Moment gamer teen is arrested after threatening to shoot up his school online

A Florida high school student was arrested on August 16 after he allegedly posted online that he would use his father’s gun to kill people at his school, police said.
Video released by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shows officers reading to the suspect the alleged comments, which police said were made on a gaming platform under the pseudonym Dalton Banhart.
The comment read: “I Dalton Barnhart vow to bring my fathers m15 to school and kill 7 people at a minimum.” It was spotted by the FBI, who reported it to local police.
According to police, the teenager said the comment was a joke.

If this video made me realize anything is that I have to have a real talk with my son. I need him to understand that even if this kid was joking that the threat is real and will be dealt with in a very real way. My son is a great kid. 15 is not a man. I believe this mother is in denial about her kid, but he's certainly not a man. His frontal lobe (decision making) won't even be fully developed until he's 25. I believe he is a kid who said something stupid without thinking about the consequences which is what 15-year-olds do unfortunately. I play video games (I'm old) and I hear kids saying the most, vile things during game play. The thing parents like this mother in the video need to do is get their kids off the screen. Many of them play violent games for hours and lose sight of reality and in games, there are no consequences.

That exact thought went through my mind when she said that. Dylan Klebold's mom thought she knew her son well enough that even after he and Eric went on their murdering spree and then carried out their own murder/suicide pact she couldn't believe her son was capable of such horrific violence. How would the mother in this video react if her "little boy" was a victim of a school massacre and the shooter had made the same threats but was never arrested for them. She would be all up in the FBI's arses and demanding tougher laws against "little kids" who make terrorist threats. She needs to flip the script and look at this from a different perspective!

There have been metal detectors, security, and high police presence in inner city, high crime schools for decades. alot of those schools (having gone to one) are still super dangerous, even with these measures. We are already in a huge national debt now People are talking about wasting more money we don't have on extra school security that won't even do anything at 99% of public schools. Instead of just changing existing-ineffective-training (like leaving the shooter in the building with kids for almost an hour), we have decided our best course of action is to waste more money these underfunded schools don't have. @@iamamish Maybe I do t understand the context, but imo it goes both ways. Firstly we have the admittedly excessive arrests in the US, it's a world meme tbh. But secondly these things should NOT be taken lightly. A responsible parent and teachers would have drilled into you to take what you post seriously, the delete button doesn't always save you. In particular the rate of gun violence in the US is also quite the meme, and it's similar to an engine. You can have millions of safety systems around a feature, but if the component is not there in the first place it won't go wrong. But understandably guns are kinda here to stay, so it's prudent we contain the risk, so that it remains safe to live in a gun society, even if it means arresting teens for being careless/callous with their words online. The US is a laughingsotck in many areas, thankfully not this time. Such an arrest won't leave a criminal record as far as I'm aware, it won't impact anyone long term, but it will teach the child to be serious before he goes round boasting about sussier stuff like ahem ahem orange man who somehow became president does. All of this discounting the obvious security threat in the event he goes forth with his plan.

They handled it well. I love how quickly they shut the mom up at the end. Edit: I know some people think that this is crazy because people on video games say stuff like this all the time. Before you share your opinion, look at the toll of school shooters that gave a warning to people before hand and they did nothing about it because they thought it was a joke.

When i was 11 years old and made a joke to shoot my friend, i got took to Principal of the school with security and my teacher, and they said they would put the school on lock dowm but the busses was loaded. And i don't blame them for taking it seriously.
