As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualified purchases.
This is my summary of Joel Greenblatt - founder and managing partner at Gotham Capital/inventor of “The Magic Formula” - and his book: You Can be a Stock Market Genius.
More from Joel Greenblatt (The Little Book That Beasts the Market): • THE LITTLE BOOK THAT B...
Top 5 takeaways from Joel Greenblatt’s You Can be a Stock Market Genius:
01:26 1. Spinoffs
03:38 2. Merger Securities
06:17 3. Risk Arbitrage
08:37 4. Restructurings
10:30 5. How to act in all special situations
My goal with this channel is to help you make more money and improve your personal finances. How to become a millionaire? There are many ways to get there - investing in the stock market, becoming a stock trader, doing real estate investing, or why not becoming an entrepreneur? But whether you are interested in how to invest in stocks or investing strategies for creating passive income with rental properties - I hope to be able to provide you with a solution (or at least an idea) here. Warren Buffett - the greatest investor of our time - says that you should fill your mind with competing ideas and then see what makes sense to you. This channel is about filling your mind with those ideas. And in the process - upgrading your money-making toolbox.

Please consider creating pdfs from all your video takeaways so that we, your subscribers, can put reminders on our walls, in our wallets, refer people to your KZbin channel, etc. I am enjoying the content and your presentation style. A great refresher on some books and putting a few new books on my read list. This content is very shareable with my children to start conversations around finances as well. Thanks.

Thank you North Wet Coast for your support and for this comment. Very interesting to hear that you are using the content to talk about finance with your kids as well, thank you for sharing. I will consider your suggestion as well. Do you mean small cards basically, with just one sentence? Like "Pay Yourself First"?

@@TheSwedishInvestor I think wallet cards with the takeaways may be helpful if clear enough. I was thinking that having all the takeaways (per video) on one letter size sheet or each takeaway on separate letter size sheets would be most practical. These could be posted on a wall of an office, bedroom, lunchroom, etc. or used as a background on your computing device of your choosing. This could be utilized on and offline to drive viewers to a website, your KZbin channel, etc. In paper form on a wall you will have a lot more eyeballs on your information that may not normally see it and thus again driving people to your KZbin Channel, etc.. Most people like a giveaway. Cheers!

Thanks for providing another book summary to us! I had a question regarding as all are spectulating that we are around a crash for last several year. Then all of them suggest we should have cash to dive in once that happens. My question is where or what would be the way to keep/stash our cash /hard saved money. Any help/suggestions would help a lot of us I guess.

Thank you for your support Jeet Singh and for your great question. I think that it's useful to look for individual companies and try to find bargains, there are still some out there even though the market is valued at a high multiple currently. If you can't find enough of them to invest all of your capital, I would buy assets that can quickly be turned into cash to use once bargains start to present themselves again (presumable after a crash or correction). Treasury bills of governments with great credit ratings are good for this.

Love this channel! I have a question, may i know if a public listed company A, have subsidiaries 1, 2, 3, 4 under the group structure. Does that consider as spin off? Those subsidiaries are not yet publicly listed, but they are different corporations supporting the parent company itself. Those subsidiaries are trading, production, distribution of the parent company. Thanks for your time!
@sbtopjosh4098
@sbtopjosh4098 Жыл бұрын
No they are not a spinoff. Yet. They are only spin-off if the holding company sells a good portion of that stock to a buyer or listing it.

How can one dig up this information from these stocks. You don't have to be an insider for this? For example, if a company decides to do a restructuring, how can one know which division is leaking and therefore be cutting lose and how can one know which one has better earnings and will be kept? Is this info online? Is this info at a 10-K form for example or some other sec filling ? Which is the better place to start digging?
@TheSwedishInvestor
@TheSwedishInvestor 4 жыл бұрын
Great questions Ivo Vicente. You can find information in 10-Ks - the keyword is often something like "segment". Even though quantitative information isn't always available in the form of segmented reporting, you can often find hints about which businesses (within the business) are doing well and which ones are doing not so well by reading the president's letter & the MD&A. The form 8-Ks report on actual acquisitions and divestitures.

I know the general theme of your channel is optimism- that's awesome- but would you consider doing a review of a recent book read- "Dead Companies Walking"? It's by a retired hedge fund guy who ran a short selling fund prior to 2016. It's kind of a red pill reality check. The book is a little depressing in some respects cause it bursts everyone's bubble. He goes into detail about how idiotic companies can literally stay afloat for years on nothing more than false positives, hype, hope and Pollyanna style optimism. He actualy attended a presentation where the former head of Enron Lay gave a ridiculous speech about how great he and Enron were- the passage in the book is (in hindsight) hilarious. He was dead on right with the companies he targeted BUT unlike fing notorious short seller Andrew Left he didn't shout out or publicize his selections- he just made money for his investors. How about it?

I have been trading with virtual money on eToro and I am up 27% over the last 8 months. Is this normal or is eToro messing with me to make me start trading with real money? [edit] 27% with no prior experience. Diversified across technology stocks, commodities and cryptocurrencies.
@RomilCPatel
@RomilCPatel 4 жыл бұрын
Kasunsu Edger That’s normal if you’re trading volatile assets like cryptocurrencies. Also it depends on what timeframe you’re trading. Many day traders make 1000%+ annually, but they trade derivatives not just the underlying. As for swing traders many make a few hundred percent, but again they usually use options not just naked underlying positions. If you’re holding longer term positions in both tech stocks and commodities I would recommend you short delta 10 calls when the IV rank spikes on those underlyings.

It's the same as almost any other (profitable) investing strategy. Opportunity does show itself, but not all the time, and it is not recognizable by everyone. These situations are reoccurring though, and for the smaller investor, there are absolutely enough opportunities to make a hefty return. Look at smaller stocks and/or outside of your domestic market 👍
