I don't often comment on videos, but I feel compelled to do so on this one. Your presentation is excellent. The video was well lit and in focus where many are not. You did not waste time with the typical "look what's in MY bag" off topic nonsense. Comparing the three bags side by side is an excellent idea and I greatly appreciate it. Going to a website and moving from page to page just is not the same as you have so nicely done for us here. Thank you for the video.

Well, I watched this video at least once before, when I was agonizing over the perfect backpack to buy. I'm drunk and sour, so there's lot's of unpleasant things I wanna say to anyone that will listen, but I won't, because I'd love to buy this dude a beer. He really helped me figure out what I wanted. this is the best backpack I've ever had. I just got back from south america (I put it through a decent bit of abuse before that) for six months. This was my edc to the extent that I cant really stop taking it with me everywhere, even though I dont think I need it. This is a great backpack, and I cant wait to buy the other two. thanks homes

Thank you so much for this review. I just got my Rush 24 2.0 yesterday and I was having some buyer’s regret thinking I should have gotten the 72. Mind you I use my backpack primarily as an EDC bag. Your review however, convinced me that the 72 really is a little too big for an EDC. If you need more room, you should just buy another bag in addition to your EDC bag, but clearly based on your review, if you could only buy one of the three to use both for some hiking, and as an EDC bag for work, the 24 appears to be the one. Liked & Subscribed.

Thank you for taking the time to record the video. I've been looking at the 72 online. I also like the PALS options. My concern is the yoke system and me being 6'4". My current "trunk" bag rides too low on my back and is uncomfortable.The Kelty's have the adjustable yoke but no PALS.

I completely agree with your concern. If you where to buy the pack directly from 5.11 you have I think 30 days to return it if you're not happy with it. You'll pay a bit more than place like eBay or Amazon but at least you know you have the option of returning should it not fit well.

It’s very unlikely I’ll have the time to put together that video. But, it’s been a very long time since I’ve flown anywhere (26 years) and I can say the 72 loaded out wouldn’t be allowed as carry on. I used packs the size of the 24 many times as carry on but I also traveled with very little. Very very little.

Apparently, anything tactical looks "too big" on a woman in midtown. I'm 5'10"/220 and have gotten offers to carry a pack comparable to the 12 for me, along with hesitant questions along the lines of "isn't that kind of...big?" No, doofus; it's not big, it's serious! I've always wondered if I'd get the same reactions with a tactical bag in pink instead of black or olive!
@GearReviewDepot
@GearReviewDepot 7 жыл бұрын
justalurkr I personally like the "tactical" look but it all comes down to usefulness, if the pack serves a purpose then I'm on board. Luckily I don't care how it looks or what people think, if they don't like how it looks then don't look! Lol As long as you're happy with it and it serves you well, then I say run with it. Can a pack be pink but still considered "tactical" looking? lol
@justalurkr
@justalurkr 7 жыл бұрын
TheTacticalDefender I will never know because I'd rather schlep a tote than anything pink. We never had to evacuate the building in a real emergency or they would have appreciated that mean looking bag a lot more. I carry a trauma kit and a pry bar, among other useful things. Also, what pouch are you using for your first aid kit? By the way, I am a diabetic on insulin too. Thanks for a great video. Oh, and Ii use the 5.11 covert 18 as my EDC bag. It has a concealed carry pocket. Kinda in between the Rush 12 & 24.

TheTacticalDefender I am trying to organize maps, and field stuff, masks gloves mini med kit and maybe 550 paracord. My current field bag is a sling and as much as I don’t like the sling the bag organization is great. But it’s standing a bit too bulky.

I carry in my EDC pack 3 Vanquest pouches. One pouch has my Diabetes supplies, the second pouch has a first aid kit in it and the third pouch has stuff like charging cables, a Anker battery, a light, a few extra batteries and an extra SD card along with some other things. All three pouches are the same size and color but I have different color velcro strips that let me know what's in the pouch. I have a red velcro strip for the med pouch, a white strip for my Diabetes pouch and a yellow strip for the cables, batteries pouch. Works well so far, been using this system for about 2 years now with very little changes.

Hi, loved the review, very complete. I have one question tho; I'm a student and I have been looking for a nice backpack that will last long and that I could use for everything in my daily routine: Going to school (Carrying books, pencil case, laptop...), to the Gym, shopping... as I use every day my bike to go everywhere so I need it to be secure, comfortable and well tight to my body. I have been thinking of getting either the Rush 12 (Which I think it might be a little bit small) or the 24. Wich one do you recommend me ? Could I fit a 15" MacBook Pro in both backpacks ? P.S. I'm 6 feet tall and weight 160 pounds. (Male)
@GearReviewDepot
@GearReviewDepot 7 жыл бұрын
Franky I'm sure the 12 would work I feel you could possibly run out of room in the near future. The 24 is a little big for edc/school but being as tasll as you are it would carry better on your back and you'll never have a need for more room.
@fran7688
@fran7688 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much ! But could you fit a 15" Mac in the Rush 12 ? This is turning into one of the most difficult decisions of my life XD. 12 or 24 ? Could I carry I my gym clothes and shoes plus my laptop and all my school material (books, etc...) at the same time in the Rush 12 ? Or is the 24 better for that ?
@GearReviewDepot
@GearReviewDepot 7 жыл бұрын
Franky Definitely the 24 is the way to go. A 15" laptop would fit in the 12 alone but as you fill the pack with other items it will get tight in there. The 24 would allow for more room for the laptop. Have you looked at the packs from Vanquest? They make great gear.

Ok thanks a lot, I really appreciate your help. My other option was the Direct Action Dragon Egg Mk2 but it "only" has 25 L of capacity which has the same capacity has the Rush 12 (24 L, practically the same), so based on what you are telling me, my more than sure final choice is the Rush 24. Better to be able to share space than to ask for space. Thanks !!!

I’m pretty sure these will be my go toos. Selling the rest. Honestly...it’ll probably easily cover the cost of the two packs. Those with my large backcountry pack will be more than I need. Excellent review. Between you and Sootch and another channel....I’m sold. Thank you.

I completely agree! Luckily they are starting to realize the value of social media especially using people like myself that use, test and will evaluate their products in the "real" world. I have and use lots of packs for making product reviews and I can honestly say 5.11 Tactical along with Vanquest Gear are at the very top of my personal use list. I've tested/used lots of packs and I always seem to go back to the 5.11 RUSH line of packs. Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos, much appreciated. Be safe out there.

Got my Rush 24 today. First thoughts it's heavy. Very heavy especially compared to the Jakaari s. The chest strap seems to rest right under my chin across my neck. Doesn't feel as comfortable but I haven't used it yet so early days. Hopefully I'll grow to love it. Made me feel better about my Savotta purchase. Still not used either yet. I think I may look for a smaller bag at some point. Maybe.. Also I thought it was expensive.. I'll update my thoughts on both as I go along... It was the side pockets that made me go with the 24 over the 12 but on first looks the side pockets are maybe not so important afterall.
@GearReviewDepot
@GearReviewDepot Жыл бұрын
Yeah, These types of "tactical" style backpacks are heavier than traditional hiking backpacks. This style is all I've used personally so it's nothing to me but I have friends with more traditional style packs and they hate the heaviness as well as other features. To me, they'er perfect... I wouldn't use anything else. The sternum strap can be moved but it'll also run high if you wear your pack lower on your back. I wear my packs higher to reduce any strain on my lower back. This is easier for me because I rarely wear the waist belt (if it has one) if at all.

Rolando Maldonado No worries my friend. The sternum strap sits perfectly where it belongs with the 24. If you're 6'3" and pushing 270lbs I'd definitely go with the 24. The 72 would be too big and the 12 would be far too small for your frame. 24 is the way to go.

I would like to have a bag I can use for long camping trips or hiking, so I need ample room for gear, but I also would need to use it for school, to carry heavy books and things. Would the 72 look to big, and would the 24 be to small to carry all my gear/school supplies. I'm thinking about buying the 'double tap' color because it's more urban looking.
@GearReviewDepot
@GearReviewDepot 7 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the 72 although heavy compared to more traditional hiking or camping backpacks is great for those trips, it's a huge bag (although heavy) and can hold lots of gear as well as lots of options to strap gear to the outside using the PALS webbing. As for an EDC or school pack I feel it's too big. I actually know a few people that really do use it as an EDC pack and they said it's hardly ever full but they do like having the extra room if needed. I personally use the 72 when I'm going into the woods with lots of gear for the day, food, cameras along with all my other usual crap including the products I'm reviewing that day. As for an EDC bag I use the 12, it's far too small for hiking and camping (for me) but absolutely perfect for the crap I carry every day. Now, the 24 is really the perfect "overall" or "all around" pack, great for hikes, a light over nighter and can even be used as an EDC pack but not be too big. As for a long hike or a long camping trip I feel the 24 would be too small, one night out maybe but nothing longer than a weekend. It would work if you are a ultra light camper or hiker but then that means you probably wouldn't be using any of the RUSH packs. They are all great but they'er not very light. In a perfect world and money wasn't an issue I feel the 72 for camping and long hikes would be best and the 24 for EDC/school and short day hikes would be best but together you're looking at around $250 or a little less. Hope this answer helps a little.

@@GearReviewDepot Thanks... I see 5.11 sell a 'h20 carrier' molle/pals pouch although it's £25 with shipping. Looks like you could fit drinks in the back pouch in the little pockets.. I like those resealable Monster cans. Anyway I was having a hard time deciding between the 12 and the 24. I thought the 24 looks a little big from all the pictures of people wearing it. Looking at the dimensions though it is only about 1" bigger in height, length and width so that didn't sound so much bigger. The 12 was £68.40 and the 24 is £90 both in ranger green at the time of writing. The extra pockets made me want the 24 over the 12. Plus more space for to use it for a few days out. Which ever one I ordered I'll probably have wished I got the other size lol. Oh I ordered the 24 forgot to say.

I agree. The only problem with that is that the pockets would be internal with the zipper on the outside like the 24, but when you fill the pocket then you lose some room on the inside. Or if you load the inside first then your pocket gets too small to be of any use. It works with the 24 because it's a larger pack. But you're right, a pocket on the side for items that aren't bulky would be nice.
