Speaking of Deicide, they will be playing a small club in New Port Richey in a few weeks with Butler’s new band Inhuman Condition. 🤘🏻

As a swede it hurts to say that riff wise America wins. Sweden has Entombed though, you can't beat that 😁. Nice guitar work!
@Damarenhide3 жыл бұрын
I'm not too sure those presented are generally considered a 'big 4' either in the USA or Sweden...I'm not going to argue against The US selection (except maybe the tracks themselves). You Swedes should know better I'd think, because you have MANY more interesting bands. Even Opeth qualifies I'd think. Parts of Watershed surely, if nothing else.
@Damarenhide3 жыл бұрын
@Alf Lifethis stuff here is more like apples to oranges, or how would Americans describe it. Or apples to wrong apples. Problem being, they are pretty good at death. We, Europeans, tend to be into (more) melodic metal. Not to say I have something against 6 Feet Under (I love them) or Cannibal Corpse or Morbid Angel. Or Brujeria. Or Nile. I have nothing against Messugah (a europen counterpart) either. I think we're worlds apart. As are the continents:)
@Damarenhide3 жыл бұрын
@Alf Life Don't agree about CoF. They're pretty good. As in 'good musically/arrangement wise, great production and visually impressive' But they are British, so they don't count:) None of the other bands are Swedish. CoB are (sorry, were, RIP Alexi Laiho) from Finland. Others are Norwegians. Mayhem was pretty impressive since and including 'The Grand Declaration of War'. Burzum and other shit like that just doesn't count:) I really cannot understand their 'cult' status. Be proud of Dissection (also, RIP) or Dark Tanquillity instead....
@furrreal3 жыл бұрын
@@Damarenhide I do know better but was judging the riffs TheSuffocater selected to performed in the vid. Also I dont consider myself to represent Sweden in general, if I did I would probably not comment on this at all :)
@Damarenhide3 жыл бұрын
@Alf Life Well. I bought my first Burzum album in 1993 (a tape), when they were actually unavailable here. A disappointment. Me just being 'true fan of true blackmetal'. Not knowing anything about composition or music then. I still have it, for better or worse. Darkthrone...(also) just does not offer anything musically. I have all their 3 'real albums', as tr00 kvlt blackmetal guys would say. I did not mention Dark Funeral at all. However, they are the best of your list, and Nils Fjellstrom is f-ing unbelievable. So much so that he is frequently seen on '[insert style] drum teacher is damn amazed' videos. Well, all of the former is besides the point. What I originally said: I'm not sure this particular European (or even the US) list is really representative of any 'big 4'. And I said nothing about the riffs played, which are played marvellously.

Agree, but with the note that UK is a small player in Metal nowadays. Obviously if looking back at bands from 70's & 80's it is a giant. And yes they still play live etc. But bands with breakthrough after that(?) My top 70-80 albums of last year contain maybe 2 UK albums way down in the lists. Compared with 8(!) Swedish albums in top 20 within black/death. These lists are of course a matter of taste, but there is no chance UK can hold up the fight against Sweden in new Metal.

And Hedlund who created Unleashed later was on bass in Entombed demos. I reccomend you 1990 Left Hand Path, 1991 Clandestine and 1993 Wolverine Blues, that albums where their producer Skogsberg created that "bzzzzzzz" death metal sound typical for nordic death school

For me i always prefered Deicide over Morbid Angel because of the overall production of the albums, Death is also my favorite. I know im gonna get heat but Morbid Angel was always the lesser of the big 4 for me, and this coming from someone who went to a Morbid Angel concert.

Swedish dude here who grew up on the Gothenburg melodeath, rather than swedish DM. The only true Death Metal act I've ever gotten really into is Death. Flattening of Emotions is pinnacle Death Metal (sure, it's kind of Tech Death I guess, whatever). I have never heard extreme metal that rivals that kind of prowess in "the completeness of the artistry." The song title itself is really the most brutal song title I've heard. Since I heard Human by Death, no DM really impacts me the same way. I guess I'm kind of an outsider to DM, but to me it seems like Death is the band that produced the most amount of "Death Metal masterpieces." As in truly masterful riffage, melody, use of voice, song structure, emotional impact... The works. I mean, DM is really cool enough by being heavy and brutal, it's all good. I like it when it something more than that, I've only found it in Death. But I should probably look around more. So thanks America, especially for Death. Thanks Chuck - R.I.P.

The pros and main interests you described sure reflect what you grew up with, I can see why you like Death so much. But on average, for being death metal, there are a lot of bands that "do" the genre much better imo. You would definitely have plenty more bands to look for exploring the tech death and prog death areas

Fantastic job! As much as I love Swedish Death Metal it's hard to compete with Chuck and Trey, they are transcendent. Also I'd replaced Entombed with Vomitory any day. And Unleashed with Edge Of Sanity.

Lunatic...of God's creation.... Fall From Grace. Hell yeah! Nice. Didn't expect to see Deicide in there. They're usually under represented and you placed them twice. Death and Cannibal Corpse have the best riffs. Priests of Sodom isn't easy to play. American death metal riffs are just better imo. That being said, i still love me some Entombed, and death metal rules. We are all winners here, and you sir are a shredder! Never stop
