I'm still getting comments so here's what's up: Shoggy (the author) has not finished Penal Legion yet. He's begun writing and posting it, but what's up is only about 1/2 to 3/4 done at the moment, and there's not currently news from him on the next posting. I do not like splitting things up into chunks (and only used to do it to keep upload speed up), so I am waiting for him to finish writing this part before I finish reading and editing it. I have no idea when this will be, but this pinned comment is to give people the rough news on when it will be available.

It's nice to know that Sisitats is as much of an a-hole to everyone else as he is to his own subordinates. And that his plans for intentionally impeding said subordinates are as poorly-thought-out as the ones that did so by accident. I also enjoy how the ship's log guys try to hide the prisoners' involvement in saving the ship from Warp nasties...but outright state that Doc helped them clean up the mess afterwards.

So I did check. The story was last updated May 2021. The chapter after this is currently Work in Progress. If you go to the website (just google All Guardsman Party) you will find that the person writing is not putting the story in focus as much as he used to (considering he made 20 chapters in a very short time and then stopped).

It's great to finally hear how Oak views the team. Well it was obvious no sane person would dismiss the team as idiots. They are a group of guards REFUSING to die no matter what impossible size or number of enemy does the universe throws at them after all. Also explosives solve EVERYTHING. Every. Single. Horror setting. EVER! Can be easily resolved with suppressive fire and explosives.

Heavy, Cutter, and Crisp died. Cutter and Crisp both died as part of a gambit to take down a target that the team had otherwise no realistic ability to face. Cutter might have died even if he hadn't done it, to be fair. Heavy... died to a totally predictable friendly psyker malfunction. Which, in terms of the all guardsmen party, means he died like a bitch. Who the hell actually dies when someone shoots them in the back of the head in this day and age, I swear.

The Guardsmen have a great intuition for survival at all costs... which makes this whole thing about their reputation as incompetents left out of the general planning of operations even more ironic when Oak finds them literally right about to escape and, against all odds, ruin the plan which is using them as "bait"... @@OpiatesAndTits That was exactly it. Because they captured the Demonnid the shockwave that killed almost all of the Astropaths in the system happened. Because that happened Sarge blundered and told them it was their fault instead of "We'll look into it" like he should have. Because of that the Astropath in charge labelled them all as heretics and traitors and they were under investigation. Because of that when they went to the system "James Really Sucks At Cards" the Arbitaes Traffic Officer probably recognized them from the bulletin and decided, under orders of the Sorceress, to just generally be a nuisance and keep them busy while she dealt with the "real threats". And because of that both her and Bane Johns were killed by them naturally deciding "F**k our current inquisitor and interrogator" when Sarge was named the acting inquisitor of the other team and commenced and completed "Operation Kill All of Our Old Bosses". And finally, because of that, they were arrested by the Arbitaes and put on a ship in quite possibly the least secure possible way en route to where they would be needed next. Edit: And this is is all not including the quasi-Heretical Xenos research facility that was almost completely destroyed when they delivered the damned thing too it. Because when you have a bunch of Guardsmen who's kill count includes, but isn't limited too, 3 Traitor Marines, approximately a dozen demon hosts, approximately hundreds of Orks and approximately thousands of actual heretics and traitors (including an entire f**king temple occupancy of the Chaos God of War) then you want those Guardsmen exactly where they will do the most damage to whatever is currently threatening to annihilate the Imperium. As a final note, I apologize for any mis-spellings of things in my above post. Also sorry about the Necro post.

@@morgantaylor84 that traffic officer Aka arbites liaison to the Jack Hive traffic patrol was not a conspiracy member. Especially since inquisitor asshat (Sisatak?) installed him as governor marshal which I didn’t catch on my first listen through. Oak also explicitly said all traitors were sent on the bad inquisition agent honey pot convoy presumably he or the warp storms generated by the demontropes impact on the sector destroyed. I didn’t understand OP’S comment because they usually do follow orders if only creatively and up to point where in some part due to nubby the mob boss artifact mission was scrubbed they were following orders really well (except the whole arguing with sisatak about killing the other team which he could have cleared up rather than barking orders). From that moment on they went to a bit “rogue” of course killing Angelica and Bane was probably more within the spirit of Oaks original orders and made the arbites smuggling and aforementioned stuff like evil honey pot trap convoy possible. I’m still not sure what orders he meant but I agree not shooting/going to great lengths to deliver the demonthrope made it all possible since quite literally the Astropath incident and subsequent space station shootout were the ammo the conspiracy needed to get after Oak. Of course that’s more from sarge’s total incompetence than anything else. I can’t imagine the commitment to RP it took to drop that tidbit

@@OpiatesAndTits They certainly were creative with how they chose to follow orders and the equipment they procured/pilfered/used, that's for sure. Though they did complete every mission they were given, though the things about them "losing" the evidence wasn't them not following orders. It was a failure of Inquisitor Asshat to inform them of what was expected of them once they were en route to the Inquisition Headquarters for trial. They couldn't of failed orders they were literally never given in the first place. That being said, that arbites sure was dedicated to his job.

So I actually asked Shoggy some questions about this episode. A whole lot of other stuff occurred and I got some background info on the 'notoces' if anyone wants me to share. Also...apparently those arbite trainee guards got to go for a spin in the washing machine during Oak's little info dump. They sadly were making too much noise and asked to keep it down.

@@fragarach97 Well Laundry Room B was destroyed by 2 factors. Twitch deciding he could use industrial cleaning supplies to make a military grade bomb. Tink thinking he could make it more efficient. Cue flooding. Multiple explosions and an argument between Arbite Guards v Maintenance Workers v Tech Priests about the meaning of "Off limits to ship personnel". After the mishap Tink knew to turn down the high pressure water and steam first. Nubby decided to help 'prioritize' the laundry. Since there was a back up. Which lead to cash. Led to gambling. Led to debt. And lead to Nubby getting shut down hard. So he starting going thru peoples uniforms for items. And charging the cash for their return. Or weaponry from the armory. He found the inspector badge and Inspector Clouseau was born. Oak and the Interrogator sent out a "Free Chaos Artifacts" to every heretic in the system. So the ship with all the nuts, traitors, etc. Getting destroyed was not dumb luck. Judge Dredd was fully done with the Interrogator at the end. Hence the team being in the laundry room. And as a favor to the party for getting rid of Bane and Angelica. Team uses the fact they helped ward off the demons during the warp storm to strong arm a couple Arbites into getting Doc access to the Med Bay to help Sarge. That is about it.

As I understand it, Twitch, and Twitch alone was occasionally fed bits of out-of-character knowledge on the condition that he only share this knowledge blended into his own fluffy paranoid delusions. "This character is a traitor" can only be shared by accusations that they're an Ork, for example. So, Twitch actually knows bits of what's going to happen before it does, cutting him out of narrative perspective.

Shit, I caught up... ehm, you planning to do "Shadowrun Storytime" perhaps ? It is somewhat similar in nature to this story, and in no way in hell I am goin to listen to that Text to Speech monotone voice. Anyway was awesome so far and I really loved you voicing this story, so thanks for that. Just a little bit of critique ( I guess you could call it that ?), I liked it more when it was in 15-40 minutes intervalls, that way when I felt asleep, I could always easily remember where I left. Maybe I am the only one that listend to it while in bed though so take that with a grain of salt. I guess I don't even need to ask for you voicing the Ciaphas Cain books considering you would probably get fucked by DMCA ?

They are the suicide squad. A bunch of rough necks for tasks that require more brute force and less of what might be considered traditional inquisition policy. Oak doesn't expect them to be a stealth team, a diplomatic team, or much else then what they are. Just wants them familiar with these other schools of thought so they can assist properly. But their purpose is to be the mailed fist of the inquisition when the going gets tough.
