I'm from the Philippines. Kakanin can be considered a dessert (panghimagas), but this kind of food is more of a snack than anything. Kakanin is heavier on the stomach (mabigat sa tiyan), not necessarily something you'd eat after a meal. Popular desserts in the Philippines would include leche flan, maja blanca, braso de mercedes, ube halaya, buko pandan, cassava cake, yema, turon, and the famous, but most beloved halo-halo. It'd be nice for you to have Desserts Part 2, Jessica, so that your guests can experience the sweets that Pinoys are truly famous for making and sharing with others. Good luck!

Leche flan and fruit salad are very western influenced. Kakanin is a very southeast asian staple for dessert. Our leche flan is good, dont get me wrong, but I would prefer creme brulee as that's where you truly enjoy the origin of the dish.

I would love to call these as afternoon snacks rather than desserts since these are a bit heavy to eat and mostly eaten int he afternoon rather than after a meal. I love how the seniors reacted on these rice cakes -- they took time to really provide honest feedback and it's nice to listen to how they are similar to their own. It amazes me how Jessica was able to easily answer the questions from her guests (e.g. are these from a restaurant?) and how confident and happy she sounded when she was introducing the food items. Love it, Jessica. :)

Thank u again miss Jessica. Actually there is one more rice cake that can be found in Leyte, Philippines. I don't know if you heard or tried it already. The name is "moron". It is made of glutinous rice also wrapped in banana leaves. Locals sometimes put cheese or peanuts in it or just the plain flavor. It is in color white and brown combination. The brown color is cooked with tablea/cocoa made of cacao. Hope you'll like it.

It's really nice to see someone who is mixed and thus from different cultures making content that brings awareness of different cultures to each other. Since Asian culture has a lot of similarities, it's not surprising to find what's common between each culture's dishes but since it's not the exact same, it's really nice to see the elders point out what's different while still being able to appreciate and even enjoy the food. I like how the elders remain respectful while giving their honest opinion of each dish, even if they don't prefer them. I hope we can see this from the opposite point of view, Filiipino Grandparents try Korean foods . Nice content, looking forward to watching more.

I really appreciate their comments about the foods. Some people that I've watched before just said that they don't like the foods presented to them but don't explain it further (sometimes they'd make a comment or two about the texture, smell, or the appearance but the lack of info or explanation kinda puts me off). With the seniors, they're sure with what they liked and didn't. They also compare the foreign foods with foods from their country which is really nice in a way that made me want to try their national foods. Also, they take big bites which I appreciate since it makes it easier for them to give proper feedback if they explored the taste (some people just take a nip of their food then claim that they don't like it). Thank you, dear seniors! I would love to see more of you here in the channel.❤️
