Swan Song is a great album but in my opinion Heartwork album had some of there best riffs on it. It was a very groundbreaking album. It upset some because they changed there sound but for me and many others all realized they tapped into something very original sounding which really helped solidify Carcass as a standout metal band. I’m definitely not knocking there earlier works as I really enjoyed them as well but Heartwork was a freaking masterpiece of Melodic, Thrash, Hints of Death Metal Mixture of Mayhem the likes that had never been done. Like the gentleman said in this thread, every Carcass riff is wicked. Take care and cheers 🍻!

Death n Roll, Black n Roll genres get so much hate from purists, but they're riffalicious! Basically if you write crushing riffs, I'm down. Always love some Entombed, too! Adding Groove, Doom, Sludge, or Thrash elements to Death and Black metal is almost always a good idea. Your crushing tone doesn't hurt either!

Immense respect for giving Disgorge the attention they deserve. Diego is a criminally underrated guitar player. That band along with Defeated Sanity made me really respect brutal death metal rhythm sections and open my mind to more extreme music.

i dont understand the hate Carcass gets because of Swansong..the riffs are so groovy
@ninjagrinder
@ninjagrinder Жыл бұрын
Most people weren't ready for that change back then. Some of them wanted Carcass to continue doing Symphonies forever and some other wanted them to keep doing Heartwork-like stuff. And some other were just "brootal" kids who cried sell out because there were no blast beats on Swansong. In retrospective, it's a monster of an album and deserves way more recognition. It's too late for that though.
@ortegayecid
@ortegayecid Жыл бұрын
@@ninjagrinder For some of us Carcass - ROP means gore and brutality, when they release Swansong was like a betrayal to that sentiment and then we asked why not change the name of the band if you are doing something different from gore/grind...but I get it.
@ninjagrinder
@ninjagrinder Жыл бұрын
@@ortegayecid when you really like a band (or a director, just put a wider perspective in my example), you follow along their ride. It's THEIRS for them to shape in any way they see fit. Sure, bands are nothing without people who follow them. But you can't possibly hope to please everyone and at the end of the day, their artistic path is way more important than pleasing people who refuse to evolve with them. They realized the whole "gore" and "brutality" was just a joke/phase and their musical and artistic abilities grew with each release. Too bad for the "fans" who couldn't keep up. I think that's one of the reasons Bill Steer lost interest in extreme music and decided to start Firebird. If you really like his guitar work and approach, you'll give Firebird a chance. I did and I loved it. Rest of the people were just trendy kids who didn't get the irony and served them well in terms of merchandising.
@ortegayecid
@ortegayecid Жыл бұрын
@NinjaGrinder it is interesting I just went to their show in Ireland and they still sell merch with the " I reek of putrefacrion" brand I loved that raw sound from the past. I went to the show just to hear Corporal Jigsore Quandary and Carneous Cacoffiny. But I love their side projects a lot.
@ninjagrinder
@ninjagrinder Жыл бұрын
@@ortegayecid of course they're gonna sell merch from the classic albums and play songs from Necroticism, even some from Symphonies from time to time. What did just I say in my previous post? They know what's good for them, they have to make a living. I liked torn arteries, even more than surgical steel, but I'm sure they are just trying to please fans of the whole "melodic" era with their new music. Fortunately, there are still some hints of Swansong and the rot 'n roll vibe. People have come to appreciate that side of them. But in 1995, most of trendy kids just felt... "Betrayed" 🤣
