In Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart you once more take on the role of Ratchet, Clank and new friend Rivet to defeat returning nemesis Dr. Nefarious on an adventure through the multiverse. Nefarious has stolen the Dimensionator and is on the hunt for the dimension where he can finally defeat the last of the Lombax and rule supreme, even if it means tearing the universe to pieces to get there.
As a kid I was absolutely in love with the Ratchet & Clank series, to this day those early games probably have some of the most playtime of any game I've played. But sadly when the consoles moved on a generation I skipped the PS3 and when the Playstation exclusive franchise moved on from the PS2 I lost my way with the franchise. So when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was announced for the PS5 I knew not only that I'd have to play it, but that I'd have to write a song about it too.
But I ended up writing a song about more than just that. I started writing this song with the intent of doing something very silly (I tried and failed to perfect a singing voice for Doctor Nefarious) but as I brainstormed and learned more about the game I started finding themes and ideas that really spoke to me and pulled me in another direction.
In Rift Apart, Ratchet and Clank think they have it all figured out, they know their world and their place in it. Until that world suddenly changes in a way they could never anticipate. Their journey touches on many hard hitting themes such as self doubt, being 'broken' and that sometimes flaws are a matter of perspective.
So whilst this is still very much a song about and inspired by the themes and narrative of the game, it is also a deeply personal song, drawing from experience in adapting to and overcoming unexpected situations, self discovery and exploring what it means to be you when you find that maybe there's more 'you' than you thought.
It's honestly one of my favourite songs I've made to date, so I really hope you enjoy it.
Also, I am moving house! Again! So expect a run of simpler video projects until I'm settled and ready to get back to big video productions! I'll be back with some huge planned projects a little later in the year along with some other exciting changes to the channel I'm not ready to talk about just yet.
A colossal thanks to the incredible, inimitable Freeced for penning and performing the guest verse for this track! Please go check out their work if you haven't encountered them before!

9qH66 LYRICS: VERSE 01: So things seem stable It’s beginning to all make sense But on the periodic table Equilibrium ain’t that dense So you’re top of every playbill? You’ve been living as the main event? Live a life on red carpets you can’t be surprised When you ask where the rug went When it’s pulled out from under your feet Fronting parades to confronting defeat Dumped in the rain, unfamiliar streets But there’s nothing to gain by admitting you’re beat Maybe it ain’t quite as grim as it seems Don’t get to choose the loose screws you inherit That’s more than a face in the mirror you’re seeing Together you’ve got the tools to repair it Might just be a Lombax with a wrench I was at on the bench, now I’m back with a vengeance Smashed my dimension so Ratchet’s suggestion? Mechanical emperors should cash their pensions Graduate from the school of harder knocks Than the grade A plates of my Carbonox When I take straight aim with my blaster shots The reports say rain (with some parts of bots) When realities collide It’s appealing to think there’s Green on the other side Well you’re wielding the sprinkler The world’s what you make it Your fate’s not ingrained Every crack in the paint’s Still a piece of the picture CHORUS: 01 Look past the pieces and you’ll see there’s more adventure to seize Don’t believe it? Then you’re thinking one-dimensionally So this world is not the one that you intended to be? Well a Rivet’s what you need when things might tear at the seams It’s your turn to revolt in every turn of the bolt To take the world on your shoulders then turn it to gold When you’ve crashed into fragments of all that you know Well you’re far from alone - We’re just a rift apart We’re just a rift apart A rift apart We’re just a rift apart VERSE 02: So it seems your outlook can be warped Whole schemes cut off like some jean shorts Keep tracking ‘em down and the heat source Leads you to keen sword swings at machine sorts Keep breathing, it's all gonna pass in a season Believe it, and call it a flash in the pan And release it, let a thought stop with a dash And you'll leave it all it looking real small in the past A shatterbomb to your artwork Can make it feel like your heart burst It's hard to know what to start first Each step becomes a departure And you may feel like a drifter Resist a place in the mixture Is this a crack in the rift or Another piece of the picture Another piece of the picture CHORUS: 02 Look past the pieces and you’ll see there’s more adventure to seize Don’t believe it? Then you’re thinking one-dimensionally So this world is not the one that you intended to be? Well a Rivet’s what you need when things might tear at the seams It’s your turn to revolt in every turn of the bolt To take the world on your shoulders then turn it to gold When you’ve crashed into fragments of all that you know Well you’re far from alone - We’re just a rift apart We’re just a rift apart A rift apart We’re just a rift apart VERSE 3: There’s one thing rarer than raritanium That’s a fate that don’t seem alien No matter how long you’ve been on that grind Life soon finds ways of derailing Any infobot will say the same again If a legacy’s planting seeds you’d better believe I’m leaving these enemies in leaves and geraniums And though chance may choose our canvas Only we can paint the hues But your flaws don’t mean you’re broken They’re just deeper shades of you Combination of Sagan and Bob Ross No mistakes when repainting the cosmos If things seem grey it ’s the start of a gradient Can’t make hay without raking the compost BRIDGE: Where dimensions fragment and the shards reconnect You’ll find you’re not defined by the past they reflect Leaving one world behind can be hard to expect But you’ll work out in time a new path in the next When your reality cracks, it can feel like forever Trapped in the gaps as the pieces are severed If you feel you could lapse all you need is a tether To that team at your back, you can keep it together CHORUS: 03 Look past the pieces and you’ll see there’s more adventure to seize Don’t believe it? Then you’re thinking one-dimensionally So your world is on the brink of some nefarious scheme? Well a Rivet’s what you need when things might tear at the seams It’s your turn to revolt in every turn of the bolt To take the world on your shoulders and then turn it to gold When you’ve crashed into fragments of all that you know Well you’re far from alone - We’re just a rift apart We’re just a rift apart A rift apart We’re just a rift apart OUTRO: And with every new world that unfurls you will find There is more to your life than the one you designed There is far more to fight for than what you are leaving behind

This is what you consider a smaller project? Sure this video isn't as visually outstanding as your others, but that doesn't change the fact that this song is probably one of the best songs you've ever made. "And though chance may choose our canvas Only we can paint the hues But your flaws don't mean you're broken They're just deeper shades of you" That is a masterpiece of a line. You're a genius. So, I really love this song. And for a few reasons, but I feel the main one should be explained here. The terminology used in this song is PHENOMENAL. It uses a lot of what I personally use to describe my symptoms of PTSD. I often consider myself a broken man, due to a wide variety of injuries and mental health problems that have made it very difficult for me to function in normal society- and when I heard the line, "But your flaws don't mean you're broken, they're just a deeper shade of you", it genuinely brought a tear to my eye. It has been a long time since I've felt whole, but this song has pulled at my heartstrings and helped me feel far better than I have in years. It has earned a permanent spot in my playlist, and cemented itself a place in my heart. Please, keep up the absolutely amazing work

Dont usually leave second comments, but this song just brings alot of different messages to tell to different types of people. Its a song to cope with whatever you may be going through no matter what other people may say about those flaws. The messages that I'd see this song would tell is that it's okay to leave something behind (like a break in the internet), confronting a serious trauma you've got very recently or for a long time, finding a purpose for yourself in life, and knowing that your not the only one who is having so many flaws in yourself. This song's writing just executes these messages so perfectly without being too cliche while still making it reference the Rachet & Clank fandom, that it's an understatement to say that this song is another banger from Stupendium, since it is song that will help a lot of people, including those who wrote the song and help Stupendium make it. If I have to give one line from this song that would summarize every message it has, "Every crack in the Paint's still a piece of the picture", is what I'd choose. I really dont want to say it's one of your best magnum opus again since I left a comment bout that in your recent song, "The Data Stream", but to give another title, it is the best song you wrote in your entire career.

Favorite lines of this song: "When realities collide It’s appealing to think there’s Green on the other side Well you’re wielding the sprinkler The world’s what you make it Your fate’s not ingrained Every crack in the paint’s Still a piece of the picture" -Look, I'll be totally honest; the idea of the multiverse is basically my religion, and this whole bit summed up exactly why it is. It doesn't matter how much life might suck, there are countless universes where it doesn't, where every dream and desire you've had are reality, but more importantly, it still doesn't mean that your own life is meaningless. "Though chance may choose our canvas Only we can paint the hues But your flaws don’t mean you’re broken They’re just deeper shades of you" -This... this is just beautiful. "Where dimensions fragment and the shards reconnect You’ll find you’re not defined by the past they reflect Leaving one world behind can be hard to expect But you’ll work out in time a new path in the next When your reality cracks, it can feel like forever Trapped in the gaps as the pieces are severed If you feel you could lapse all you need is a tether To that team at your back, you can keep it together" -No matter what happens, no matter how things changed, whether in a small scale of your life or a large form of dimensions fragmenting, the important thing is to always have someone you can rely on. "And with every new world that unfurls you will find There is more to your life than the one you designed There is far more to fight for than what you are leaving behind" -What else is there to say about this? :')

Beautiful song. I love this kind of message. I'm reminded of "My Past Is Not Today" from Equestria Girls, where the main villain from the first film, now reformed and struggling with all the wrongs she did in her past, sings "My past does not define me, 'cause my past is not today". Interesting that both songs also identify a key part in the process being relationships with other people: "If you feel you could lapse all you need is a tether to that team at your back - you can keep it together", and "When I began to fall and I lost the path ahead / That's when your friendship found me and it lifted me instead". This is great! There's room for many more songs about second chances, picking yourself up, and the support of a non-judgmental community. This is a message we need more of.

Normally in your songs there's a couplet or a quartet that just encapsulates the quality of your writing in one powerhouse prosaic punch. And, as a poet, those moments are genuinely day-making to hear for the first time because I know how it feels to craft writing like that. This is just an /entire song/ of moments like that. You know, every time I've come back to this song it's meant more to me, and by now it's remarkably similar to the issues I've been facing in my life for the past few years. It's done a lot more than just cheer me up. My story, if you're willing to hear it, is that I come from the most wonderful community imaginable. I grew up with friends who'd do anything for me, and I for them. It was a community based not on any one thing, but rather our bonds themselves. I never imagined a world without them, in part because I never knew one. Then Covid. I was separated from my friends for nearly 2 years straight, and by the time I was on the other side of it, I realized that time never stopped for me. We were in high school now, everyone was different than they used to be and everyone had new friends. Well, besides me. I've struggled with that closure, it was really as though the rug was pulled out from under me. I was in a new, unfamiliar world and I didn't know what to do. I still don't really, but I've been on a journey of self improvement ever since. Almost every lyric of this song resonates with me for one reason or another in this issue, and it really helps me to remember that I will work out a path in this new world, and that every step of the journey is just that.

To think that i might go insane now as I try to solve the mystery of how this guy can make such a good music ... I really like that he stepped aside from his usual Art of darkness and let us forget all the things we knew, that this lyrics comes from way, way deeper down ( from... His heart, not from hell 😂😂). I always say okie dokie to his music.. whenever it's a scary Xmas .. A carol of a tale or a song about an owl afraid of insects :))). Every time I feel like I'm putted back together and every lyric of this song soon will flow in my head like a data stream... Just hope that I will not ever be rifted apart from this channel... There's not much I can comment here that others haven't said better, as others have said; while this video's visuals were rather more ordinary than your usual spectacle, the song itself is among your best works. Whether such a tradeoff is worth it is up you, I love your videos because of all the visible love for what you do leads to amazing production value, but the ability to focus more on the song itself obviously has it's benefits. The lyrics are amazing, the emotions it carry are enough to make my dead apathetic heart feel a shred of hope, and it's just such a happy bop. This song is in the same vein as no wave like home, a happy inspirational bop that helps me motivate to function. I say all of this having never consumed any of the Ratchet and Clank games, having barely a shred of the context for the video. Its the mark of a good fan works creator to still have it be amazing to someone who is unfamiliar with the fandom.

I'm listening to this song for the 1000th time, and it is just hitting me how amazing it is to hear this, a drastic dearture from Stupendium's usual grim and dark themes, sure there are probably others that I can't think of right now, but this one stands out so much. Inspirational, upbeat, and hopeful, it's a really uplifting song to listen to.

Man... i like how difference between normal video and simple one is just no camera and little more gameplay vids. and no cuts on music, lyric or CGI + "simple" videos is about games that has VERY good graphics to just add gameplay vids or/and where (maybe) real faces (camera) wouldn't really fit. So we don't even lose anything

Like everyone has already pointed out, this song has some pretty meaningful lines. I can’t tell you it solved my problems, but it made me realize not everything has to be perfect. I don’t know what was different about the way this song said it that made me realize, but it’s the first time I’ve felt content with myself. Thanks Stupendium, after two years I’ve finally found the perfect song for me. The song that I’m hoping will turn me around to a brighter look at life.
