I used your DOD Delete videos last year to fix my truck, will probably be watching this one a few dozen times in the future too(hopefully not, but probably).

Lol glad to help! Transmission removal will be getting uploaded in a few weeks.

Steps to extend the life of your 6L80. 1. Disable AFM (DOD) 2. Disable torque converter lock up from 1st to 4th gear. 3. Install a Sure Cool transmission cooler by-pass. 4. Install a heat shield on the exhaust pipe that runs right under the transmission pan.

Good tips and list!

How do you got about disabling the tq lockup on 1st through 4th?
@maldodannyАй бұрын
@@resid3nt get an hptuners MPVI. You can do the torque converter and disable the AFM. A tuner is going to charge you 500-600$. The hptuner will pay for itself in the first use. There are plenty of how to on KZbin.

I definitely prefer doing it in the vehicle than out of the vehicle only because I don't want to have to do extra work.

Nice video indeed. My old torque converter seems to be doing fine so far on my 2015 Silverado. Knock on wood. Lol. I have around 107,400 miles on my truck
@TheSundaeDriveАй бұрын
Thank you! That is right around when they often fail. I replaced mine at 107K and now at 152K and no issues. Been running the sure cool upgrade since around then as well.
@MrRGillerАй бұрын
@@TheSundaeDriveI am hoping mine doesn't go out then. Lol. I don't do much hauling trailers or towing heavy loads and whatnot or heavy loads. How much does a job like this cost roughly to have a new torque converter replaced if mine goes bad? Thanks.
@TheSundaeDriveАй бұрын
Unfortunately when the torque converters fail they often clog the pump which burns out the transmission so normally an entire transmission is required. heat seems to be the killer so I would recommend a new torque converter and the sure cool upgrade.
@TheSundaeDriveАй бұрын
Costs varies depending on if you are 2wd or 4wd
@MrRGillerАй бұрын
@@TheSundaeDriveDang! That will definitely be an expensive repair. Thank you for the information.

Billet converters really are the only solution, stock converters are stamped steel and the ears for the bolts are welded on created more heat against the clutches inside the converter

It’s not a matter of if they fail it’s a matter of when

Is replacing the transmission pump very invasive to a point a trans shop should do it?
@wisky3Күн бұрын
Yes
@wisky3Күн бұрын
At the very least ALWAYS replace the $1 input shaft turbine seal gm #24219390. They get hard from the heat and cause the tcc to slip amd burn up the transmission

What would you recommend for my 6l80e? 2018 5.3 Tahoe Should I upgrade to a 6l90e converter or get a billet converter from oriellys/ autozone . Thanks
@TheSundaeDriveАй бұрын
The stockish torque converters normally will last around 100K it seems. They may last longer with better cooling tho. A billet torque converter should lastonger but you still need to do cooling upgrades. The 6L80E is the same as far the torque converter is concerned as far as I know. My truck technically has the 6L80e
@JoeyBrioso-l9mАй бұрын
@ I already upgraded the cooling thermo bypass and put Amsoil signature tranny Fluid when I bought the Tahoe at 60k. Now it has 80k. I’ll probably buy the TC Reman torque converter from autozone . I’ll be installing it myself . Thanks for your videos
