keep making power above 5,000 I think it would go from being sprightly to downright quick. And it would make passing in the mountains, which is something I have to do quite a bit where you have very short passing zones, a bit easier. Also I'm not a huge fan of the low profile tires with 18-in wheels in the mountains. You really have to watch for potholes cuz you will destroy a tire. I absolutely love the non-touch screen infotainment system. It took me a couple of days to adjust to what the controls were and where they were but after that I don't have to look down ever. I can simply flip through modes and control everything that I want with my eyes still on the heads up display. For all the concerns with the rear torsion bar suspension, I haven't found that to hold me back at all. I regularly Drive the Dragon & similar roads with about 300 lb of gear ( I do independent it contracting, and I carry basically everything I need with me in the car). Obviously I never really push it on public roads, but I found it to understeer slightly but other than that to be very predictable and you can settle the understeer with a little bit of throttle. Personally I love the Mazda 3. But I wasn't expecting a mazdaspeed. I wanted a small reasonably quick reasonably efficient well handling car that could carry the gear I have to carry, and this car far exceeded my expectations at the price point.

I had a 2016 mazda 3 for a few years and love the click wheel for the infotainment system. I don't know why Jacob doesn't like it. I have a fiesta st that has a touch screen now and there is no way to do anything on it with out taking your eyes off the road for a dangerous amount of time to tap buttons accurately. With the click wheel you can quickly glance to see how many clicks of the wheel you'll need to get to the next menu option. Just my opinion.

Just bought the 2021 CX-30 GT AWD Turbo. On the test drive the front windscreen seemed distorted. This was the only negative I found. I will be removing the rear center headrest to see a fraction more, plus no one will be in the back seat. The non turbo with 2.5L didn't put a smile on my face and I could hear the engine a little bit more if I pushed the car. But it's turbo twin just seemed to cruise along effortlessly with less engine sounds and it had me smiling the whole time when I stomped it :) It just screams enjoy me, it just screams instant gratification. The comfort factor with power heated seats that have lumbar support is great on a tired Veteran's body. So this is my mid life crisis car for just turning 50. Plus the new rims I'll be getting in a few months. I chose the machine grey metallic. After driving a CX-9 for two years I really enjoyed driving this cozy little ride. I pick it up today after lunch in PEI Canada and the snow tires get put on Monday. After watching this review and researching other reviews I felt confident in my choice. I'm 5 feet and 6 Smurfs so I thought the CX-5 would be overkill. My large service dog Tucker...a Lab/Shepherd/Collie mix breed will fit fine in the passenger front seat. I purchased this thing knowing that it will rarely leave the underground parking and hit the highway. It will be fine around town to get me to my appointments and getting groceries. Plenty of space for that. It's a shame my golf clubs can't go across the back but it's so easy to park. After researching all the various brands and the issues they have...I'm happy I bought a Mazda! I thought the plastic cladding on other models was just fine. So I agree that the CX-30 has a bit too much. But when you look at the beautiful color and the curves down the sides of this SUV you soon forget the cladding. When you stomp that accelerator...you forget all about any negative aspect you have about this vehicle as a smile grows on your face.

About the non-driver doors not open, you need to do some settings in the Infotainment. Look for something like "open all doors when parked" then you are all set. Even when the car is still running, you can open all doors as long as you put the car into Park.

I feel like I'm one of the few people that actually do not mind the black cladding. I didn't like it at first when the CX-30 first got announced but I think with the black wheels especially it kind of gives it an "off-road" vibe that contrasts with the otherwise near-luxury vibe they have been going for the past few years with their other models.
