great video once again!! my favorite pulse waver? Mr. Mxy!!

Didn't get my hands on Mr. Mxyzptlk (got two Eclipso and two Steppenwolf instead). Giving two action tokens is a very good variant of Pulse Wave, indeed.

Fuzzywumple - with that ATA and with a character with stealth, pulse wave line of fire can't be drawn?
@Fuzzywumple8 жыл бұрын
Everything I have been able to find on the subject indicates that this is correct. Since lines of fire cannot be drawn, pulse wave cannot ignore the effect. hcrealms.com
@TheTabletopTeacher8 жыл бұрын
Good question. And it is a question of some debate on different forums... Here's my key to reading this: "these lines of fire ignore ***all*** game effects except for walls, blocking and elevated terrain." An additional team ability like "Midnight Sons" is a game effect*; it is therefore ignored. To be safe from a Pulse Wave, you would need two things: - Lines of fire cannot be drawn to this character (in "such and such circumstances"). - This "power or ability" cannot be ***ignored***. That second part is very important. If a power or ability does not specifically say it cannot be ignored, then it can be ignored, therefore the associated game effects don't work against the Pulse Wave. The Pulse Wave's lines of fire ignore everything but walls, blocking and elevated terrain. They don't "counter" anything, but they do ignore almost everything. So, yes, a line of fire can be drawn to characters with the Midnight Sons ATA within the area of effect of the Pulse Wave. * Heroclix Glossary references: GAME EFFECT: See "EFFECT" EFFECT: A power, ability, or other rule than can affect a game.

There is one big common misconception with Pulse Wave's half range. That is that Pulse Wave Halves the character's range. Which would be a replacement value. However, Pulse Wave does *not* halve the range. instead it establishes an Area of Effect that equals half of the character's range. this might seem like nitpicking. But it is actually important when it comes to modifiers. Since we are not halving the range value,but instead use half of it, we need to completely calculate the Range value with both replacements and modifiers before we halve it. E.g. If we have a range value of 5 and it's modified by +1. If Pulse Wave halved the range value it would have reached 4 squares. 5/2=2.5 (round up to 3) 3+1 =4 But as the AoE is half of the character's range it'll be just 3. 5+1 =6 6/2 =3

Thanks for making that clearer here. It's the type of thing I plan on addressing in the video I'll eventually make on Perplex (and how it's often lost on characters that have an odd-numbered range). Your thoughts?
@2mirandir8 жыл бұрын
The Tabletop Teacher I think the whole "replace-then-modify" is a bit wonky and a bit of counterintuitive as things that change a combat value isn't calculated in the order they're applied but rather in order of type and player choice.

So sorry... Thought I replied weeks ago! You are quite right, of course. When trying to explain powers to new players, it's easy to fall in a few language traps and, though I try to avoid them, I sometimes spring them. Thanks for adding those important clarifications. Your input is always very much appreciated. I thank you and I'm sure all the other players, new and not so new to the game, watching this channel thank you as well.

How does War Machine move that far with Telekinesis? I thought Telekinesis could only move a max of 6 squares from the starting square? Sorry, I'm really new and have been trying to learn through your channel. The videos have been a tremendous help, so I really appreciate it :)

Takion. His special on his movement: Takion can use hypersonic speed and pulse wave. When he uses hypersonic speed he can use Pulse wave instead of a ranged combat attack.
@TheTabletopTeacher7 жыл бұрын
Oooh! A Pulse Wave within Hypersonic Speed is brutal. Have you tried starting with Highfather, switching to Takion on click 4 and be lucky enough for Steal Energy to land you back on that special power? Seems like fun (never tried it myself, mind you). Thanks for watching and sharing!

Thank you very much. It's hard not to be a fan of Validus... And a wild card on top of that. I like to have Mystics with him.

I remember the 60 point Nova that has Pulse Wave with a locked damage value of 2 became a VERY popular ID card call in when the 30 point drones came out in Age of Ultron. Could potentially 1 hit KO an entire swarm team! Personally I'm a huge fan of the Sunfire, both the regular and the Prime, from UXM. Brimstone I've played against a lot and have come to hate :') With that range he can be surrounded by Toymaster, Baxter Stockman, Juston Seyfert, all that support, and he always seems to be able to work out a single target pulse wave because he can choose the square it originates fro >:( My favourite pulse wave piece would probably be Riptide though - free action after a Sidestep so can do it every turn, plus a short range means unlikely to get your own team in the blast and a printed 1 damage anyway means you're not worried about making it singe target!
@TheTabletopTeacher7 жыл бұрын
Gotta love (or hate when you play against him) Brimstone ;o)! I just got Riptide recently and can't wait to find the right opportunity to play him.

Riptide is great for pulse wave he has a standard movement of 9 plus sidestep (eleven squares natural which is half the map)and a white attack ability to use pulse wave as a free action if he used sidestep, combine a few of these and a taxi like overdrive who can produce the charged up vehicle and carry 4 passengers add in proteus to boost a ridptide's combat values and you could get a solid competitive team that can swarm and pulse wave.
@davewebster67178 жыл бұрын
35 UXM057P Proteus 45 UXM014 Riptide 45 UXM014 Riptide 45 UXM014 Riptide 45 UXM014 Riptide 35 SFSM029 Overdrive 250 + resource of choice like pandora's box and some low point call ins for id cards (gonna get a few good ones in the Jokers wild set) then you have a character that could potentially sidestep pulse wave single target with an 11 att for 2 damage the call in a character like green lantern or flash too do a bit more...
@TheTabletopTeacher8 жыл бұрын
So sorry... Thought I replied weeks ago! Riptide is indeed an amazing figure, and a common at that! Your proposed strategy is brutal! Thanks for sharing. I'm counting 290 points before the IDs... Unless there's something I got wrong. I plan to publish a video on carrying at some point... I should make sure to talk about Overdrive in there (thanks for the inspiration). Spoiler: Wish I got Proteus in my Uncanny X-Men unboxing... I could try out that very interesting team. Again, thanks for sharing!

The Tabletop Teacher Pandoras box does not need to be played at full cost you may get up to 4 id cards in there depending on how you play the resource. some of the Jokers wild JSA figs are quite deadly as call in's

I would've loved to hear a shout-out to Gate Guardian. I'd understand not explaining how to fuse it into being super-awesome, but a locked 3 damage + knockback + action tokens = a truly amazing PW! It really feels like it's coming out of Dragon Ball Z or [insert action anime here].

Every once in a while, I throw in a Yu-Gi-Oh figure in the mix, but as I mentioned in your comment attached to the "Do I Have To?" video, I don't have every figure. Gate Guardian is incredibly strong! Wouch! He would have been an interesting example of very special Pulse Waving figures. Thanks for commenting.

Can you do a video where you look at the super underrated Iron Maiden Heroclix set? That set has what I think is one of the most overpowered minis that I currently own, which is Powerslave with it's incredible Mind Control power
@TheTabletopTeacher8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. Interesting idea... Although, since I have new players in mind when creating the videos, I'm thinking it might be hard for people to get their hands on older sets (Iron Maiden is a 2013 set). I plan to make videos where I explore a handful of figures for casual play in recent sets. I like the idea, though... Who knows, I just might do that sometime; a blast from the past concept. Thanks for the idea!

There's a whole bunch of oddball sets out there like Street Fighter, Gears of War, Halo, Assassin's Creed and even Star Trek. All before they even started doing weird sets like Yu-Gi-Oh and TMNT My personal favorites are Iron Maiden and the Batman Classic TV Series, both of which I have every single mini in the collection, including the Batmobile

Validus has to be one of my favorites too! can you clear something up for my Clix group? isn't it true that pulse wave also ignore enemy characters mystics team ability?
@TheTabletopTeacher7 жыл бұрын
It's true; the Mystics team ability can't activate in a Pulse Wave. It helps to think of it this way: when the Pulse Wave activates, imagine all the powers in the area of effect turning off. Mystics is not "on" when the Pulse Wave hits, just as if the characters did not the team ability for that attack. It would have required a different wording for it to work... If the wording had been something like "If at the end of your opponent's turn, this character (Mystics) took damage from an attack, deal 1 unavoidable damage to each attacker, for each attack'". But the wording of Mystics says "***When*** a character ***using*** the Mystics team ability takes damage from an attack (...)", while the wording of Pulse Wave says "(...) game effects possessed or ***used*** by characters with a line of fire drawn to them are ignored until the action has been resolved". Mystics TA is ignored in a Pulse Wave. Thanks for watching and commenting!
