GM has been doing that Classic/1.0 idea for years. If they have a particularly well selling body style, they keep it for at least a year while they slowly retool the factories. For example - the 2008 Malibu Classic vs. the 2008 Malibu.

To get rid of the understeer, or at least mitigate it, you need to get off the gas and let it take you around with the momentum and as soon as you straighten out you hit the gass to let the awd claw you of the turn and you will speed up! I own a 2016 STI and yes the understeer is there, but you have to learn how to trail break correctly to load up the front and you should be fine. I also find driving it with the traction control completely off and full rear bias to be the best setting to drive this in. I can def get the tail to kick out. You just have to spend some time with the car getting to know it and then develop your skills. It's too easy to blame the car for our shortcomings as drivers. Also there is really nothing else available in this market for this price now that the evo is gone.

I still think the regular WRX is the better car. The FA20 is more efficient, better usability/less turbo-lag, doesn't eat head gaskets (I think) and the ride far is less punishing. Not only that even with options, the WRX rings in about ~$5k less money. Only if you're actually planning to Auto-X or go trackway would the STI seems worthwhile. However there is no question the WRX/STI chassis is getting old. The new Impreza is out and is a massive improvement over the outgoing bland Impreza, so I can't wait to see how Subaru would re-do the WRX & STI. However I would cringe if I see a Hybrid powertrain or badge anywhere near the STI logo.

Trades46 Chassis getting old?! Dude... the 2015+ VA chassis is only 3 years old. The 2015+ WRX/STI VA chassis is a slightly different animal than its predesesors. More tortionally rigid, improved suspension geometry, a few minor tweaks here and there. Unlike previous generations, its now a different chassis than the Imprezza. The two model lines no longer share the same chassis code. The WRX/STI is its own model line now.

I own a 2015 STI. I agree with most of what you said about the drive train and driving experience, except not being easy to drive smooth. So epic for the price point, I know a Focus RS, Civic Type R, etc is more refined with just as much power but something about having a more raw experience with that engine noise just does it for me. Find the hot hatch pops and bangs to be getting old at this point, too many guys just flooring it and coasting on straights to make me start to hate it. The sti is definitely not for everyone. Its one of those cars that inspires driving confidence but also demands a lot of skill to get the full potential out of the car. People that complain about the under steering have a flawed understanding on how this car is meant to be driven and fundamentally how awd works when the car is being pushed hard.

I totally agree! I have a 2017 Limited STI, and it's exterior looks classier than the Type R. The exterior of the the Type R looks like a machine of some sort. However, the it's interior is quite nice. I love the interior of the STI in the night. It lights up so nicely. STI all the way. It just needs a new engine and a new infotainment head unit. Other than that, it's awesome! If they do those two upgrades, it will continue to be a hit!

you want to get rid of the understeer? Put in front camber. Subaru is allergic to proper front camber in the US market. -1.8 to -2.0 camber up front is pretty magic vs the -1 they spec and the near 0 most have from the factory.

The ending of the video with the fun argument of future/classic is what helps pull you two into reality, making your reviews far more authentic and fun to watch. I feel I get ample information about the vehicles in a mini-drama episodic way. Classic :)

Not sure why I'm wasting my time with this rant, but maybe this will help your channel. Who knows: Just found this channel, and I'm already frustrated. You recommended a WRX over the STI, despite it having a cable shifter, a much crappier transmission, electronic steering instead of hydraulic steering, a shittier stock tune (no top end grunt) and a flawed (wow, it's new! >_>) engine to say the least. Then go on to make fun of the STI's transmission, which despite the car's many...many...MANY flaws, is one of the most bullet proof aspects of the vehicle. Also, you're driving it on pavement wrong (if you want to drive spirited, and not like you're on a grocery run). Like any all wheel drive car (that's not repurposed from a 2wd platform) you'll need to pull back the handbrake to get it parallel with the exit of the turn asap. Ever wonder why mid-turn any rally car's wheels are pointed straight ahead? That's why. Pulls you out of the turn. The faster you get the car sideways, the faster you can get to going fast (straight). If you're spirited driving is leading you to understeer, you're doing it wrong. If you can't do that, you need to brake harder before the turn, turn the vehicle as quickly as possible, then slam on the accelerator. Slower and "safer" alternative and takes very little skill just a little practice, but same principle (get you going straight asap and utilizing the all wheel drive to keep you stable as you pull from the turn into the straight). It will feel like you're going slower than driving the car like a front wheel drive car, but you'll actually be shaving off a LOT of time. Learn to turn with a handbrake (or brake early) and you'll see the advantages to all wheel drive very quickly, on or off the pavement, and you might start to learn why you sound kinda uneducated right now. The advantage of all wheel drive is that it "recovers" you from the drastic turn you need to make to get the most out of the car, instead of the possibility of your ass flinging out ahead of you like in a rear wheel drive car. All this I thought was common knowledge. All I own is a freakin stock stick SR5 Tacoma. You guys run an auto review channel with nearly half a million subs and don't seem to know ANYTHING about what you're driving (even going so far as to test the DCCD mid-drive like you've never even heard of it), and you're dragging a good car's historic name through the mud because it doesn't drive like a front wheel drive car which seems to be more of what you know. But I'm really glad you like the car's telescopic steering and headlamps. Because that helped people decide on which sports car to get. Who am I kidding, based on the comments, it seems most of your viewers are more interested in the fact you got your drone to mimic the view perspective of a video game, so maybe this all is just a waste of time.

This was a year ago man, and they're not in a rally, no one is going to handbrake turn on public roads. They don't own this car so they can't just fling it into turns. I like Subarus but i don't rage this hard when a reviewer doesn't like one of them. Also who cares about your opinion lol.

Cheapest model... they got the limited S# and I feel the same? Because you’re driving it at 2k rpm Also, the car isn’t really that loud. It really was a lot quieter than I expected which I was happy about. Also I never noticed anything regarding under steering but I didn’t go into the car with that precedent already in my head.

Just a correction on something you said. The WRX did not lose it's boxer rumble due to the new engine. It lost it because it dropped the unequal length headers that the STI still has. Supposedly the WRX dropped the unequal length headers to improve fuel economy.
@TheStraightPipes6 жыл бұрын
+victor bozzo no its actually due to the new engine. The new engine has a twin scroll turbo which uses equal length headers. So the headers had to become equal length as a result of the engine / turbo
+victor bozzo I'm aware that the UEL's give it the characteristics Subaru rumble. But they were removed as a result of the turbo change

there's a way to eliminate understeer in a wrx, and it's a milestone in becoming a better driver. Much like learning how to balance the throttle and the clutch from a standstill to rolling in first gear, learning to eliminate understeer is a balance. too much throttle, releasing the clutch too quickly or too slowly are factors that one must consider. when it comes to understeer it's important to understand the factors that come into play during high speed turns; degree of acceleration, degree of steering, and degree of braking. At any given time in a high speed corner, you can only perform ONE of the following, Braking, Steering, OR accelerating. Braking hard during a turn will cause understeer, or loss of steering. So will accelerating. The proper way to enter a high speed turn, is to hit the brakes HARD just before the turn begins. Once you start to turn the wheel, you must let off the brake gradually as you approach the apex. do not touch the gas. if and only if you have reached the apex, then you hit the gas slightly and gradually increase until the corner "opens". once the corner "opens" you go full throttle. this will affectively eliminate understeer in a subaru, and make you a much better driver.
