I feel like the end of the Return of the Jedi and Luke's victory was the ultimate and best ending in cinematic history. Luke won, not because he overpowered his enemy with pure strength or skill, he won because he stuck to his own principles and morals. He won because his beliefs were stronger than that of Palpatine's. In the end, Luke could've killed Vader, but instead, he stuck true to being a Jedi and showed compassion and love, instead of fear and anger. And in the end, Love and Compassion overcame Fear and Anger. The Light overcame the Dark. And Anakin defeated Darth Vader.

For real. It's why I think the prequels could have been so much more. Anakin and Luke both rejected the teachings of their masters for what they believed; but in polar opposite ways. Anakins fall could have been such a great antithesis to Luke's rise. If it had been handled better, it would have made Luke sticking to his principles and turning Anakin even more powerful

After Anakin died in his son's arms, Obi-Wan called out into the void, "Anakin." A moment later, Obi-Wan heard a familiar voice return from the darkness. "Obi-Wan? Master, I'm so sorry. So very, very -" "Anakin, listen carefully," Obi-Wan interrupted. "You are in the netherworld of the Force, but if you ever wish to revisit corporeal space, then I still have one thing left to teach you. A way to become one with the Force. If you choose this path to immortality, then you must listen now, before your consciousness fades." Obi-Wan sensed confusion and remorse in Anakin's psyche, then Anakin answered, "But Master . . . why me? " "Because you ended the horror, Anakin," Obi-Wan said. "Because you fulfilled the prophecy. Because you were . . . and are . . . the Chosen One." But Obi-Wan knew in his heart that those were not the only reasons. He added, "Because I was wrong about you. And because I am your friend." Anakin answered quietly, "Thank you, Master."

I think if Obi Wan listened closely when Vader tells him that Anakin was dead and Vader killed him....that was the small bit of the Light Side still inside of Anakin/Vader. Wouldn't a Sith Lord want his opponent suffering in pain? Wouldn't Vader rub it in Obi Wan's face, that Obi Wan did kill Anakin? That it was all Obi Wan's fault? Just a few minutes before that, we had Obi Wan letting go of the past and embracing the future, thus regaining and deepening Obi Wan's connection to the Light Side, allowing him to defeat Anakin/Vader. Instead, Vader releases Obi Wan from the obvious pain and suffering that Obi Wan had endured for 10 years.

See I would agree with you. I have heard many people say that scene shows how far gone he is and just how far he fell, trying to toy with Obi-Wan's emotions. I think much as you say it is Anakin taking responsibility for what happened, removing Obi-Wan's guilt and pretty much saying, it is not your fault I fell to the dark side, I am the one who went down this path, I am the one who continues to do this, and this is me now, it is too late and I can not change it, but it is not your fault.

@@jacobscarbrough1847 No hes saying that anakin comes through for a minute and is taking responsibility for falling to the dark and therefore relieving obiwan of guilt, but he's not asking for death at all. IMO the only part of Anakin and the light side that shines through is when he says 'i am not your failure obiwan'. It's anakin briefly coming through to relieve his old friend and former master of all the guilt he feels upon failing his apprentice. i think the part after where he says 'you didn't kill Anakin i did' is vader taking back control. Just from the way he says it and the way hes almost smiling it's defintely vader talking at that point IMO. I think ppl forget Anakin and vader psychologically are not the same person as said by lucas they are two different ppl and two separate entities trapped within the same body, Anakin the light and Vader the dark. It's unique even as sith go because it's not just Anakin giving into the dark side it's him losing control to this complete foreign personality that's been building and taking hold since essentially the day he started being bullied in the Jedi academy as a padawan. It's not Anakins choice essentially it's more like a different person taking over his mind the more he succumbs to the dark side of the force an extreme, extreme case of severe bi polar personality disorder fuelled by the light and dark side of the force.

I mean Obi Wan tried twice. Had he realized the Jedi had their flaws, I’m sure he would’ve had a better chance, especially if he listened to Qui Gon more. It’s fair for Obi Wan to think that. Which is why I truly don’t believe Luke would’ve been tempted to kill Ben Solo, and think that force ghosts Anakin and Obi Wan would’ve done more to help Luke and Kylo. I like to think that the Jedi's idea of balance was extremely flawed. They believed that the Light Side overpowering the Dark Side was balance. And they had mostly achieved that by the time Plagueis was around. The Sith were around, sure, but not a major threat in the immediate time frame. To bring balance, the Jedi needed to be brought down to the same level as the Sith. And when this happened, it was an OVER correction. So Vader betraying Palpatine was the final correction. All of this leads to true balance.

The balance of the force is when there are ZERO dark side users. Dark side users want the force to serve them, while light siders such as the jedi serve the force. The dark side is more of a mutation of the force, then a real "side" and the Force always wants it to be destroyed so that balance can be achieved. Numbers don't matter if we are talking about light side users because the Force is already balanced without them, they just help keep that balance by not allowing the dark side to gain any power. It definitely was through the will of the force that the Jedi were destroyed, but not because there were too many of them, but because they had become too politicized and they lost their ways. Luke would eventually rebuild the Jedi order the way it should be.

@limitlesssky3050 Жыл бұрын
So you know more about the Force than George Lucas himself? According to him, the Dark side is the corruption, a cancer, while the "Light side" is the Force itself. The Force itself is already balanced, it doesn't need further corruption to make it more balanced.
@Masondhutchinson
@Masondhutchinson Жыл бұрын
Yeah I personally reject this because it implies a certain amount of anger, jealousy, hate etc. are good or that the dark side should just be used in moderation. That kinda changes the whole theology of the force. We were told: "If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will..." I do believe there is good and evil in the world and that you are always being tempted to take the low road, give in to your instincts and be a servant of that evil. I've never seen a person that let those emotions direct them achieve a good end.

Actually, Obi-Wan WASN'T there when Vader did all that, he was on Utapau. Also, Obi-Wan and the other Jedi were also responsible for how Anakin became Vader. It wasn't just Anakin himself who decided to become Vader, the Jedi pushed him to do it. Being the extremists that they are, they kind of forced Anakin to be a perfect Jedi, their perfect Chosen One. And with him once being a slave, Anakin was again made one at the feet of the Jedi.

@@99thJediWarrior Yes, the Jedi played a part for being too strict. However, a large portion of the blame is on Anakin and especially Palpatine. My issue is that people seem to place almost all the blame on the Jedi.

@@Lukman_AFC Because in their own way, they did do it. They may not have intended to, but they did so in such a way that made Anakin seem like he wasn't enough. He couldn't even be himself around most of them. A good amount of the Jedi treated him like a weapon instead of a comrade. Save for Qui-Gon, they never truly accepted him as one of their own. They only ever forced the Light on him when he should have gotten to know both sides of the Force, especially since Anakin IS the Force made flesh. The Force had both the Light and the Dark, justvas he did. He needed to have balance in himself if he was to bring balance in himself and the Light was not the only side that needed strengthening. His Dark Side needed attention too and the Jedi, as a whole, disregarded that. Even Qui-Gon could see that and he was the only true Jedi out of all of them. Furthermore, the Jedi of the Prequels were all taught to put the Jedi Code BEFORE the Force. And they were groomed to be lapdog for the Republic. And if you think about it, Anakin wasn't even born under the Republic, he was a slave and the Republic's laws on slavery didn't reach as for as Tatooine. So why would he fight for a Senate that hardly even tried to help someone like him? If anything else, Qui-Gon was the Jedi that Anakin needed to grow into. The others, including Obi-Wan, were all responsible for making Anakin into the monster he became later in life. They all feared his power and treated him like he was a weapon, a tool to do their bidding. And there is only so much that a guy can take before that Order they dedicate themselves to begins to start showing a whole other side that doesn't line up with what they preach. Example: Both Palpatine and Mace Windu tell Anakin the exact same thing in Episode 3 at different times - "He's too dangerous to be left alive." Essentially, the Jedi have become hypocrites. They no longer follow the Force, but they follow politics and use the Force to help them do that. Just. Like. The Sith.

They fought and survived side by side during the Clone Wars followed by a series of brutal duels that saw Anakin lose his limbs and ultimately culminated in Obi Wan becoming a Force Ghost on the first Death Star. To see Anakin return was certainly surprising and shocking to Obi Wan. This no doubt brought out all kinds of guilt, love and sadness but still triumph. It’s a beautiful story. Moreover, Qui-Gon's advice is to leave everything to the discretion of the force. The genie knew the future and what Anakin was destined to do to restore balance in the end. So after Vader/Ani fullfilled his destiny and brought balance to the force by throwing Palpy to death (sequels are not canon to me:P), Obi Wan must have had an insight and acted quickly to teach Anakin the way to a life as a force ghost. also, the fact that Anakin achieved this power in like 10 minutes while Obi Wan needed a much longer time shows that Ani became one with the force. he not only brought balance to the force but also to himself. he even told luke that he saved him already. probably feeling balanced for the first time in his life and maybe not even denying the dark side in him but re-embracing the light, he became a force ghost with ease.

I'm a Star Trek girl, can't help it, crews and starships and strategy will always be my draw, really enjoyed the episodes of Clone Wars where the ship combat and star fighters were integral. That said, the *SINGULAR* most important and drawing element to me in ALL of Star Wars is the fact that Luke never gave up on his loved one and insisted that the "rules of attachment" were *WRONG.* For me personally that resounded so clear and firm. You don't give up, you can run out of time, but you do NOT give up. Love is our greatest, most powerful strength. I still think that having to be trained in this "art" is a bit ridiculous. Before they explained it, I used to think it was the connections to others and love that let people become force ghosts, which was why Obi-wan and Anakin became force ghosts when no one else could do it before (as the Jedi shunned all attachments). I wanted to think that maybe their connections to others had become so strong that they learned to keep those connections to their loved ones after death. And the explanation still worked when working in Qui-gon's voice being heard and Yoda explaning that Qui-gon was still around to Obiwan since Qui-Gon really cared about Obi-wan and Anakin. And it worked with Yoda, since Yoda would have come to realize that his methods to not let the Jedi have attachments led to their defeat, and helped to Anakin turning to the dark side, so maybe he tried not to make the same mistakes with Luke. Yeah... It's headcanon, and cliche. But that's what I like to think at least.

I totally get you, I thought it was something similar too, but I prefer now the canon version because otherwise there would be probably millions of other force ghosts. Lots of past sith & jedi had deep connections with other people; there would be a bunch of sith force ghosts trying to wreak havoc everywhere, itd just be a way different story.

You might be mostly right though. From what I know, we don't know what is required to become a force ghost so love and attachment might have something to do with the technique itself. Would also make sense how Obi-wan could give a sparknotes lesson. Vader didn't care anymore, but Anakin cared about Luke, allowing him to perform it.

Honestly I'm worse. I just have as my headcanon, a Jedi dies, they're a force ghost. That's their after life, their Heaven we have never seen but they become one with the Force without losing themselves. Why don't we see them? Well, if anyone here is religious and have had loved ones die, why haven't you seen them? It isn't that hard to imagine. So it's lazy but I'm annoyed whenever they try to make the ability to be a Force Ghost this secret hidden ability you need to learn. And I'm a Roman Catholic, a traditional one at that ~ so I fully believe that eternal life has requirements. What I mean is it isn't a foreign concept to me that to become a Force Ghost isn't just a 'given'. But it annoys me that it isn't in Star Wars. Don't overcomplicate their eternity, y'know?

@@ahums16 As a fellow Christian, I'm going to say this as nicely as possible: Applying Christian logic to Star Wars doesn't work here. Star Wars is a fictional story with fictional rules. Don't confuse reality and fiction. Having faith in God is good and all, and you are entitled to your own beliefs, but you need to realize that your logic doesn't apply to a fictional story that has nothing to do with Christianity. He brought balance to The Force and understood BOTH sides in his travels, that he just naturally become a Force Ghost on his death the minute he turned to the Light Side again. To add to this, from Legends, one key component that the Force Priestesses taught about becoming a Force Ghost was actually the feeling of Love, which the old Jedi neglected. Something Anakin already knew before and Luke retaught him, so it came natural in many ways for the *embodiment of the force* to naturally lean on these secrets at the end.

When a Jedi kills another living thing what matters most is what’s in his heart when he does. If he kills from hate or anger this may lead to the dark side. But if he kills out of love (as Vader did when he killed the emperor in defence of his son) or in defence of something greater than himself, then he is not aligning himself to the darkness. A Jedi’s reason for killing must always be larger than himself. This also makes it more difficult for a Sith to read a Jedi since emotions like love and self sacrifice are completely foreign to a Sith.

I think part of what people are not considering is the fact that sith are selfish, emotional, and passionate. Anakin coming out from behind Vader and relieving Obi-Wan of his guilt is something Anakin/Vader has to do for himself to continue down his dark path. As long as Obi-Wan harbors guilt and empathy for Anakin, he can never fully give himself over to the dark side, which is why Vader ultimately overthrew Palpatine in the end, because his son harbored those feelings for him. Ashoka harbored those feelings for him. The sith apprentice overthrowing the master is still a sith construct. It's more about Anakin's choice to save his son and forfeit the power he would normally gain from killing his master that cements his soul in the light. Anakin and Vader ultimately are the same person, even if Vader is a very different personality. Vader is Anakin's way of justifying his descent into darkness. I would argue this is why all Sith adopt the "Darth" personality. It allows the Sith Lord to psychologically distance themselves from the acts they perform as a Sith Lord. If Sith truly enjoyed the actions they commit then they'd never gain power, since power in the dark side comes from fear, pain, anger, and passion. The dark side is like a drug, you enjoy it while you're using it, but when it's over your existence is empty, which ultimately fuels one's return to the dark side.

I understand Obi-Wan. He felt lost,we watched Luke battle,but hardly. I can imagine how he rejoiced after Anakin was redeemed. I'm so glad Obi-Wan forgive him. Yoda too. Maybe the Force be with you too :)

I agree. Can´t be redeemed for killing innocent younglings and spending over 20 years searching out Jedi´s to kill them and helping construct a weapon blowing up planets. Please. He faced Palpatine just for his son, not for anything else. Still self serving.
