Great video of the Westing house Pedestal fan! I bought a cheap Mainstay pedestal fan rap around switch for my aunt for that Super pedestal fan I have. It looks similar to a Walmart made fan like the Mainstays but better built. A lot of Five blade fans have that really cool wizzing sound. As u said it’s not a bad fan.
@TheSuperFanMan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt! Neat, I think I remember seeing that Mainstays model before. Quality wise, I think it’s pretty similar to most Mainstays fans. The blades and the base make it look a tad bit more premium I suppose. Yep, not too bad so far! I’ll have to see how well it holds up over time.

Are basic home pedestal fans that boring in Canada & the States? Seems like US & Canadian fan collectors tend to freak out whenever they see a basic house fan that have non monochromatic colours & more than 3 blades. It's interesting how in some markets manufacturers offer electric fans that are colorful & bright, and in other markets they only chug out fans that are all white
@TheSuperFanMan2 жыл бұрын
Trust me, black and white are the only options on the majority of fans sold here. Very boring indeed! Seeing coloured transparent blades on a cheaper fan was kind of a treat. You guys are lucky that the diversity of fan styles is much bigger overseas lol.

The blue blades are really cool. I just purchased a 12" floor fan from Ventisol that has yellow blades. I had never heard of that brand so I did a bit of research on their website. I feel it was a great purchase. It has a ball bearing motor that is guaranteed for 5 years! I have never seen anything like that. It moves 1560 cfm, which is great for a bedroom. It came out of the box ready to go and was totally balanced. It also has a long spin down time. For what I received I thought it was a good price at $45 US. Your knowledge and expertise of fans is amazing and I am wondering if you have had any experience with this brand. I can't find anyone on youtube that has a video about this particular fan. Thanks for all of your cool and informative vudeos!

Thanks! I’m not too familiar with Brazil’s selection of fans, but you may be able to find something online. Of course, if you import a fan from another country, you may need a transformer to run it. Also the transparent fan blade design seems to be a pretty recent trend comeback in North America, so it’s possible that it might spill over to other countries overseas. Hope you can find something!

I almost got myself one of these but I decided to not get it because I really didn’t want to spend more money on another fan. I have no idea why keeping the 'Westinghouse' name alone even though Westinghouse Appliances division was acquired by White Consolidated Industries (WCI) and now known as 'White-Westinghouse'. Might this fan I called the 'Westinghouse' alone or the 'White Westinghouse'. Despite that naming issues, I would to compete it with your vintage Mastercraft stand fan!
@TheSuperFanMan2 жыл бұрын
Good point, but I think the use of just “Westinghouse” gets more attention from people than “White Westinghouse” because of their long history. Since these new fans are just rebranded generic fans, I’m guessing the naming wasn’t very significant. That’d be a neat comparison video! I’ll definitely write it down and try to film it if I have time.
@PanaikinElectric2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSuperFanMan Could be, I think White-Westinghouse fans are reverted back to the 'Westinghouse' alone for fans since 2018 as what I remembered. And I did noticed this design is shares the Sekai stand fan. Probably Sekai had bought the generic fan like this one, and using their brand.

I just noticed we seem to get a similar fan here in The US that's branded Holmes, so I agree this is likely from the same company that makes Sunbeam and Holmes. It doesn't have the same colors though. Also watching this again, I noticed this doesn't have a fused plug. Is that common on new fans in Canada to have unfused plugs?
@TheSuperFanMan2 жыл бұрын
I noticed that as well. The design of this fan is so similar to the Sunbeam/Holmes model. Yep, I don’t think Canada’s standards require fused plugs on most appliances, so the majority of fans here just have plain plugs. But there are still some fans that come with fused plugs to be “extra safe.” Vornado fans for example, still have fused plugs in Canada.

@coled50902 жыл бұрын
Not bad looking, I like the blue blades. It vaguely reminds me of the Rowenta fans, just vaguely. I have not seen any of these at Walmart here in the United States, or portable fans under the Westinghouse name here. I do remember we got a Duracraft/Honeywell 12" pedestal with the 3 skinny blades under that name, and Kmart used to sell White Westinghouse which I think was their exclusive brand which were mainly rebadged Duracrafts and SMCs. I think many fans start with high, because it helps start the fan better. Also that five blades seems to have that whirring similar to my GE five blade desk fan, must be a characteristic of 5 blades. LOL
@TheSuperFanMan2 жыл бұрын
Rowenta fan, that’s what I was trying to think of when I saw this fan! It does have some similarities blade-wise. I believe Canada also had those Duracraft/Honeywell 12” fan and the White Westinghouse too. The quality of this fan is definitely inferior to either of those models. Yeah that’s a good point. I wonder if that’s also a tactic manufacturers are using to get away with using weaker motors. I’ve noticed that there is an increasing number of household fans that use that off-3-2-1 sequence. The blade count definitely seems to correspond with the noise characteristics. More blades = more whirrrr

I bought the same fan a couple of weeks ago from Walmart as well. It is not bad, but not great. Very flimsy feeling. When you you the oscilating feature your hear a constant clicking/clunking noise and with the oscilating feature turned off you hear a partial clicking noise like it wants to osicilate . Overall I am not impressed with it, typical modern cheap throwaway product. I will be surprised if it lasts throw this summer.
@TheSuperFanMan2 жыл бұрын
Ay nice! Yeah I share the same opinion. Mediocre at best.. It sounds like you might have gotten a lemon. Perhaps there’s a loose part in the gearbox or a poorly trimmed piece that’s causing the click. I think this fan will last if it’s well maintained and oiled, but you’re right, for most consumers, this fan would be a throwaway item. People tend to throw fans out when they seize up or get too dirty.

why Westinghouse fans should have fused plugs yours don't have one if you can get a fused adapter for fans it will be safer
@TheSuperFanMan2 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: most fans sold in Canada don’t have fuses in the plugs. It’s a standard that’s mostly regulated in the States for extra protection. The fuse in the plug is a current fuse, meaning it will blow when the fan draws past the fuse rating during some sort of an electrical failure. In most cases, the thermal fuse in the motor will do the job just fine.

These fans are horrible. There is a line of plastic acting as a spine which is held in by a single screw. Whenever someone attempts to aim it downwards it will put force on this fragile plastic spine causing it to snap. This will leave you will a useable working top fan with no anchor to keep it upright and a useless stand. There is no way to fix it with hot glue.
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
Most pedestal fans are constructed the same way, the difference being how well that area is reinforced. Sadly most newer fans have little regard for longevity, so they're poorly designed and they tend to break easily.
