I spent months in the Philippines when I was in the military (45yrs.ago) and I absolutely loved the people there! Then 30yrs. ago a huge Filipino family moved in next door and are still there. I'm a mechanic/electronics expert so I would fix their cars/mowers etc for dirt cheap. Every time they cook a huge meal they bring my wife and I a ton of delicious food that takes us days to eat. They are the best neighbors anyone could ever have!!

I'm an American who has lived here in the southern Philippines (Mindanao) for more than 13 years now, and as a big fan of Reactistan, this was exciting to see! These are very common foods eaten throughout the entire country, and yummy too. I hope they can also try some of the tribal foods from here in Mindanao, especially those introduced from the Muslim Filipino (Moro) ethnic groups of this island. The most popular one here in Davao City, as well as the cities of General Santos and Cotabato, is pastil (rice topped with shredded chicken meat or tuna, usually served wrapped in a banana leaf though sometimes on a plate). In other cities here in Mindanao, there's also tiyula itum (a beef soup with a base of spices and charred coconut), daral (a crepe-like dessert filled with sweetened coconut), sinina (beef, chicken, or goat cooked in coconut milk and spices), piaparan (chicken or shrimp stewed in spices, shredded coconut, and coconut milk), and jampok (mashed banana and flour shaped into balls and fried).

@@jaydope4823 Oh I was basically same as you when it comes to frying because I used to burn or overfry things that they become carcinogenic hahaha but after awhile I got the hang of it and I would fry and eat them as well. I have family members who are tops in frying so I'd eat their dishes, but when it's outside dining or eating street foods where you have no control I tend to be very picky and preferential on account of certain essential issues. Nowadays in my 60s, I just tend to shy away from a lot of fried meals except when it's home cooked. Cheers

Halo-Halo literally mean "Mixed or to mix" meaning a mixture of anything. Not that every body saying "Mix-Mix" which really is a bad translation of the word for me. It only is a repeating word of the motion of mixing back and fort. We have a word Araw-Araw which means Everyday. Where Araw is Day/Sun and we don't translate it as Day-Day🤣😂🤣😂 Don't know who ever translated that to MixMix in the 1st place.

As a proud American-Filipino, some of my "most requested" dishes to bring whenever we go to a party/bbq/get-together, etc., is *Lumpia* & *Pancit* (which...somewhat surprisingly,...wasn't presented, here). Pancit, is rice noodles (I've heard some folks refer to it as "Filipino-spaghetti"). Very simple, but when mixed with soy sauce,...sautéed, fresh veggies, & seasonings.... *OUT OF THIS WORLD* !
